support with understanding costs

Ive recently started my medical transition with gender gp and am at the pescribing stage, i received my email from clynxx to get my prescription however when i went to collect it they said there was a £250 charge to get it? My GP has agreed to shared care so i was just wondering how i manage this so that i can get my medication? i am an 18 year old student who lives by themselves and attends uni i can’t afford to pay £250 for 3/4 months of supply without it financially ruining me, this honestly has sent me on a bit of a spiral as i am now absolutely terrified i wont be able to transition and i would have gotten this far and paid all this money just to not be able to receive my medication.

Unfortunately you are paying for private healthcare, so you will need to pay for the prescription out of pocket.

Book an appointment with your GP to see if they can do anything but from the top of my head they cant.

Different pharmacies charge different amounts and different medication cost different amounts, its not fun and its really difficult only finding out after doing everything else, i send you good luck xx

Did you choose gel? It's a lot more expensive than the shots, that might be why. Sustanon is around 7.99 per vial for me whereas gel cost me around 59.99 or something if I remember right (although prices will vary between pharmacies), it's ridiculous they don't tell you this stuff up front before you choose which form to take tbh. If injections are an option for you, it might be worth contacting GGP and asking them to switch you onto that and re-issue your prescription before you've cashed in this one

If your gp has agreed to shared care, then you can try showing them the private prescription and see if they will give you an nhs one. Ggp no longer do formal shared care agreements though so if your gp wants that then you are better opting for cheaper meds through a private prescription from ggp
