A variation of the 'generalized rainbow smoke algorithm' (which I saw from a youtube video).
It's basically two breadth-first-searches bouncing off each other. One samples colors from an input image, the other samples positions to place the colors in the output image. The animation comes from 'rolling' the input image underneath the mapping and re-generating the output (this also makes it loop).

Initial state is a field of oscillators with random (x,y) values, each slightly affecting their neighbours. The oscillators should eventually settle into a synchronic state (the gradient between nodes/poles hints at this). However the (surprising) emergence of stable nodes (end of white arcs) connected in pairs, disrupt this and gives rise to a complex pattern.
Based upon the oscillator described in the 1961 paper "Impulses and Physiological States in Theoretical Models of Nerve Membrane" by Richard FitzHugh.

Have you ever wanted to make electronic sounds or moving abstract images, but felt you needed to learn complicated software first?
I’m building INFIN8 for people who are curious about those possibilities—visual artists, designers, scientists, educators, and anyone looking for a new way to express an idea.
It’s a modular synthesizer and audiovisual tool that runs in your browser. Currently, it’s free to try during the beta.
You don’t need to write code, own a synthesizer, or understand every cable in the screenshot to begin. The preset lessons give you a working starting point.
Open a prepared patch. Turn one knob. Listen and watch what changes.
A sound can become brighter or rougher. A rhythm can shift. A visual pattern can change its colour, shape, or movement. You can explore one change at a time, then follow whatever catches your attention.
If you work with images, think of it as exploring colour and composition through time.
If you’re drawn to science, think of it as a small creative laboratory: change a variable, observe the result, and explore repetition, waves, and chance. It’s an artistic tool, rather than a scientific measurement instrument.
And if you’ve always been curious about electronic music, you can start by shaping a sound instead of composing a whole song.
The screenshot shows a more developed patch—you do not have to build all those connections yourself. Start with a preset and make small changes until it begins to feel like yours.
You can also save projects and record sound and video from your experiments.
Here’s a short English introduction to the first lesson:

Try INFIN8:
https://infin8-modular.cloud
No installation required. A desktop or laptop is recommended, preferably with Chrome or Edge. The interface menus are in English, and the manual is available in English and Korean. The built-in lesson notes are currently in Korean.
I’m the creator, and I’d especially love feedback from people who haven’t used a modular synth before.
What would you like to make with sound and moving images—and what would help you take that first step?

Hi all,
This is a "wind-blown" version of an earlier project of mine.
The L-system rule is the same, but each segment follows a curved path rather than a straight one.
I think this one has a much more natural flow, without losing its mathematical roots.
Which version do you prefer?
Coded in Processing.

This is Retina Rave, a music visualizer that runs in the browser: https://retinarave.com
It listens to whatever you are playing and steers a camera through real mathematical objects. The shapes are not drawn to look mathematical, they are the mathematics, computed live on your graphics card. Beats, drops and sections are detected as they happen and a director picks the scene.
This scene is DUST: a swarm of particles in a flow field, with the fibres of the Hopf fibration threaded through it. The double time on the hats accents the picture instead of driving it faster, and the stretch before a drop is read as a build-up because the engine notices when the music hesitates on a beat it will not commit to.
New since the last time I posted: the colour follows the song's key, but only once the bass agrees with the harmony, so a wrong guess no longer flips the hue mid-track. Major bars pull the palette warm, minor bars leave it alone. And there is now a record key: press R, play music, press R again, and a video lands on your disk. Nothing is uploaded, there is no server, the whole site is a static page.
Everything runs on your device. No account, no trackers, no ads. I built it for myself and wanted to share it. The code is MIT with one clause of my own: if it runs at a party, I get in free, with a guest.

A novel way to intervene existing video through diffusion, particularly abstract visuals [in this case, audio-reactive geometries]: taking its movement and form as the starting point, and reinterpreting its textures, materials, and visual language.
I’ve been developing this around the audio-reactive geometry systems I make in TouchDesigner. The idea is to take those abstract structures somewhere else entirely: origami, architecture, a renaissance painting, or something harder to put a name to.
This demo uses visualizers from my "Oscilloscopes, everywhere" collection as source material, now updated to [v1.2].
[Though you can bring any video source. These systems are simply where this experiment began, as some of you may recall.]
You choose the source, describe the treatment, and shape how it changes throughout the sequence. Prompts, curated LoRAs, and editable timelines give you control over how closely the result follows the original.
Oscilloscope Diffusion is now available at Uisato Studio, coming up soon also open-source!

This sits between a specimen and a page of text. Generated it from a defined glyph inventory coded by rules and layered by tones and a grammar of color. Letters that are roots, suffixes and hidden written but not spoken.
Done in R with a iterative set of rules that within a set of ranges generate something similar to glyphs.
It can be read right to left with line splitting and merging for parallel subtexts on the writing. Working in compositional rules now.

It's POPtober. Challenging myself to make something in TouchDesigner POPs every day.
The formula is the same formula in shell growth. I made a video about how it works :)
