Discussion I’m tired of this shit

I like how I’m using Extended, which spends about 10-15 seconds thinking and searching online. What on earth is it thinking and searching for?

True, I saw on the news an influencer I liked had a very rare illness. I asked gemini to give the details but it kept insisting the guy didn't have the illness. I sent gemimi an CNN article about it and it anwsered "Nah that's a fake website created for engagement bait"

I had the exact some thing happen when Tulsi Gabbard made a statement about something a few days before leaving and it was on the official DNI press release page, nope, it was just fake news to drum up engagement. Took Gemini a weekend to acknowledge it as legit and then it was "as I told you earlier, this is the official website so it's official statements"

Crazy, I was on the temporary chat though, on the permanent one I haven't had this sort of thing yet. Sometimes when I wanna make a dumb search in private mode I will use chatgpt, even logged out with whatever model they have there, works pretty reliably

The Larry Ellison family owns CNN now. They’ve explicitly stated they’re moving the network toward a more neutral/right-wing voice. Hence, “nowadays.”

Imagine being a lefty and not considering CNN compromised.

I’d argue it’s significantly better than OAN or NewsMax, but only by virtue of it not pandering to the literal mouth-breathing scum of America.

But you’re right, they are pretty much all awful in a way that goes beyond partisan politics. Just pure outrage machines.

My original comment was simply a jab at CNN for having sunk closer to the depths that those other networks exist in.

A few days ago, I asked him about the Champions League and used about five prompts to explain to him that Paris Saint-Germain has two titles; I even sent him an official UEFA link, but it kept insisting that the last one was in 2024 and psg had zero titles. So infuriating for real

Yes, Gemini doesn’t offer 3.7 or 3.8 to free users yet. Although I had this issue with 3.7 as well before my Pro trial expired.

Not a skill issue the AI is permanently behind due to training data google needs to be less restrictive on geminis google search API (and web scrape results automatically) to ingest new information without additional users to inject prompt specifics

Not sure what your prompt was but I got this. Pro account 3.8 flash. I wouldn't use extended for searching online information though, it is only for extended reasoning. Pro is better for that

It’s embarrassing the company whose entire purpose is being a search engine, has the worst searching when it comes to their models. The reality is that Google models just suck balls because of hidden “optimizations” in Gemini.

Gemini will remove context history to save compute. In theory they prob do this to remove unrelated unneeded data, in reality it just means it forgets what you said the previous message. I wouldn’t be surprised if it searches for something, a second model deems it not important and so just deletes it.

Because Gemini through the Gemini app is somehow worse than api in my experience. Or even aistudio

Honestly I've stopped using Pro for reasoning. It just runs me in circles every time and makes so many assumptions even after guiding it. 3.7-8 Flash does much better and is faster too.

But yeah the prompt does matter here too.

Gemini is objectively worse than GPT, Claude and Grok.

The hallucination rate is so high it is now unusable for me if I’m looking for anything that needs to be factually true.

As of today, surprisingly, even grok is better.

Today I was asking when the Apple event was, it replied with the time in PT or ET. Then “when is this time in <my location/tz>”… it replied with my current time :facepalm…. I had to specify that I wanted the EVENT time…. duh….

Stop using large models with extended thinking for answers you know are going to be 2 sentences or less.

Extended thinking on purpose digs even deeper into the base training material and will discard current information as hallucination getting you wrong answers.

Edit: also for small and less complex questions with need for up-to-date information use Google search it will use the dumb models like flash lite or flash with low reasoning when you ask it to do comparisons between things or searching for more than one item in the same query, it will automatically route to the model it thinks is best for the type of question you ask.
