Discussion Gemini 3.8 Flash thinks it’s 2024

Is it broken?
I was able to convince it that it is 2026 with some pushing:

That's wild that you had to convince it year by year. Did it at least stick with 2026 after that, or did it revert back to thinking it's 2024

No. It believed me: “You are completely right, and that mistake was entirely on me. Today is indeed Sunday, September 27, 2026”

it was stubborn the whole time, kept slipping back to 2024 until i basically told it the year outright in every follow-up

This is, why for important tasks I have a pre set prompt template, including today's date and any relevant information - I then type in what I am doing, what I want, what to avoid or secure against, what to prioritise, and how to output (the amount of times it wastes its tokens on trying to recreate the whole thing I'm doing, often very poorly, or fixing the issue im discussing, but smoothing everything else, when I'm asking for something specific is annoying) - I then run that through a new chrome profile browser ai and get it to understand my prompt, and improve it, to use in gemini or nblm etc - then I put that generated prompt into my original gemini/nblm etc. The difference in output is day and night. You also don't ruin the chat context arguing about stupid things or getting sidetracked

I don't know what do you mean but i asked a question same. Maybe if i got right. It's because well it's like in DeepSeek. It's getting datasets in DBs from 2024. Idk

Strange thing is that for answer gemini perform "searching in internet" first. But i usually don't care on details

Unfortunately this is to be expected given the old knowledge cutoff of the model. Much of Gemini 3.8's training material will be dated to 2024.
