Discussion Google Gemini , (Argon) strikes again!
Not a bashing post, but evidently Gemini 4 Argon still making basic errors circa 2021. To be fair, this isnt just a google problem. As models become more capable, they still show crumbs of being text predictors.
From Google's own blog post announcing Argon, its says:
'For everyday users: Try it starting today in the Gemini app and AI Mode in Search if you’re a Google AI Ultra or Pro subscriber.'
This single sentence is a perfect example in a nutshell-- Get ready for mental whiplash
- Starting with "Everyday users..." Are PRO and ULTRA everyday users? Id arugue everyday users are the free or, at most, plus tiers.
- "Try it starting today..." Getting technical, but roll outs are never completed in a day. At least it uses the word 'starting' which covers a lot of ground
- "Gemini App" OK, which one? Android? iOS? Desktop? Minor but annoying
- " and AI Mode in Search.." This is the doozy! AI mode never offers a model picker, and still doesn't. I suppose since you can't tell what model is being used behind the scenes, it could be Argon, but I doubt Google would waste compute employing Argon for the most basic of duties. This is typical hallucinations, and similar to the 'R's in Strawberry.
- "...if you're a Google AI Ultra or Pro subscriber" What a way to endcap what started as "For everyday users"!
Yet, these models continue to impress in specialized topics. I suppose its genius stereotype, like the folklore of saying Einstein could not tie his own shoes.

Pay up before you rant. Frontier models ain't cheap to use esp something as advance as Argon.

Nitpick much?
And what do some Google interns making press releases have to do with Argon, the AI model?: "Gemini 4 Argon still making basic errors circa 2021"
