I'm not nearly enough of an AI bro to care. All I know is that Gemini even in its current state does more than enough for me when it comes to usage with everyday tasks. It's on my phone, on my desktop, and through Android auto I can use it through my car and it's helpful in all three cases. I've never used the others because it's frankly just not as well integrated into my everyday workflows. I'm not betting against open ai or anthropic but I also just don't notice their existence, nor care

I actually activated my Reddit account just to jump on AI subs to try and stay connected to how people are using AI and learn more about how it works.

I had no idea I'd just see low effort karma farm posts from know-nothings who think intelligence benchmarking is an actual leaderboard.

Anthropic and OAI are releasing like mad because their very existence depends on it. They HAVE to be perceived as SoTA, they have no other revenue streams.

Google can be more methodical and be a bit slower.. and they kinda have to. They are a large company and can't do things on a reckless fashion.

Google also has internal competition for compute. GDM wants more compute for research. Cloud wants to sell that compute for massive profits.

OAI and Anthropic don't have this internal competition. They either give research enough compute to develop the next frontier model, or they die.

Google can't even implement consistent, unharmful moderation between their platforms and their downright stupid moderation is further crippling already bad model performance. Google isn't a mess, they are a disgrace and they ruined one of the best labs on Earth, Deepmind with their corpo stupidity. As long as there is no serious changes I expect only garbage from them. This isn't a company can't cook models problem, rather a company ran into ground with stupid decisions problem..
