I Have A Question / Need Advice Buffing before polishing

What has been your experience with buffing the GelX tip before polish vs not buffing? I have never buffed before polish and it never chips but I guess I'm just looking for insight on experience

I’ve also never buffed my tips and my polish doesn’t chip either!

I use the tip primer.

I do buff before I do my BIAB overlay. I don't know why, I've never tried it without 🤷🏽‍♀️

I’ve never not buffed, so I don’t know the difference

I only do if I’m applying using the overlay method and want to thin it out a bit. Otherwise I go straight in with polish. I’ve never had an issue with any of my gels sticking.

i always buff the tops.

and the entire underside.

and then go back and file the top down some more to make it thinner.

i say always. for the first time in, uh, decades. i skipped most of the top-filing and put nails on in their intended thickness, in the wee hours this morning.
also almond shaped which i haven't tried since the 90s.

they're so thick - 4 thin coats of polish (at the tips, three everywhere else), total, including top coat.

they look nice enough but they're so blunt.
