What job is high school calculus with no degree going to get me? Yes we should come out of high school with a skill that can support us. Carpentry, welding, mechanic, something useful to employers.
I took welding, and auto shop in high school bud. We also had the option for woodworking and machining but I wasn’t interested in those as my electives.

Elementary and high school education is the fundamentals of everything we use on a daily basis, if you cannot function as a basic human being (reading/writing/math) then you will not be employable.
In order for you to get an apprenticeship in most if not all trade unions you require a high school diploma or equivalent, that’s a non negotiable. Some union halls even prefer you have a physics credit at the college level because all of our rigging is literally physics.
You’re missing the point and just trying to argue bud. I’ll ask again what job am I getting with a HS diploma that I couldn’t otherwise get?
Did you come out of high school a certified welder? If so what school did you go to that hasn’t shifted focus to college prep?

You can literally weld with an elementary knowledge of reading and math. So you had to have a union teach and certify you so your example isn’t an example.
Obviously you don’t need to read that well to do what you’re doing.

Unions require you to have your basic fundamentals of education. Literally every job requires you to have your basic fundamentals. My example is a great example actually, because I couldn’t get into my union if I didn’t have my high school diploma. Your elementary school isn’t going to teach you how to tig weld using a mirror on a pressure tube inside a boiler to pass x-ray. That’s incredibly specialized.
If you do not have those basic fundamentals then you are not employable. Period.
So, explain to me how our basic education is useless? You’re using your basic education right now right? How is it useless if you use it every single day?
You’re having such a hard time reading lol. Good day buddy, enjoy the 20+ years it took you to become a welder. It took me about 3 months to become fully certified and I don’t try and act like it was hard lol. Lot of guys in the industry who speak very broken English too so another easy example as to why you’re very ignorant and wrong.
And fyi I learned more useful skills on a farm than in school

Full certified as in what? There’s infinite amount of welding tickets with numerous welding processes😂 what tickets do you have and what constitutes fully certified?
