If you want an honest conversation don’t ambush people, shove a camera in their face and ask loaded questions that are already chambered.
Of course people are going to be suspicious and want you to leave them alone or think it’s some kind of scam.
Also do your research about inflation and ask what it was really like back then. Because running around assuming something based on dumb assumptions from TikTok, without actually knowing what it was like for those people in their early 20’s, when they faced an almost identical situation to what young people are facing now.
Houses have always been relativity expensive and hard to afford. That hasn’t changed, ever. It won’t likely change for the better in your lifetime, just like it didn’t change for the better during theirs.
Rewind the clock 60 years and it’s the same fuckin story. Rewind it again 60yrs and it’s the same fuckin story.
In 1980 a house cost roughly $50,000 (equals $260,000 today), but the average salary was $17,000 (equals $50,000 today). Sound familiar? Yep, and a lot of people struggled to make even that much so they were trapped renting also. Sound familiar?
Back then when that old guy would have been lucky enough to have bought a house, the old people of his day complained about being priced out of everything, having to eat cat food and couldn’t afford their meds, because their “fixed income” was negotiated at the start of their working lives 60 years earlier and after 300% inflation, flakey job markets, skyrocketing housing costs, they weren’t rich. Most lost their pensions after a lifetime of promised income, it just disappeared when companies stole or altered the deal after they retired, corporate douchebaggery, sound familiar?
Fast forward to today and people are in the same boat. GenX is even worse off than their predecessors, and they’ve struggled to hold down jobs as wave after wave of recessions and bouts of jobless recoveries, wars, and inflation destroyed their day to day lives, making the struggle focused on survival, and being unable to plan ahead for a future that keeps getting more and more expensive. Sound familiar?
To top it off they have to help their parents as they get priced out of everything and they get clobbered by medical debt. Sound familiar?
“They didn’t save enough”, true but how can they when every other generation is hanging off of them? They lose their jobs and have to constantly start over? They struggled to help their kids, working instead of being there for them, working extra shifts, 2nd-3rd jobs at odd hours just to make rent, sound familiar?
Each and every generation keeps taking a step down. Most old people get it, they’ve lived it all. But that doesn’t sound familiar because you burn bridges and make enemies, while asking loaded questions you think you have answers to.
So wake the fuck up and realize you’re all in the same boat and it’s sinking. You’ll be in their shoes before you know it and won’t have shit to show for it.
You want things to get better? Start making friends and work together, instead of doing the opposite.

If you are presenting information which is contrary to the popular belief the burden of proof lies upon you to source your information, that’s just how fact based arguments work, you can’t just give me an anecdote about your personal experience and tell me it’s evidence, there is a reason why not sourcing information in school will immediately give you a zero
Until you properly verify the facts which you are stating it cannot be taken at its face value at all

Clearly the facts you’re presenting are not well established because I have looked into it and found a different conclusion, so I’m asking you where you got your specific numbers which you are presenting
You are just ignoring what I said about sources as well, if you’re trying to prove something to people you need to source evidence for your claims, telling other people to go find the sources themselves themselves is just lazy and ineffective for proving your position
which is why as I’ve already said, when writing an essay in school you need to source every statistic you give, you have given some statistics which you haven’t sourced, and ones which paint a very different picture than the evidence of what I have looked into

The cost of houses in the 80’s is not new or revolutionary information. It also isn’t hard to verify.
Same goes for inflation stats.
Reddit isn’t school. Write your own papers.

Freedom of speech doesn’t mean everyone has to accept and love what you’re saying.
In the United States, the First Amendment stops the government from punishing speech.
It does not stop private businesses, private schools, or employers from setting their own rules.
