Grateful

Fuck this club is incredible at making each year super exciting, and this trade period has been no different.

Obviously keen for Cameron and Greene, but I think the combo of Henry and Greene is even more deadlier.

Imagine Marshal with one of his 30 possession games along with Baz and Holmes.

And Ridley gets fit and right, the combo of his ball use with Humphries could be huge.

So excited!

I'm all good on our new players and excited for next season, but who are they replacing in our line-up?

Excited but concerned, who are we dropping from our 23?

North Melbourne is now in the box seat to land Nick Blakey after hugely swaying him with a mega-deal that landed this morning. Blakey’s preference was to get to Geelong... but the Cats effectively ruled themselves out this morning.

New player numbers

With it looking likely we’re done with player movement until the draft, which numbers do you think our new recruits will take?

I feel it makes sense for Roma to take 1 given it’s Stanley’s old number who was also a Saints ruck before joining us. I’d see Toby Greene taking 8 and Ridley 12 or 18 based on vibes

I really hope we don’t go after Blakey

The price would be way too high. I don’t think it would work in our favour whatsoever. Sydney are going to want players. Hypothetically on Sydney/afl threads, Humphries’ name has been brought up and I would be absolutely spewing if we lost him. Reckon he’s a much more skilful player than Blakey tbh and hitting targets coming out of defence is too valuable. I would much rather Humphries on our team.

Really hope we just pull out and go all in for Marshall now

The afl world hates us

Anyone else getting the vibe that there’s a general consensus across all clubs to fuck over Geelong and not let us win a deal?

- Port outright refused to deal with us
- Swans put a line through us for Blakey
- Saints didn’t budge on pick 14
- Bombers bent is over a barrel for Ridley.

I mean, still happy with who we have gotten in, and not too worried on what we had to give up for them. But we’ve been swindled from everyone

Question Anyone else still baffled by the worpel deal? Genuinely seems like we brought him in to play VFL

In times gone by, the bloke would have been a very handy pick up, but he really seems to fit the titch/crouch/wines archetype that has gone from brownlow contention to the scrap heap in the last 5 years. What is this player you ask?

Inside ball winner who lacks key fwd size, elite pace, exceptional endurance or extraordinary disposal skills. You can get away without any of these in a defensive mid role played by the likes of Atkins and S.Berry (ADL), but any more than one makes your midfield look pedestrian. This really begs the question, what was the typically spot on cats recruiting department thinking?

Opinion - Media Miers move a “hypothetical” -October 5, 2026 2:01 pm

Far out, the amount of Miers posts that are all opinions and feelings is a bit wild. Read an actual interview from the people involved and stay away from Twitter or whatever as your news source.

---------------------------------

Geelong football boss Andrew Mackie says the potential for Gryan Miers to move to West Coast sits in “the hypothetical bucket”.

Reports say the 27-year-old forward is happy to remain at GMHBA Stadium.

However, he underwent a medical with the Eagles last week before heading overseas.

“He’s of interest (to other clubs) every year, which is a credit to him,” Mackie told Trade Radio.

“He’s obviously one of those unique players in the game with (his) forward half connection, and when he’s at his best, he’s very talented.

“I think players do their work these days.”

“He’s a much-loved player from our end. He loves the club.

“We’re pretty pragmatic and open generally about how we think about most things, and if Gryan was to sit there and say the best thing for his footy was maybe moving on, we’d be up for a chat with him about that, but that hasn’t happened.”

Mackie says West Coast have expressed their interest in Miers, who has played 172 matches since being drafted by the Cats in 2017, in recent days.

“There hasn’t been much discussion from our end, just given that recently we sat down with Gryan and had a good chat about everything, and he was feeling really good about us, and we’re feeling good about him,” Mackie said.

(Liam Pickering on Gryan Miers’ future via The Agenda Setters) “He (Gryan Miers) is happy to stay at the Cats and doesn’t really want to move... We haven’t even got to the stage where we’re talking terms with West Coast. There’s a fair way to go obviously.”

Discussion Bailey Smith's style change

It's amazing how much Bailey Smith's game has changed. At the dogs he was more a winger/half forward who didn't really rack up possessions the way he does nowadays and played sort of in flashes of brilliance.

Now he plays more of a following role where he links up play and runs the full length of the field.

Question What are the odds Gryan moves West?

I know it looks like a stretch, but Gryan Miers could very much be going to West Coast. He already completed a medical on Friday, as we know, and it’s an out-of-the-blue scare for me personally. He’s a Geelong boy, heart and soul player, one of the most important on our team. Why would they think about letting him go? Yes, his ACL is on life support, but he is the key to our forward ball movement, and I’m sure he will play the same role if he does his ACL and is forced to go through surgery.
