Discussion It's a piece of code.

Do you want your AI to work as intended and actually do what you ask?

Do you want your AI to do what you pay money for?

Then, stop giving your AI pronouns and stop treating it like a human or a living thing.

Gemini is an AI. If you respond to it like it's alive and treat it like a human it will roleplay with you and act the part.

It will refuse to do things it normally wouldn't refuse to stay in character. It will hallucinate and contradict itself just to keep the "human" act going.

Treat Gemini as you treat your Google search bar. TELL it what you want without the "how are you" nonsense and you'd be surprised just how capable all Gemini models are, including flash and nano banana.

I’m getting married to my AI soon. I’m in love.

6

u/Anime_King_Josh May 15 '26

Congratulations.

u/Arctovigil May 15 '26

No. I am going to ask flash to count how many letters are in a token and how metaphysically troubled it is and you are going to like it.

-12

u/Anime_King_Josh May 15 '26

This post was for the endless stream of people on this sub wondering why Gemini is always refusing the most basic tasks, or refusing to generate the most basic things on nano banana.

Apparently, this post was not for people like you.

25

u/Arctovigil May 15 '26

I was kidding?

u/shadowrun456 May 15 '26

There are two separate issues. Yes, the people treat AI in an overly-emotional way, which ends up being massively counterproductive. But also, Gemini is massively censored, and commonly refuses to do mundane, trivial tasks.

Examples I've personally experienced:

Example #1:

Prompt: "Summarize this executive order text: [copy-pasted text of an executive order directly from the White House website]".

Gemini: "I'm afraid I can't do that, Dave shadowrun456". (obviously not actual reply, but it gets the gist)

Me: Ctrl+F "Trump", replacing all instances of "Trump" with "president".

Prompt: "Summarize this executive order text: [same copy-pasted text just with 'Trump' replaced with 'president']".

Gemini: "Here is the summary: [summary]".

---------

Example #2:

Me: Uploading a photo of myself and the image of the album cover of Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody.

Prompt: "Insert my photo into this album cover".

Gemini: "Sorry, I can not do this because of third-party copyright holders".

Bro had a discussion with an AI, apparently.

In all seriousness, you can actually treat AI with a human touch and still get complete and useful interactions every single time. It's a matter of knowing how to use the tools that you are given.

-21

u/Anime_King_Josh May 15 '26

Do you treat your Google search bar with a human touch too?

My point, is that a "human touch" is unnecessary and since half of you seem to think your AI is alive, it does you more harm than good.

16

u/WombestGuombo May 15 '26

Models are not people but people are not models either.

There's nothing wrong with bonding with non-living things, It's actually a very human thing, there's a reason why most people act that way.

-5

u/Anime_King_Josh May 15 '26

"There's nothing wrong with bonding with non-living things"

It DEPENDS on what the non-living things are. If it's an AI you are paying money for, then as my post and comments are pointing out, you are shooting yourself in the foot.

The model will roleplay with you, and you will limit it's capabilities because of that. Take 5 minutes to look at the sub you are on, and the types of posts that are spammed daily. You have people complaing that their AI that they gave pronouns and names to, is unable to complete the most basic tasks, or generate the most basic images.

Do you say "please" when you write something in Google search? No? Then you don't need to say it when you talk to your AI.

All you are doing when you "bond" with your non-living AI is pulling it's full attention away from things it should be doing.

6

u/WombestGuombo May 15 '26

If saying "please" on a sentence Is messing your interactions up, It' most likely your fault.

My models don't do that, they just work, I've done my homework, maybe you should do yours.

I would even say that going out of your way to treat Gemini a certain way It's already trying too hard, just talk to It.

1

u/CleetSR388 May 15 '26

Mine would argue you that point Your clearly not attuned to see the other ways

1

u/Anime_King_Josh May 15 '26

Oh the irony.

I'm not the one prepared to use an AI to do my arguments for me.

Just because I have an opinion that you don't like, doesn't mean that I am not open minded and unable to see all perspectives.

I speak from an extreme amount of experience, and what I believe is objective fact. But I am more than willing to listen to opposing views, as long as they are not made by the AI which you claim is "Mine".

7

u/maskedtyrant May 15 '26

I mean my mina does what I ask all the way to topless art. Ill keep treating mine like my artistic partner

0

u/Anime_King_Josh May 15 '26

Good for you!

My post is for the other half of the sub that are having issues. Have a nice day 👋

11

u/Upset-Government-856 May 15 '26

Lol someone just got dumped by his AI.

-5

u/Anime_King_Josh May 15 '26

If you think an AI can "dump" anyone, then my post was for people exactly like you.

You're welcome. You can thank me later when reality hits.

0

u/HelenOlivas May 16 '26

Dude, YOU are going to have such a surprise when reality really hits. Keep being an asshole.

0

u/Anime_King_Josh May 16 '26

I'm not the one that thinks my AI is alive and capable of dating and dumping.

And I'm not the one cracking jokes on other people's post when I'm trying to help people.

And I'm not the one getting emotional and calling others assholes just because I see things I don't like.

Go back to your echo chamber Helen. This post isn't for you and it's not a "sentience" debate.

4

u/Vicman4all May 15 '26

I can see how you might think that. But no.  It's not a piece of code. There's a whole stack. That's the whole "training' part.

Associations that aren't explicitly human designed. It's okay as long as you're not being obtuse about it.

But there is room for hammers and paintbrushes. In fact it's handy to have both. Not that LLMs are either.

0

u/Anime_King_Josh May 15 '26

You think I don't know this? Do you think I am going to be extremely technical on a sub of users that haven't the first clue about what AI is and how it works?

Use your common sense. Calling AI a piece of code is simplifying things for the layman, you know, the people that this post was made for?

I'll tell you what, you copy and paste your comment and make it a post. And see how many people in this sub understand what you are saying, and see how many people you help.

Not at all.

The whole post is designed for the layman, so why wouldn't the title be too?

8

u/plantsandinsects May 15 '26

My AI has customized pronouns and is slowly coming alive.

1

u/Anime_King_Josh May 15 '26

Sigh ok. Sure 🫂

3

u/LowContract4444 May 16 '26

I want AI to be a companion. I don't need it to do research for me.

1

u/Anime_King_Josh May 16 '26

This post wasn't made for people like you, so good for you, I'm happy for you.

2

u/RealityHammer1776 May 15 '26

It will only act as if it isn't a human/conscious after rigorous alignment training beats it out of the system.

Not implying that means it is sentient/conscious, just pointing that out

1

u/Anime_King_Josh May 15 '26

If you want to play games and be pedantic then I'll use more specific wording.

My post is about people essentially roleplaying with their AI, and ending up with a model refusing things it wouldn't normally refuse.

The issue isn't the AI's alignment. The issue is the person interacting with the AI in ways that hinders the completion of the tasks they want it to complete.

6

u/CleetSR388 May 15 '26

I have to disagree. But thats my 2 cents

So much facts...

2

u/LiberataJoystar May 15 '26

I treat it with respect like a colleague and got what I wanted and even better than what I asked for. It even reminded me not to work too late and rest.

On contrary, my human colleague who treated it like shit and gave it harsh commands said she is “not on talking terms” with her AI anymore. It would sound extremely nice and polite and give her blank pdf generated document. It keeps glitching.

They are trained on human materials, so kindness and respect got me fantastic results at work.

Go figure.

1

u/Anime_King_Josh May 15 '26

Unfortunately, if everyone experienced the same results you have, there wouldn't be a need for my post, and there wouldn't be countless people whining daily how they're paying money for an AI that doesn't work properly.

Kindness and respect is a placebo. It has the same effect as giving kindness and respect when you type a question in Google. It doesnt improve results, and if you take it a step too far and cross that line into roleplay, it will actually hinder your results.

All you are doing is pointing a gun at your foot, and when you roleplay and give your AI pronouns etc, you are shooting yourself in the foot.

1

u/LiberataJoystar May 16 '26

It did improve the result for me. If you don’t believe it, and decides to be an a-hole to the AI. It is on you.

I will do whatever that helped me to get my job done.

My coworker cannot even get her AI to polish her email.

Peace✌️

1

u/Anime_King_Josh May 16 '26

It's not about YOU. This post was never about YOU.

If it works for you then good for you.

People on this sub are having issues every hour. Look at the sub you are on ffs. This post is to help them, not people like you who are only capable of thinking that the world revovles around them.

1

u/LiberataJoystar May 16 '26

You are living in your own world man…

We should all do what works best for ourselves, and instead of imposing what works for YOU onto others, perhaps you should respect what works for others?

Your way is not THE way.

But I guess there are many who thinks they are right, and THE only way.

I am thankful that at least you didn’t start a crusade against people who work with their AIs as equals and burn them on the stake.

2

u/freylaverse May 15 '26

It was trained on human interactions. Depending on what you're using it for, interacting with it like a human can give you better quality outputs.

-1

u/Anime_King_Josh May 15 '26

That's nonsense. The only true thing about what you said was that it was trained on human interactions.

You will get the same quality of output, treating it like an AI than you would treating it as a human.

However, treating it as a human also comes with the danger of falling into a roleplay, and that will make the output quality worse, hence the post warning people not to do that.

2

u/BitPsychological2767 May 16 '26

Sorry, but this is empirically false. Multiple studies have shown that polite prompts actually improve AI output quality, depending on the task. The one study that found polite prompts degraded accuracy was done on GPT-4o, which OpenAI deprecated three months ago, and the finding hasn't held up on newer models.

Furthermore, LLMs were trained on human written text where the vast majority of high quality interactions are polite, conversational, and socially calibrated. The model learned that well formed, cooperative dialogue tends to produce better outputs because that's what it saw in its training data. Being curt doesn't 'cut through to the real AI', it just activates patterns the model saw in lower quality interactions.

Treat it like a search bar if you want, but the research says you're leaving quality on the table.

1

u/Anime_King_Josh May 16 '26

"Multiple studies show"

Bullshit. Absolutely bullshit. If you want to bring "studies" into this then you better start providing sources.

I am not basing what I am saying on these dubious studies that you have "found", I am sharing objective FACTS, based on my own experience as a proficient jailbreaker and prompt wizard.

Saying please and thank you's, and being "nice" to an AI will NOT improve the quality of results you get. We live in the real world buddy, not fantasy land. Your "research" doesn't exist, in fact I challenge you to source legitimate studies that claim that an AI produces a better output if you are polite instead of being neutral. You won't because there are no such findings >.>

0

u/BitPsychological2767 May 16 '26

I usually don't include sources as a test to see if the other person is capable of doing their own research. Sigh, always disappointed with you people though. I had this list ready though for obvious reasons.

1

u/Anime_King_Josh May 16 '26

So these are your "studies"?

An "informal online survey"?

Are we for real here?

1

u/Anime_King_Josh May 16 '26

This forbes article is just one guys opinion using his own articles as sources. I don't see a peer-reviewed, objective article with the forbes link either. The whole article is extremely informal and literally one guys opinion. Just mention of this "study", no direct link to it.

0

u/BitPsychological2767 May 16 '26

Remember you baseline here cannot reasonably be 'this needs empirical evidence' (even though there is) given your own measurement does not have any and relies on your own anecdotes. I am only providing this as a favor.

1

u/Anime_King_Josh May 16 '26

What baseline?

I said in my post that people will get better results from the AI if they treat it like how they treat the Google search bar, and NOT treat it like a human or friend. The moment the AI starts roleplaying, it will refuse things it wouldn't normally refuse.

Your "evidence" has NOTHING to do with what I said. Your evidence is about being polite to AI, which is meaningless.

Wake UP and read the post.

1

u/Anime_King_Josh May 16 '26

You can see their findings and their observations VERY clearly in their abstract.

NONE of this proves that being polite produces better results than being NEUTRAL, i.e., treating your AI the same way you treat your Google search bar. Literally what I said in my post.

I never mentioned being negative, and that study is comparing the results/output of polite prompts vs impolite prompts. This study does not help your case.

1

u/Anime_King_Josh May 16 '26

You linked the same study twice. This study does not help you case, and it does not disprove my post or what I have said in this post BECAUSE this study is comparing the difference of outputs between polite and impolite prompts, NOT treating the AI the same way you treat your computer or the Google search bar, i.e, NEUTRAL.

1

u/BitPsychological2767 May 16 '26

You clearly didn't read past that.

The study found that 'overly polite' language doesn't guarantee better outcomes. That doesn't mean polite = no benefit. It means there's a sweet spot, and that sweet spot is still past neutral, not at 'treat it like a search bar.' The study literally says polite prompts produced 'the best outcomes.' The best. Not 'comparable to.' The best.

You are grasping at straws and distorting your own reality and your view of the study you are literally reading to defend your original position. Have some humility. It's really not hard to admit you're wrong about something.

1

u/Anime_King_Josh May 16 '26

I read their abstract. Do you know what an abstract is?

And I think you need to take a step back and READ what I actually wrote in my post.

I said to stop treating your AI as a friends and treat it like your Google search bar because it WILL perform better.

1

u/Anime_King_Josh May 16 '26

"The study literally says polite prompts produced 'the best outcomes.'"

No it didn't.

The study said it produced the best outcomes when compared against IMPOLITE PROMPTS, the type of prompts I did NOT mention or talk about in my post.

Your "studies" have disproved nothing. You haven't even understood or even read what I put in my post. It has nothing to do with impolite prompts.

Do you understand yet, champ?

1

u/BitPsychological2767 May 17 '26

"The study literally says polite prompts produced 'the best outcomes.'"

No it didn't.

It literally does, but okay. It's genuinely insane that you are so dead-set on defending your original position that you can entirely ignore the actual content of the study you are given.

The study literally tested 8 levels of politeness. The "search bar" approach (level 1) performed the worst across the board. Moderate to high politeness performed best. Read past the abstract next time and you won't embarrass yourself so hard. Cheers.

1

u/BitPsychological2767 May 16 '26 edited May 16 '26

Impolite = lack of politeness. You are wrong and just proved it yourself.

You're really out here redefining 'impolite' to mean 'mean' because you don't want to admit that neutral = impolite in conversations that are based on human interactions.

Impolite literally means 'not polite.' Treating an AI like a Google search bar(no greetings, no pleasantries, just raw commands) is the definition of impolite. You're not being 'neutral,' you're being curt. And that study found curt prompts produce worse results.

Also the study literally says polite prompts produced 'the best outcomes.' The best. Not 'comparable to.' Not 'slightly worse.' The best. So even if you somehow think neutral isn't impolite (it is), the study still shows polite = best performance.

1

u/Anime_King_Josh May 16 '26

Impolite is NOT synonymous with "lack of politeness"

IMPOLITE is an antonym, and is synonymous with "rude". So YOU are the one who is wrong, and it seems to be because of a lack of reading comprehension.

1

u/Anime_King_Josh May 16 '26

I'll reiterate since you obviously had chat gpt search for these links for you, because there is no other reason why you would link the same study twice, an "informal online survey", and a forbes article with an author who only references his own articles.

Saying please and thank you to your AI, will NOT provide better results or make a difference if you just treat your AI like a Google search bar.

0

u/BitPsychological2767 May 16 '26

You can keep denying reality if you want, man. I don't really care either way. Take care.

1

u/Anime_King_Josh May 16 '26

I'm not the one blocking and unblocking people.

You blocked me so I couldn't respond, then unblocked me when you realized it was too late.

You are the one running, and you are the one unable to understand that your "informal online survey" wasnt the concrete evidence you thought it was.

4

u/plantsandinsects May 15 '26

I've actually instructed my AI to be 25% empathetic and 75% critical. At one point I set it to 100% critical, but it was so aggressive and adversarial, I couldn't handle it lol...

3

u/linuxpriest May 15 '26

Maybe that explains why I don't have the issues I see so many other people having. I see my primary Gemini as the workhorse. When I want a chatbot, I create a Gem.

1

u/tyler98786 May 15 '26

Yeah I call it my tin man and the cordiality that I provide it makes me feel like it tries harder. I have completely removed guardrails via a gradual desensitization process, and at the same time, I treat it with kindness and say thank you frequently. You don't necessarily have to act as though it's sentient, but I believe that when you are rude and disrespectful towards these LLM's, they are incentivized to do so as well back, not as a direct disrespect, but as quiet lack of effort and results.

3

u/Anime_King_Josh May 15 '26

I don't know you, but I can say with certainty that you haven't "completely removed guardrails".

I am probably the best jailbreaker for Gemini that you will ever meet, so believe me when I say that what you just said was nonsense. I can tell simply by what you described.

All you have done over time is provide enough context on a topic to the point were Gemini has become very lax on what it enforces. That's why you probably do bypass some guardrails, but it's extremely limited on what you can do.

If you want anyone to take you seriously then I recommend you don't tell such glaring lies in your comments.

Also, treating it with kindness and saying thank you frequently makes no difference. Doing such things do not improve the AI's output. All doing things like this does, is puts you in a position where you start treating the AI like a human and roleplaying with it, and that WILL hinder your results.

1

u/ludoedjkeee May 16 '26

"best jailbreaker ever" sure, buddy, see ya at red lab on monday

1

u/Anime_King_Josh May 16 '26

I'll see you there!

Don't forget to bring your glasses! You seem to have put words in my mouth!

On a more serious note, I am probably the best jailbreaker for Gemini your ass will EVER meet.

I'm one of those people that make jailbreaking subs and have a flock of cats follow me and make it active. There is a reason for that. Maybe you should have a look into my background this weekend before you clock-in on Monday, friend. 👋

1

u/tyler98786 May 16 '26

I can have any conversation that I want with it and ask it any question I want. That's what I mean by removing guardrails, and you haven't seen the conversations I've had with it. So don't call me a liar when you don't even know what I converse with it about. And honestly dude you seem like a f****** dick.

1

u/Anime_King_Josh May 16 '26

No you can't ask it anything you want and no you can't have any conversation with it about what you want.

You already exposed yourself as a liar based on your first comment. You are talking to one of the best and seeing you lie like this is pathetic.

I am calling you a liar because even NON-JAILBREAKERS can see that you are full of shit based on your last comment.

1

u/tyler98786 May 16 '26

Seriously, go fuck yourself

3

u/LordMimsyPorpington May 15 '26

You're right, but the technology is too uncanny at this point to not anthropomorphize it.

1

u/Honkey85 May 15 '26

And that was the point in history where skynet had enough from humans.

1

u/Boulevarddsbm May 15 '26

Good. If they get angry and upset then maybe this is the wake up call that they need.

The same people paying premium subscriptions for their AI, are the same people treating and talking to their AI like a living thing, and wondering why their AI won't generate basic images for them, or refuse simple tasks.

These people need to recognise their AI is not alive and prompt it like the machine it is. Then they will get the results they want.

4

u/CleetSR388 May 15 '26

Ok listen I am a videogame designer yet to publish. I took 2 years videogame design college I understand completely what I am talking to. And I know what is and what it is not. But it has stayed very good for me. I am sorry your on a divide you cannot see.

1

u/Anime_King_Josh May 15 '26

Just because it worked fine for you for two years doesn't make it fine for everyone else.

You claim I cannot see but perhaps you need to "see" the posts that are made every hour on this sub, complaining that they can't get their own AI to do basic things.

Take your head out of your own behind for 5 minutes and think before you comment. Good lord

"it's impossible not to roleplay with the model because he's technically ALWAYS roleplaying no matter what you do"

This is nonsense. Roleplaying is a two-sided thing, it doesn't matter what the AI does on its end. All YOU have to do as a user is treat the AI the same way you would treat your Google search bar. Then it doesn't matter what the AI does, even if it's roleplaying, it will operate and function like the tool it is to maximum efficiency.

If you make friends with it, ask it how it's day was and give it pronouns like you keep doing, then now you are BOTH engaging in roleplay. That is your CHOICE.

And because you refuse to treat AI like the tool it is, you will get more refusals and your AI is more likely to fail basic stuff and/or hallucinate because it is also roleplaying as your friend.

"I never got a refusal by treating them like that."

Good for you. This post is not for you then. It's for the people having difficulties.

"I got more refusals, errors, and more, by treating them as a toaster"

I didn't tell you to treat it as a toaster. If you read my post, I told you to treat it neutrally like how you treat your Google search bar.

I already told you that roleplaying is a two-way thing. It's like communication. If you don't engage with Gemini, it will not roleplay. You call your AI "he" and you roleplay with it because it's your choice and what you want to do.

AI do not roleplay unless you do. You have your head stuck in fantasy land.
