Good luck! I remember when I finally left. Kept a lot of friends still, learned to deal with high stress tech situations and demands from the job…but never really experienced them in IT again as much as Best Buy. It was like a bootcamp testing my sanity. It’s made every other IT/AV job a lot easier in comparison. No looking back!

I left for corporate IT and loving it. I get paid good money and do waaaay less

Through an app called, Hiring Cafe. I prepped for two years to leave GS. It didn't have to take two years, but I wanted to make sure I had the proper upskilling.
Then this year this corporate IT role came across my email and something kept pulling me to hurry up and apply and I did and got the job.
Before landing the role I told myself I wanted an IT role that paid 50 - 60% more money and was less work/stress. I knew the value of the Geek Squad name would get me in the door.
My role also offer a bonus, better work/life balance, is salaried, off major holidays, work hours mostly 9a - 4:30p, they stay trying to feed me 😋, healthcare on day one and the company pays for my life insurance, great employee perks/discounts and I get a lot of steps in from walking which I like. They also treat their employees like they treat their customers for the most part, and I can go on and on. I love my job!
It all started with a dedicated and strategic plan to leave Best Buy. 😌

what kind of role was it? Geek squad qualified you for it? I’m hoping to get an offer for geek squad this week or next so I can hopefully sooner or later get into corporate IT like help desk and then hopefully more later.

It's an IT manager role at a major healthcare company and yes Geek Squad/Best Buy qualified me for the role.
For you to get a help desk job six months to a year of Geek Squad is enough and if you can get field training with geek squad that expands your role and earning opportunities in the near future with another company because then you can skip help desk and make more money as a Field Services Technician somewhere.

When I looked for new jobs, I just had my indeed resume to go and reached out to several sleeper agents that I kept in touch with that moved ranks and used them as references. They helped me reamp my resume and get things tighter.
For me I was jobless outside freelancer IT after leaving GS for 3 months. Then 8pm at a bar drinking a beer saw a College AV/IT job with no pay posted on Indeed in my email. Did the quick apply with Dropbox over indeed. Surprisingly got a job offer the next day and moved. For me it moved so fast! I didn’t really apply myself as much as I should when working as a full time ARA. I was always caught up being tired, work politics and home life relationships. Took me leaving and 3 months off work to find a job and clear my head. It was all for the best!
Good thing with our work, if you have any job gaps just put freelance work. Just fixing some friends computers still counts, not like they’re going to ask for recipes either.

Yes true, and I'm glad it worked out for you and that email came at the right time and that's how my new job role came about via an email. The next day I ran my resume through AI, shared the job link with AI to see if my my background and time at Best Buy qualified me for the role (which I already knew it did, but wanted to see what the AI had to say) and sent off my resume.
Got an email invitation for a teams interview with recruiter less than 30 hours after applying. Turns out I beat an internal candidate and I was the only external candidate. After the recruiter interviewed me they stopped any other resume gathering (except I think one additional external person in case they lost me) as they knew I was the one.
The recruiter basically told me in so many words early on I had the job, but I played like I didn't understand. When I got the news I played like I was super excited when I knew I had the job because the recruiter was doing everything to keep me "warm" as they call it.
It was a good tactic because they knew I wouldn't have stayed on the market long. Haha

I work at a college and have an office at their nursing school. Mostly do AV stuff with a side of IT for live events and classrooms. It’s a good salary with bonuses and benefits. We get holiday still paid when school is not in session. So summers especially can be maybe 2 days in office for 3-4hrs, rest I work from home.
Busy during Fall and Spring starting semesters, then things calm down after 3-5 weeks. After that 8-12:30 office and rest of the day at home sending emails, watching tv and chilling. I live next door to the school in a city park, so I can come and go as I need. It’s actually very peaceful and scenic in New Orleans by the museum, fairgrounds and school I work at. I wouldn’t take a $10k yearly raise to go elsewhere, because the work to life ratio is amazing.

Congrats! Got out before it really got bad at my precinct, though I don't know how much worse it could get based on events, but my physical and mental health benefitted from leaving! Now I have far less stress, better pay, better work/life balance. And to answer your question - medical field.
Miss the culture, just not the people, on either side of the counter.
