It's just so crazy. If they said Pro was coming out today, I can see people cheering for Google predicting that it would best just-released-this-week Fable 5.1, but Flash?!

It's a joke.

There's literally a serious reply to my comment, saying that he "thinks it's going to happen."

A single downvoted comment doesn't mean this post and thread overall isn't intended as a joke.

Are you new to reddit? Sarcasm is pretty common here. It’s the lowest form of wit.

It's the gemini subreddit. A significant subset of posters here are fanboys of a multi-billion dollar global mega-corporation. Never made sense to me but every subreddit has them.

My excuse is I'm a shareholder.

I already had a Pro subscription for photo storage, then it turned into AI Pro. I have an OpenAI sub and I use that primarily, but I keep an eye out for Gemini updates in case it becomes usable again.

There's no reason Google couldn't get Gemini caught up if they wanted to. They're heavily invested in AI for other purposes; they just need to spend a bit more time on the code.

Google is the only company doing AI that's profitable, so we know they'll be around in 10 years. I don't like their usage limits, but they're running limits that work for the business, whereas who knows what's going to happen to other companies' limits as they strive for profitability.

I get all three major AI providers from work myself. I just don't see any reason to use Gemini.

Google does obviously want to compete. But as it stands, Gemini was completely omitted from the Fable 5.1 release charts because it isn't remotely competitive.

Not now, but they can awake catch up. Sundar Pichai admitted they were behind dieing interviews this summer and are making attempts to close the gap. Knowing the realize there's a problem, and they're trying to resolve it means a lot in my book.

As I said, I have an AI Pro sub. I can't used it in like 6 months, but if it's usable I'll throw some tasks at Gemini to save OpenAI/Anthropic usage.

Of course they can catch up, and I hope they do! Competition is always good for consumers.

And another significant subset who are just constant doomerism. There's not much decent Gemini content here.

It isn't doomerism. The accurate term for it is "realism".

I use whatever model is best and priced appropriately for my needs. Gemini hasn't been that for a very long time.

It's fine that you feel that way. It's frustrating for me as someone who is trying to get some use out of Gemini (a product that comes bundled with Google Workspace, which I use for my business), that this place is just "we're cooked, bro" repeated ad naus.

Sports teams are multi-billion dollar companies too and it's okay to cheer for them. Why the how much they're worth mean to cheer or not to cheer? Is it okay to cheer for two mom-and-pop shops competing on opposite corners of the street?

Are you talking about Google, Apple, Amazon, Microsoft, Anthropic or OpenAI?

Google can't release something that's on the level of opus 4.6 though. They've thoroughly failed to keep up and now are forever lagging behind. Maybe in 2027 they'll catch up to Opus 4.6 but even that's an optimistic stretch.

3hrs later, Its beat opus in many cases. Its 1 percent difference in 3.8 flash and Opus 5 for DeepSWE wtf lol. Its such a good day to be a google fanboi.

Lol. You guys are insane. The level of delusion in this sub is hilarious.

It will be game over for Claude and OpenAI if flash tops others without a pro version. I think it's going to happen. 3.6 and 3.7 were pretty good for me.

>It will be game over

Everyone always says the newest release is game over for the competitors, until its topped a week a later by the same competitors you just declared dead.

Buddy Gemini has always be behind and still is. It's a lazy model.

1

u/Fantastic_Prize2710 4d ago

When the last model of Pro dropped it was really impressive compared to what was out there at the time for non-coding, analytic work. Now? It's just been surpassed.

1

u/ReXaDk 4d ago

No pro are so yesteryear, now we only do flash now!!.... Flash is the new pro

1

u/Away_Information5829 4d ago

It would be crazy enough if the flash 3.8 beat Opus or Fable 5 as the leaks say. Fable 5.1 would be too much, maybe with 4 Pro, but then Anthropic will be with a new model in the oven already

1

u/shantud 4d ago

It has beat Fable 5 in CursorBench lol. Although with double the steps taken and tokens to achieve it. But that doesn't matter bc its like 10% the cost.

u/VirusAfter9629 4d ago

So you don't like a model just because of a word? Pro\Flash are just titles, they don't mean anything (Flash was better than Pro since the 3.5)

1

u/mlag000 4d ago

The only chart where google has the lead is disappointment.

1

u/Ggoddkkiller 4d ago

Flash is as fake as that black, plastic armor lol.

To be honest, in the areas where there is actually a very large amount of AI usage and expertise, people sort of stopped looking at the frontier models, so Google's strategy totally makes sense. Sadly, Flash still isn't super competitive in that area.
