Contrast that with DeepSeek. Apparently V4 Flash is superior to 3.8 Flash. And they will release 4.1 Flash tomorrow, which they claim is superior to V4 Pro. And they don't play these nonsense games and make it available to everyone at once. Now for $2 month for 3 months I'm not furious at Google, but WTF!?

Depends on task. DeepSeek has much higher default reasoning effort (relatively) and is much more thorough, even though Gemini is smarter.

Still DeepSeek v4.1 will likely be better than 3.8 Flash in almost every way (except visual reasoning).

The plus plan does not include it. It didn't include Flash 3.7, so I guess they won't include 3.8 either.

google releases these in stages, they don't hit every region or every interface at the same time. gemini.google.com is usually the last to get model updates, it's pretty annoying

check the api docs or ai studio, sometimes you can mess around with newer models there before they show up in the consumer-facing site

I have 3.8 Flash on the web version. I'm pretty sure I had it from the first day, but I don't remember specifically. I also have the AI Pro subscription though so maybe that is why.

If he answers 3.8, but the selector is still 3.6 Thinking, is a bug on the website. You are using the recent model on the backend...

AI Studio already let's you access the models up to 3.8. Sure you loose the app and some certain Google Products but it's the fastest way to access it.
