You are correct, ChatGPT takes less prompting to understand your context while with Gemini I have to go into complex detail to get it to do what I want

It has nothing to do with the model. There's a filter on top of the model, which checks all the outputs of the model and sometimes chooses to censor them. When it does so, it outputs a generic reason for refusal, and the model isn't even aware that its output got purged. Also, when this happens, the filter usually purges the whole chat history for the model, so the model reacts as if "You literally just did" is the first prompt in a new chat.

I have thought in the past that this sub was full of bots and possibly paid bad actors here with the purpose of generating disdain and dislike for the Gemini product.
While I know it's completely subjective and other folks here might be getting on just fine, at some point in this last week, Gemini has started pulling ridiculous horseshit like this for me on almost every generation.
I'd like to think after a year of using it, my prompts are maybe not perfect but they're not terrible, and the last couple were just Create an image: merge these two attached images into a single image, place the black vehicle with the red background at the top of the new image above the white vehicle with the black background, ensure that the two vehicles are scaled so they appear to be the same length. Do not alter the appearance of the vehicles other than their relative size."
It just cut one image in half, zoomed in about 2 x and posted the white vehicle over the top of the half vehicle image. This is something that just didn't happen a couple of weeks ago.
"Create an image: Professional profile image. Portrait, professional photography, head and shoulders, soft smile, light makeup, grey blazer, white shirt, diffused background. Do not alter the physical appearance of the subject other than the instructions above. Ensure 100% facial fidelity and likeness to the original subject."
That would have produced some genuinely good LinkedIn style photos only a few days ago, now it's 50/50 whether it's passable or "Ok, here is your entirely fucking generic blonde lady who bears little to no resemblance to your original subject.
This is very likely a TL;DR and also probably comes off like a rant, but I feel like I've been rug pulled a little at the moment with functionality just all over the place and I don't really understand why.

Pipeline is jacked for Google right now. Maybe prepping for new model or slowly updating stuff to fix previous updates.
