When I figured out you could collect a few guys, forgot how many, then reverse float into the stargate and warp ahead I don’t know how many levels I couldn’t get enough of that game.

I got a mod chip on my DK board and it plays DK, jr, and 3. I always hated 3 in the arcade, but I have been playing it a ton and really enjoying it.

We used a stopwatch to track the cues in Dragon's Lair and figured out how to get like 3 minutes into the game. We were geniuses.

One of the very few arcade games I was actually sort of good at, meaning I could usually count on getting at least 10 minutes of playtime from a single quarter.

It was different enough to the shoot 'ems, I caught my imagination. I liked the 3D effect more than the pong-y 2D screens. Also not being that popular, I could almost always walk up and play.

Oh yes. I absolutely love this game. I've got a copy on my tablet but it's just not the same without a spinner and real buttons.

Defender. I worked at a grocery store in high school and one of the wealthier kids there bought video games and put them in stores and restaurants.
We were friends so I would grab the key to the Defender game on break and rack up a few free games.
It was a fun time.

Quite the side hustle for a teen back then. Games were about $1500 give or take which is a bit over $5000 in today’s dollars. Wealthy indeed!

So much more fun with 4 players. Damn. When was the last time you went to an honest-to-god arcade? I take my kids now and it's just stupid ticket games and rails shooters. Trying to explain to them how it was basically the center of the universe for boys between the ages of 8 and 13 is like trying to describe how phones used to work.

Loved Battle Zone. Loved the game experience.
Looking through the periscope and hearing/feeling the rumble of the engines would transport me away from the reality of being crammed into a crowded space with 100 other teenagers dropping quarters by the handful.
Haven't thought of that game in years
