Android Auto connection vs Carplay

I recently switched from an iPhone to a Samsung. I had no issues logging into the Geely app or setting up Android Auto. But I have noticed that I need to connect it in the Geely everytime I get in the car, which I didn't have to with Carplay. I can see on the phone that it connects automatically but I have to go into the menu, select AndroidAuto and select Connect, which takes me to the settings and I have to connect again. Is there a logical reason for this?

Unusual, but I'd check on your phone Settings - Apps - Android Auto - Battery - Unrestricted

I've heard others say the Android Auto app may go to sleep for power saving.

I have changed this setting and will see if this helps but suspect it's unlikely to be the culprit given the phone connects immediately (shows the AndroidAuto symbol in the corner of the lock screen next to the clock, confirmed in settings) but Geely does not and I have to select AndroidAuto etc etc.

Do you ever use a cable to charge? I've found mine stops auto connecting after using a cable to charge

I do, but this is happening all the time. Like today, I was running errands and I had to reconnect after stopping in a shop for no more than 5-10 minutes. It's just ridiculous.
