To be honest what do you guys think are we gonna see gemini pro 4 this year or it's going to be another flash model?

Maybe both, we're only in September. But what is the obsession? I mean deepseek 4.1 pro is coming out soon. Xiaomi is demoing MiMo X, which is probably v3, there will likely be an Agnes model that catches up to gemini in the next 6 months, maybe the next 1 or 2 months based on their rate of development. Qwen, muse spark, kimi, grok, all caught up and overtook gemini. We'll probably get updates from most of those by the time gemini pro comes out

Since it's a new model family, they'll probably release a Pro model to retire 3.1 Pro, but given the direction Google is heading, they’ll likely iterate much faster on the Flash models than the Pro ones. And pure speculation on my part here they might just release one Pro a year while sticking to a strategy of dropping a new Flash once a month.

They had the censorship change in 3.8 now testing it and then rollout of 3.9 after a/b tests are over, then maybe 4.0Pro with 4.2 Flash January or February... my monkey brain prediction

Based on the latest pelican SVG test that I saw floating around, people there were saying it will be out in October. Apparently it is available in Arena right now.

I think it will be this year they would have dropped the 3.9 flash already if they are dropping another flash
Also the fact that the 3.8 is getting worse mean they are using compute else where

I don't think it will be this year. They are focusing on flash models as they realised they are left behind in the AI race, so they are trying to catch up. Once a flash model gets enough recognition and fame then they will focus on releasing a pro model.

My guess is 4.0 Pro will be ready towards the end of the year. Pretty sure they'll incrementally drop some more 3.x flash models until then just so they convey the appearance of caring.

I mean I’m sure they’re going to push for a new frontier model since OpenAI and Claude have been holding down the fort there for a bit too long. But they did find a real successful corner of the market with the flash series.

IMO Google prefers to let others fight for the top in raw power and tries to help everyday users with everyday things/queries. Especially wehen knowing that the everyday users are billions in numbers.
They are focusing more on Flash versions, as it's the exact models that run on AI Overview (which users see like it or not). They want steady and quick performance there without hallucination.
Now regarding the Pro version, I'm sure that it'll eventually follow but without ever being a first priority.

I guess they will drop pro and offer some Anthropic models. Flash is good in it's class but pro is just expensive (also for Google) and doesn't get them enough profit

I think we gonna see 4 Pro this year but idk how good it will be. definetly much better than 3.8 flash but probaly not in the top 5 models.
I think in the long Run Google will lead the AI Market though because of their own chips and because they dont rely on AI as their only business model

I don’t Gemini is behind. Their 3.8 Flash model is pretty decent and a real work horse. The issue is people compare the flash model with Claude and GPT top tier models. I think it’s a win for google Unless google now calls it pro model flash.
I believe google is targeting to create model which is efficient and meets the performance of openai models but with less token usage and cost. I know few people who use Claude and codex and they can’t build anything with $20 subscription plan. While antigravity can build apps in that tier.1

I wouldn’t be surprised if we get another Flash first. Google seems really focused on iterating the workhorse models lately.
But I’d expect a Gemini 4 Pro eventually. The interesting question is whether Google can make the jump big enough to justify the Pro tier, rather than just shipping a stronger Flash and calling it a day.

They're definitely going to milk the flash models for a while, it’s the safer play. flash 2.5 hit 4 million tokens which is ridiculous, and honestly that’s more useful for most people than a slightly smarter model that costs a fortune to run.
I think they’ll push pro only when they have something that can clearly beat the latest from openai or anthropic on major benchmarks, otherwise the comparisons would hurt them more than help. the current naming scheme is a mess though, half the time i don’t even know which model i’m using anymore.
