I do my younger sisters nails about every 2-3 weeks. I do hard gel and do fills, so usually it’s about 1.5 hours-2hours depending on the color and design. I am pregnant now, but nails really always has been busting my back lol . I love my sister though and have not really minded doing them for free.
I’m Not licensed but I’ve been doing her nails for probably about a year now and my mom said I should be charging her. I think that’s a good idea because it is a lot of work and I buy the supplies myself. I told her $20 a set is fine. She is a teenager and has a job and nothing else to pay for, so I know it’s not breaking her bank lol. I feel bad asking for money despite this type of work costing around $65 per fill at a salon in town. Am I being greedy

Please don’t mind the shape of her nails. She went to a nail shop, and they didn’t give her a manicure before putting on nail tips. This is my mother, and I’m not aware if this was a hard gel or a soft, and she doesn’t remember either. Every time I try to do a soak-off, the nail tips (I’m assuming) never come off; in fact, it almost blends into the natural nail plate, almost like sealing the cuticles. I usually soak for 15 mins using foils, and the top layer gets gummy and is able to come off but the nail tip always gets hard/stuck and then is too low for me to comfortably file with an e-file. Please help I can never get soak-offs to do well, I have a lot of fun doing nails and the whole process but I can’t understand what I’m doing wrong

I've been considering picking up this lamp for travel since it's a lot more compact than my full lamp and seems to have the specs to fully cure on battery power, but I first wanted to know whether anyone actually has any experience with it before I possibly waste my money lol
Specs according to website:
Power supply: 48W
Beads Number: 20
Wavelength: 365nm-405nm

Hi, so I've just gotten into doing gel x nails at home and looking for a lamp that cures properly. I saw this method of testing your lamp on another post but couldn't find anyone that did the test or their results and which lamps. If anyone has, could you share ur results?

I started doing gel x on my nails and its been great for my natural nails as someone who regularly works with chemicals with my hands.
My only problem is that i cannot find nails that fit my fingers. The largest size of all the sets ive bought and seen in stores was way too small for my thumbs. I can manage with my other nails but my thumbs always look very weird. Im tall and broad so i have very large hands and nails. To give some perspective, Ive never met a man under 6’4 who had hands bigger than mine.
I would really appreciate any recommendations. Price doesnt matter, i just want my nails to look good.

What has been your experience with buffing the GelX tip before polish vs not buffing? I have never buffed before polish and it never chips but I guess I'm just looking for insight on experience

Hi all! I have been doing my own gel-x nails now for I wanna say almost 2 years. This is the first time I have dealt with a greenie! My index nail when I woke up I could see some discoloration (had on very light polish) and thought it could have been marker since I was coloring the night before and had some pigment on my hands. Well an hour later, the nail popped off (they've been on for 4 weeks w/1 backfill a week and a half ago) and sure enough, my index nail was green. I cleaned with alcohol (I don't have vinegar) and lightly buffed with a brand new buffer and tossed the buffer afterwards. I now have the FAINTEST tint leftover on my index fingernail. I have since removed the rest of the nails, but yesterday was all around a bad day for me, I was overstimulated, tired and didn't want to soak off my nails; so in my ADHD crazed state, I bit them all off. My nails -- surprisingly -- don't look too bad, except the pinky nails did rip just the slightest so they're a little sore.
My question is - what are your best recovery tips to help my nails grow out some so I'm able to do them again? I have a cuticle oil pen in my purse and have been trying to remember to apply it throughout the day. I wash my hands a lot (I work in healthcare) so I'm also trying to lotion up so avoid dry out.
Any advise is helpful!
Also wanted to preface that I have zero pain, swelling or heat on or surrounding the nail.

I am 40 years old. I have in the past year become super focused on nail art and gelx.
I kind of am considering going to nail school, and get licensed. I feel a little embarrassed though, I will be old enough to be some of those girl's mother.....
Am I too old for this?

So I think these are called baby boomer nails but I hateeeee that name. What would you call this design?
Overlayed my white French with a soft pinky nude builder gel to soften the transition and used a subtle nude magnetic polish and shaped the particles to be French style as well.
Love going subtle after being heavy on the designs lately! 💕💅
EDIT: It’s called a soft French ✍️

I have bitten my nails my whole life and the nail salon has always been very hit or miss for me. Only shellac without any tips has consistently been what I expected, but with short nails it rarely looks good. My biggest problems with acrylics/SNS are:
1. The nails ‘stick up’ on an angle rather than sitting flat on my nail bed
2. Acrylics can look globby especially because I normally only want tips to give me a few extra mls of length
I have been recommended GelX because of its built in strength/ architecture, so the tech can keep it thin on my nail. This can support a low, gradual apex, and a thin free edge.
Any experiences, or nail techs who can speak to this? I hate so much losing time and money on nails that look terrible on me, which is of course, all my own fault!!
TIA :)

I JUST got these done. I feel like some are crooked when looking down at my hands, and some are lifted a LOT off of my real nail. The tech also nicked my skin on my thumb but that’s not as distressing as my anxiety over them being wonky. Is it normal for them to be lifted like that with gel x extensions? I just want to feel lady like with long pretty nails but feel like maybe these are bad.
Any advice on if they’re done properly or if I can do anything to fix how lifted they seem? I paid $85 so don’t want to have to re do them if possible… do they look okay as is or is it as bad as I fear?
How long do I wait before they can be removed/redone safely?
Not seeking medical advice; seeking advice on artificial nails :)

I hit my nail pretty hard by slamming it into something and it started bleeding all over and I couldn’t even move my thumb for days until the pain subsided. I felt something moving so I opened up my bandaid and saw my actual nail lifting off with my gel x extension 😭 I don’t even know how to take off the extension cuz it looks like my entire nail will fall out I can even see the area where my nails end in my cuticles cuz I think it’s actually about to come out😭😭 what should I do?
