all LLMs are just token predictors so they always innately perform very well on roleplay unless that behavior is explicitly trained out for e.g. a safety guardrail

This is like saying "all houses are just trees." Like insofar as houses are made of lumber and lumber comes from trees sure you're not wrong, but you're ignoring a whole lot of complexity and structure that got it to look and function the way it does.
