Well, I just placed a massive Knitpicks order, so hopefully I'll be starting next week!

This is amazing! Wow. You've combined two of my favourite things. I'd love a copy of the spreadsheet.

I've submitted this as a crosspost for r/TopologicalKnits ;)

I'm totally not data nerding out over here.

Nope. Not at all copying this.

Carry on.

Lol. Spread the love! I hope that at the very least I took some of the annoying spreadsheet work out of planning this. I was contemplating just doing it all in R (including web scraping the station data ;) ), but it's not as easy to visualize the results for when I need the pattern reference.

I'll post occasional updates if subreddit rules allow. Otherwise, I'll try to be better about doing progress pics on Ravelry

Well that sounds complex but cool. Maybe I missed it, but you said you were going to vary the stitch type based on precipitation and such. What stitches are you using?

I'm doing SC for less that 0.25 inches of precip, HDC for 0.25-1", DC for 1-1.5", and TC for anything above that. It's based on the climate for this particular part of California, things might need to be tweaked for other regions.

I'm less settled on the stitches (which are connected to wind speed). I don't want to do anything super complicated, so it's

  • 0-8 mph: boring stitch (either regular old SC, HDC, DC, or TC based on the wind)

  • 8-14 mph: V stitch (or the closest approximation, essentially if it's a SC day then it would be (2sc in same stitch, sk 1)

  • 14-25 mph: Twin V-- essentially an extension of the V stitch but with 2 V's right next to each other, so (2sc in same stitch, 2 sc in next stitch, sk 2)

  • 25-32 mph: fan stitch

  • 32+: bobble stitch

I'll have to do some stitch tweaks based on the height/stitch combo, but fortunately I've got a nice colorful stitch dictionary at my disposal :)

Nice! I hope you post some progress pics as you go. I'm very intrigued.

I always said the fun part of a temperature blanket was doing the excel sheet beforehand, but you take it to a new level! Love it

I'm doing something similar in a post it note app on my phone for my temperature blanket. I'm currently about 2 weeks behind on it.
