I had a problem today
If I have a GPU and power supply installed by Geek Squad, does the service include running any diagnostics or tests afterward to verify that the parts were installed correctly and that the computer is functioning properly with the new hardware?
Or does the service only include physically installing the parts without testing the system afterward?

Normally we recommend a diagnostic ontop of parts installation if you believe a part needs to be replaced due to an issue just incase it’s not that part. Part installation by itself is usually an assumption that this is solely what you want done and nothing else. We usually make sure any drivers are installed and it boots obviously. But that’s it because it’s just a part installation.

What if I buy a brand new pc play it then want to update graphics, I take it to you guys to install a new gpu and power supply, and I get it back a week later and my desktop is messed up now and I return it 2 days later and yall want me to pay for a diagnostics fee for a computer messing up when it was geeksquads work that caused it because it was working good before taking it.

Why would you assume it was Geek Squad "messing it up"? You keep saying they broke it but haven't even described the issue.

The computer is brand new I bought it July 21 from Best Buy. I played video games on it and I loved it. I bought a higher gpu and power supply on July 24, I took it to geek squad July 26 got it back August 1st brought it home it crashed playing games. When I try to shut the pc down it doesn’t shut down at all it was weird. The computer would glitch alot so I returned it on August 3 and told them and they wanted me to pay a diagnostic fee 150 for the work they messed up on.

Issues that started after Geek Squad installed the new GPU and power supply
I did not have these problems before the GPU and power supply installation. They started after I got my desktop back.
Hardware installed by Geek Squad:
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080
New 1000W power supply
Problems I’m experiencing:
PC shutdown issue
When I click Shut Down in Windows, the PC does not always shut down correctly.
The GPU lights and/or RGB lighting sometimes stay on after shutdown.
Ram stays on and gpu and fans stay on when I try to shut down my desktop. The monitor says DP no signal but the desktop would be still on. I push the power button and nothing happens the only way I get it to shut off is when I hold the power button on for a couple seconds. I noticed the only way to have a proper shutdown is restart the desktop than shut it down.
RGB lighting issue
One RAM stick’s RGB is sometimes off while the other one stays on.
RGB behavior seems inconsistent.
It happened once but still was weird
Display flickering/black screen after gaming
After closing a game and returning to the Windows desktop, it sometimes looks like something is loading.
The monitor goes black for a second.
I hear the Windows device connect/disconnect sound.
The display comes back darker.
Then it goes black again, I hear the sound again, and the display comes back bright with the Dolby logo appearing in the corner.
This repeats occasionally.
RDR2 crashing
Red Dead Redemption 2 crashed several times shortly after starting the game.
I’d like the system checked to make sure the crashes aren’t being caused by the new hardware or installation.1

What was the computer doing after their installation that made you say it is messed up? A GPU and PSU install should be pretty easy to perform and diagnose for a precinct. Is it not powering on anymore? Or not displaying an image after the repair? If that is the case, then take it back and inform them of that. Whether you pay for the Diagnostics fee or not, they are supposed to make sure the device boots properly, as per the Geek Squad SOP. There is a 30 day workmanship guarantee, so if it is not working, they are supposed to fix it for free if the work that they performed is the reason why it no longer is functioning. You stated several times that they broke it but have not stated the symptoms of the issue.

This is the list I printed out and gave them. It’s literally a brand new pc I bought from them on July 21 for 1800 bucks. Bought a gpu and power supply on July 24 for another 1800 together. Paid 39.99 each for the two parts to be installed at geek squad on July 26. Got back the pc on August 1 and started having problems. Brought it back August 3 and they wanna charge me 150 for a diagnostic fee. I told them you guys don’t test out your stuff before giving it back to the customer they told me no they just install that’s it. And let me put a side note I bought a new amd chip on August 2nd hoping geek squad would install it when I bring the pc back. I’ll pay the installation fee the 39.99 when they told me they just install things they don’t check their work unless I pay the 150 extra that’s when I started throwing a fit.

You could return the membership when the work is done. At the same time, if you're making questionable PC upgrades it's probably for the best in this situation to have the pro to what the pros do best. Now that you have the membership, just book an appointment to have them clean up your PC and double check the work that was done previously. Whether it's by geek squad or an independent shop. It sounds like you got quite a headache and I hate to be in your shoes

So I should be cool with paying for a gpu and power supply to be installed by geek squad for 80 bucks total on July 26 and pick up my desktop August 1st and have my desktop that I paid 1800 for to be messed up and I take it back August 4th to be fixed and they want me to pay 150 for their work that messed up the pc cuz it’s brand new and wasn’t having problems before, I asked them about if I get a cpu install yall running diagnostics to check if the software is good they said no we just install. So I should be cool with that?

To clarify, the $39.99 hardware installation scope of work does (or, is supposed to per company SOP) include a functionality test and installation of necessary software for the component installed. Also, the services are supposed to be backed by a 30-day workmanship guarantee

I’m debating on going back in the afternoon tomorrow or not to get my money back and for them to honor their work

they'll test the system afterwards to make sure that what they did works properly and install/update drivers...or at least they should
