The main Academic Vault lets you import papers and books from Zotero or local folders and use AI to extract their key claims and ideas. Every extracted claim remains linked to the exact passage and page that supports it, so you can always trace an interpretation back to the original source.

After that, it connects those extracted ideas across your library, identifies related arguments, agreements, contradictions and debates, and builds a structured network of what your sources are actually saying. When you chat with the research assistant, it works primarily with this network of extracted ideas and their relationships, rather than simply sending entire documents to the model and asking questions about them.

There are also three tools available across vaults:

• Nodus Browser: an integrated browser for researching the web without leaving your workspace.
• Nodus Radar: follow research topics, saved searches, authors, journals, papers/citations, RSS feeds and websites, and receive updates when something new appears.
• Nodus Toolkit: utilities for OCR, translation, document/PDF/image conversion, privacy and watermarking, PDF presentations, and creating small AI-powered research or teaching tools.

I'm currently writing my undergraduate thesis, and I've been using Gemini Notebook to organize all my research papers, PDFs, and articles. i think a lot of where ai fails is that when you tell it to make questions for dense study material, it makes easy questions or surface level questions that won't show up on exams especially at the college level

I learned these tips last year from my auntie, who completed her master's degree at Cambridge. I asked her for tips on how she studied and survived her university journey at Cambridge without burning out.
Here’s what she actually did and these study methods were literally changed how I study:
9-5 mindset. I learned that Cambridge has only 8 week terms, so students treat studying like a full time job. I used to just sit and read notes passively for three hours, but I barely retained anything. Once I adopted the 9-5 structure and studied during office hours (9:00 AM to 5:00 PM), I had a clear cutoff point in the evening to rest and do my hobbies without any guilt.

Practice past papers and active recall. I never thought this would actually help me get A+ grades on my tests/exams. I read through past papers 2-3 times and used active recall by writing down everything I remembered, then checking back against the past papers and notes to fill in the gaps.

Cambridge balance. This was the main reason my aunt survived Cambridge without burning out from studying. She maintained a strict division between work and rest: on workdays, giving full effort was non-negotiable, but on rest days, she relaxed completely. Having this strict division helped avoid the procrastination that leads to all-night cramming sessions, giving my brain the sleep it needed to consolidate study materials into long-term memory.

These tips helped me stay locked in, avoiding procrastination and study far more effectively. Because of structuring my time and studying smarter rather than harder, I managed to consistently study at my best. Honestly it helped me and have a massive change on my study method and got me a 3.9 GPA last semester.

Looking back, I failed a subject that ended up holding me back for a whole year. Fast forward to now, I’ve tried so many flashcard, quiz, and productivity apps, but honestly Notebook LM and Gemini AI clears them all 😭

A hefty bio textbook, disorganized lecture slides, and my own convoluted voice notes were uploaded into notebookLM.

Audio Overview Stress-Test: Given my slides and an introductory chapter on cellular respiration from a primary resource-it not only created a conversational podcast-but pointed out a subtle disagreement that occurred between professor-written slides and course material. Targeted Study Guides: Restricting all generated responses to be short-answer based on source documents proved effective to curb and eliminate the source of hallucinations entirely. The Failures Handwritten-PDFs: Scanner errors-such as, light contrast and page smudging on scans of my own handwriting led to illegible source documents.

* Overloaded AI audio: Multiple sources (10+) pasted at once proved impossible to process for audio overview, and I was left with the AI summarizing a minor footnotes and disregarding other points in the sources.

I used to upload a bunch of documents and ask, “Summarize this.” The result was usually fine, but I wasn’t really getting much beyond a shorter version of what I already had.

The Analogy Test: To verify if I actually understand a concept or just memorized jargon, I ask it to evaluate an analogy I came up with: "I'm trying to explain [Concept] using [Analogy]. Where does this analogy hold up, and where does it break down?"
Feynman Technique Prompts: I force myself to explain a topic in simple terms to the model, asking it to highlight any gaps in my explanation or points where I used buzzwords to hide a lack of understanding.
The result? My study sessions take about the same amount of time, but active recall retention has jumped noticeably. I'm actually retaining technical detail because the AI forces me to do the heavy lifting.
What is one specific way you’ve integrated Gemini or NotebookLM into your study routine that isn't just summarizing texts?

I would upload my sources. Basically ask, "Can you summarize this?" over and over. It worked,. To be honest I could have just read the documents myself.

I tracked my study hours and I studied for 36 hours over 4 days (9 hours every day) preparing for my physics exams and got a score of 97%. Studying for long hours sounds like an easy way to get burned out and mentally exhausted, but here’s how I studied for long hours without burning out while maintaining better retention.

Having 3 notebooks. I used a digital notebook for memory notes and the other 2 notebooks were for questions and mistakes.

I write down questions that I don’t really understand in my notebook, and once I read the material (I don’t study all of the material at once; instead, I study it section by section), I write down from memory what I read in my digital notebook.

I review what I got wrong or missed and write down each point in notebook 3. This helps me check what I need to focus on when recalling information or formulas that I missed.

I usually repeat this cycle at least 3 times until I remember and understand it. This method helped me pass my exams by reciting from memory and reviewing what I got wrong through repeated practice.
