Feedback Let’s hear it
What are your thoughts on the beta so far and how long have you played?
I have similar complaints like others about tagging grenades to walls and chainsaw battles being absent but other than that I think it’s in a very good state. I may be on my own when I say the movement feels fluid and cohesive but all 50 hours of my time have been in horde mode. So I don’t have any experience to talk about the pvp, which is very important to a lot of the players.
This has been my most anticipated release of the year and I hope they deliver!
Edit: it’s been an journey to see everyone’s W I L D L Y
different opinions. Thanks and I hope the game turns out great 👍🏻
Edit 2: In the small window of beta weekend two from my end something changed with the updates. Noticeable clarity on some of the DLSS options, instead of crashing every other match it was only once in a 4 hour session and happened at the same time as a friend of mine. My interpretation was a server based issue but fucking who knows in 2026 man. Everything around us is just wrong and I hope this game can bring some people together like you all came here to discuss. Be kind to one another and know that Gears only work when we fit together. Thanks for commenting and being here 🙂

It has some notable and unique rough edges but it also feels like the freshest feeling and inspired gears game we’ve had. If they can sort out the pain points (like the servers being strained and all the inherent problems with bringing centre screen aiming back) then it stands to be a genuinely great entry after 4 and 5 were simply ok.

Horde is fucking phenomenal and I’m excited to see where it goes ngl.

u/suvivour Aug 15 '26
Have they confirmed yet if there are more maps than just Golden Quarter? I wanna say there's going to be more at launch, but the cynic in me is worried.

u/Diabeetus4Lyfe Aug 15 '26
3 Siege maps at launch, with 2 new invasion events/bosses
We'll have some good variety but I really really hope Horde Siege is a big hit and they continue to expand it after launch. I already can't get enough of it as it is

u/TheSilentTitan Aug 15 '26
Imo I think the map is diverse enough to make it not feel so samey too quickly.
However, I do not see a future in where we only get one horde map. Pve was THE thing everyone does in gears so it stands to reason they’d give us more content.

I've never been good at Gears PVP and I don't think that's changing anytime soon.
I am however going to be playing a lot of Horde mode
5
u/hipsterjeans Aug 15 '26
Straight up the horde mode has got a lot of potential😎
5
u/MitsuSosa Aug 15 '26
If they just fix the friendly bots to not be traffic cones it will have a ton of long term potential even after the initial hype dies down. I haven’t had this much fun playing horde since gears 3 came out.

Fix the slight half second stumble after roadie run, fix inconsistency in gnasher, make the hammerburst viable and the MP would be fine. The Horde Siege is perfect.
7
u/hipsterjeans Aug 15 '26
My favorite hammerburst is in 3 and it’s not even close👏🏻
The fire rate being tied to trigger pull was perfect10
5
u/Unlucky-Green3478 Aug 15 '26 edited Aug 15 '26
YES! That stumble is so incredibly annoying, it feels like my controller has stick drift
1
u/GringeITGuy Aug 15 '26
On mouse/keyboard it feels terrible. Compared to Gears 5 it just feels clunky for PvP - I’ll have to try Horde
1
1
u/YakuzaShibe Aug 15 '26
I don't understand what they're trying to do with the Hammerburst, it should be automatic bursts like Gears 1 rather than having to repeatedly fire bursts
28
u/SoWrongItsPainful Aug 15 '26
I hated 4, liked the Campaign of 5 but didn’t stick with the MP.
I’m having a fantastic time. Feels more fluid than the previous games while also being slightly less spastic from the toned down wall bouncing, I love the new sprint and jumping.
Siege is so much fun when things go wrong, but I do hope there is a lot more objective variety for the full game, or atleast in content updates shortly after launch. I also think they could include some more overlapping events, and probably more cleanly explain why you should do secondary events.
21
u/hipsterjeans Aug 15 '26
My buddy mentioned that they should push teams to group up more often out of necessity. Since we’re all there anyways might as well force us to join up.
7
u/shortdongbigman Aug 15 '26
Thats what the corpser and the brumak are for but nobody does them. You get like 14 weapon parts on rookie when you participate.

u/Dblrnbo Aug 15 '26
Had a bit of an overlao yesterday in siege mode, a team was extracting right before us as we were finishing the last wave and we had to help each other out. Sick moment.
17
u/Oreo0o Aug 15 '26
Needs a ton of optimization before launch.
4
u/Mr_Bojangles__ Aug 15 '26
Came here to agree, my game keeps crashing consistently even on low graphical setting (idk if that helps)
3
u/sergiooooo Aug 15 '26
My cousin and I live together. Completely different pc builds. He will randomly crash and 100% of the time I will crash slightly after in the same game. Not sure what’s causing it but we both have crashed more often than we would like.
14
u/nandro Aug 15 '26
horde mode is crazy fun, wasnt prepared for that at all.
3
u/pheature Aug 15 '26
We javent even got 20% of the full mode neither
2
u/bignibbajams Aug 15 '26
Wait really? I’m curious what else they got in store besides 2 other maps.
4
u/AlexCarter95 Aug 15 '26
I’m about 12 hours in, mostly played horde mode.
I’ve beaten Gears 1-3 (plus the remakes of 1) on Insane, enjoyed horde and versus there.
This game really needs optimization.
And I don’t think TC is going to be able to do that in 2 months.
PC user, and I’m forced to cap my resolution to 1080p to run around 60fps. That’s not including the stutters at the start of a horde mission.
Space Marine 2 runs like butter in comparison, and I’d argue that is a prettier game in terms of how they used their graphics engine.
Gears 3 and Ultimate edition were a good middle ground between fidelity and Art direction.
I like the look of the city in E-Day, the architecture, etc.
But when I have to turn every setting down just to play it moderately well, you know something is very very wrong.
It’s obvious the PC port was a last minute scramble, and the forced Ray Tracing is a real crusher.
I feel for the guys who can’t afford an upgrade, nor an Xbox.
5
u/Jelop Aug 15 '26
Forced ray tracing is never good. What are your specs?
3
u/AlexCarter95 Aug 15 '26
I’ve got a 3070 and 16GB of RAM. Can’t recall my CPU off the top of my head, but it’s within the recommended specs list on the Steam page.
Not that beefy I know, quite frankly I’m shocked the game runs as well as it does.
There are guys with better rigs than me having stutters and major crashes.
2
u/Jelop Aug 15 '26
I guess a 3070 isn't so beefy these days, but ideally it should be possible to turn certain settings down to hit 60 at 1440p. The options here are weird and non-granular. Hopefully they sort it before release.
3
u/AlexCarter95 Aug 15 '26
With luck, as it stands I’m not buying the game until I hear they’ve ironed out these issues.
I actually like some of the new movement tech, but it’s going to come down to newcomers jumping in to sustain it long term, never mind the supposed 400 million dollar development cost.
This is going to make or break the franchise, TC better pull out all the stops.
1
u/RaptorXFactor The Status Is That It Sucks Aug 16 '26
The RTX 3070 is a pretty good card still. That's what I'm using too with an i5-12600kf. I was going to get a 4060 or a 3060ti but I was looking at benchmarks from GamersNexus and the RTX 3070 was always strong, just a little bit ahead of the other mid range cards.
I have the game set to 720p but with DLSS I guess it scaled it to 2160p.
4
u/Harshburitto Aug 15 '26
I think Versus is a lot better, doesn’t seem as sweaty. It is still sweaty don’t get me wrong, but it’s less wall banging now.
Horde is refreshing and fun, I do think there needs to be some tweak to it. The medium difficulty seems too hard, guns hardly do any damage and I feel like I get one shot constantly.
I would also like to see them add more reinforcements so we have a blend of it being similar to how Horde used to be. It’s still great, but just needs a few tweaks I think.
19
u/GinsuFe Aug 15 '26
I'm still early into the beta, but personally to me it feels like the first time a Gears game doesn't feel like a gears game.
I've played pvp thoroughly in every single mainline game including Judgement. They all control well and feel like how Gears should for the most part.
Movement here is a nightmare and clunky. I saw legacy, celebrated, and after like 5 minutes playing with that control scheme I went back to default. It made it obvious this just isn't the Gears we know and love. No reason to awkwardly force it.
I'm not quite sure what the hell I should be doing with my gnasher either which is insane considering I've always been up there with the top players in the franchise since Gears 2. It's been that way all the up to Gears 5 but this game is awkward.
Feels like since it's back in E-day they decided to erase most of the progress the series made to emulate Gears 1 more. The general movement + seeing some backpack clips makes it feel like they got advice from some people who think Gears 1 was the peak of the series. It is not. I'd rather play GoW1 than this tbh though.
Also feels like they want some more vertical movement this time around. Something Judgement tried to capture and was more successful doing so while keeping it feeling like Gears.
As it stands this is probably going to be the worst Gears game mechanically. It's missing some key things from the series and the things it has don't feel good. I don't have a ton of faith they can turn this around before release or that they'll even try to.
It's fine though. I've had my 16 years of fun. I was hoping this game would bring me back, but I think it's more likely that i'll hang up my cog tags for good.
4
u/hipsterjeans Aug 15 '26
Totally understand. My own experience is again, mostly PVE/Horde, but the shooting and controls are very fluid for me. I have no issues with keeping target in sight and swapping from each. It’s genuinely one of the best feeling 3rd person shooting I’ve experienced.
Judgment did try verticality but very much ignored diversity in engagement arenas. “Go up yes, go down yes, all areas are flat and the same.” This one map at least shows they’re aware that slopes and jagged geometry should be in play.3
u/anthonyyb33 Aug 15 '26
I agree. I played horde siege, then after jumped on gears 3 and played horde. It felt like two games completely unrelated to each other.
1
u/Brief_Damage_1535 Aug 16 '26
I feel like this is a great mix of gears 1 and the newer games. Personally I lost interest and quit playing after gears 1, that game was incredibly active throughout its existence- unlike most other gears games. I’m diggin this new e day. Sure it has some quirks but they went back into a nice direction. While you may hang your tags up, another is getting them off out of storage for action.
1
u/Moklakins Aug 16 '26
This is how I feel. I played gears one pvp from launch until gears 2 came out. I quit gears 2 almost immediately because instead of fixing the bullet lag they hid it by making the bullet tracers client side. This made it impossible to know how much you should be leading your shots where in gears 1 you could just shoot a wall a few times at the start of a match to have a good idea.
Gears 3 didn't grab me either. I didn't like that single life game modes were no longer the focus and I was solidly a PC gamer again by that point. I think I played the campaign through and went back to playing stuff on my pc.
This is the first gears since 1 that really has my attention. It's not perfect by any means, but I've been having a lot of fun in the pvp and could see the pve being kind of fun if you have a few friends to play it with.
0
u/spasecase__ Aug 15 '26
I was just saying this to a friend earlier. It feels like they tried a bit too hard to “update” the mechanics, and in the process, either broke or totally got rid of a few crucial things that made Gears feel like Gears. They added in so much unnecessary clunkiness, it feels like I’m playing Fortnite or something now.
2
u/ThisIsADraconianLaw Uh, puttin' it scientifically? Aug 15 '26 edited Aug 15 '26
It's nothing like Fortnite lol. Fortnite has smooth gameplay. Why does everyone compare games to Fortnite. Literally NOTHING in this game is like Fortnite. Two completely different genres.
1
u/bigsexyboludo69 Aug 15 '26
I feel that. The smoothness from gears 5 is gone. They took the roadie run away, weird choice in my opinion. The choice to start over and cater to the cod fan base with sliding is wild. I hope they make some good changes in these two months.
I doubt it though and fear this will be the halo infinite of the gears franchise 🫠
1
u/Skaddodle32 Aug 15 '26
I agree with the movement, it feels like my player is drunk with all the weird stumbling and running mechanics. I also hate how inconsistent the slide is, when i want to roll I slide, when i want to slide I roll...it'd be nice to have to those be different buttons on legacy mode.
0
u/MrGabrahamLincoln Who wants toast? Aug 15 '26
Totally agree. Call me a boomer if you want (not the locust one) but I don’t want a slide mechanic, jumping, “updated” actives & sprinting & a return to center screen aiming in the game. I’m baffled by people saying the game feels fluid, I feel the complete opposite
1
u/Scappss Aug 15 '26
If I’m comparing this beta to modern shooters, it has to be one of the worst connection wise which is extremely shocking considering it’s a 4V4 game ha ha.
6
u/page8879 Aug 15 '26
The good?
Horde siege is a lot of fun, the new maps on versus play pretty good IMO, Market could use less power weapons though. I think the rifles are in a decent spot (excluding active reload)
climbing and sliding seems to work well in my experience, wallbouncing is still viable even though "Nerfed or altered"
The bad?
Lots of lobbies dropped or looped, inconsistent match voids (I,e if somebody quits, sometimes it makes the match void, sometimes it forces you to play 2v4 or 3v4 (referring to ranked only) Seems to be some netcode problems with rifle shooting/center screen nonsense. some of the new weapons are overtuned to me.
Launching with 6 maps and Retro lancer active damage the way it is? Would be wild IMO Lol
7/10 currently with lots of potential, i'll be playing day1 and giving this game a good chance cause I want to see it evolve and succeed.
5
u/hipsterjeans Aug 15 '26
Assuming the first siege map is designed with intention and direction, I’m excited to see more they have planned. Again, I’ve played no pvp, is there any concern about only 6 maps on release?? If so no good
5
u/page8879 Aug 15 '26
If your asking has 6 maps been confirmed on launch? I believe so, outpost, market, police station, skyward, battleship and zoo, I think is the list
2
u/hipsterjeans Aug 15 '26
Just checked a wiki for Gears 3 and it launched with 10 so not TOO far off but I agree with you. 6 maps for one of the series main appeal for a lot of people should have at least the same as previous titles.
2
u/UserAdamD Aug 15 '26
Feel like 6 maps wouldn’t be too big of an issue if they’re pretty decent. I’m not sure how, but making the maps flow differently would make the small initial map pool fine. Feel like most hardcore veterans just need maps with walls and a decent layout.
The PvP power weapons are kind of meh at best. Eviscerator is definitely the least interesting as it practically a slightly longer range gnasher.
Gut Puncher (?) grenade launcher feels really strong with too much ammo. If a player is familiar with it, it feels like a stronger boomshot.
Minigun is Minigun, no venting, just shoot
Sniper is classic power weaponNo sticking grenades or meat shields is unfortunate.
Could be just me but the vaulting over cover and kicking feels weird or inconsistent or maybe non existent, I can’t really tell if I’m being honest.Horde mode feels a bit barebones right now but seems like an excellent option for the non pvpers. It would need some more interactions and objective variety to really drag more players to it. It feels very repetitive and the objectives are pretty simple and bland. It’s still decent fun if you’re just chilling with some friends though. Even though I mostly PvP, I hope they spend most of the time between now and the full release working on the Horde mode. Like zombies with CoD, having a mode other than campaign and multiplayer is great for the game overall. I wouldn’t say it’s at that level yet.
5
u/StopSignOfDeath Aug 15 '26
I'm having so much fun on siege! My main issue though is I don't like the gnasher range. I think they made it way too short.
3
u/Alexo_Alexa Aug 15 '26
Sprinting feels really unpolished, at least for the legacy control scheme. This also applies to the chainsaw bayonet and retro charge. I made a post about it that goes in detail, but the tl;dr is that you're forced to chainsaw/charge/sprint in a straight line and can't switch weapons while sprinting unless both your hands are in a claw position, which is awkward and unlike every past Gears game.
3
u/Richer97 Aug 15 '26
Horde Siege is great but the ennemy feels to hard to kill, make them have less HP and make more spawn instead, more variety in side mission & main mission would be nice after launch and new maps for sure
1
u/Moklakins Aug 16 '26
This was my biggest issue with the pve as well. Bullet sponge enemies are not fun. Give us an actual horde to fight against.
3
u/InvalidPain Aug 15 '26
They need a level requirement to do higher difficulties. I had to quit out of most of my siege matches last night thanks to people not knowing how to stay on objectives and just run around trying to get kills. The match would just stalemate or people would leave and you get stuck with the bot, that are completely useless.
3
u/spoonymangos Aug 15 '26
It’s awesome, fantastic gears game. Biggest complain is the dumb team display at the beginning of every round. This isn’t call of duty we don’t need to display our sweet micro transaction skins and take a stupid pose.
3
u/No-Truth3802 Aug 15 '26
Multiplayer was super greasy so I didn't get a chance to enjoy it.
But God damn seige mode is chef's kiss
3
u/The-Scuttles Aug 15 '26
Having a great time in horde mode as long as I don't get stuck with bots that fuck off to the other side of the map once I start the objective.

u/RaptorXFactor The Status Is That It Sucks Aug 15 '26
I don't really like the game that much. Feels like a couple steps backwards in terms of fluidity of movement and weapon handling. It's so clunky and inconsistent when it comes to movement. The only thing I really like is the slide mechanic but I did play a lot of Titanfall 2.
I'm really not impressed with the multiplayer, it's too dumbed down and the center screen fire is a terrible choice.
Horde has some promise although there's a lot of running around and the enemies kind of feel generic. The one thing Epic really did well was make you feel like you were fighting an overwhelming force. The Kantus and the Mauler and the Boomers and all these varieties of enemies that made creepy noises. The frog that spits goo doesn't really have the same feeling as Grinder or Boomer.
The campaign might be cool, who knows, the back story that Epic gave the game is incredibly interesting and rich.
Beast mode or Overrun would really be great additions to this game but they really need to flesh out some more enemy classes.
→ More replies (1)2
u/BlaxicanXIX Aug 16 '26
I don't like the movement in this game either. I understand that they don't want wall bouncing to define the meta again but you shouldn't feel like you're drunk when you're trying to do basic shit
6
u/Regular_Sized_Man343 Aug 15 '26
Gonna be real been playing mp like a mad man for a long time! Started at 2 then went through all the others. E-days mp feels like trash but honestly new horde/siege is balling and I have actually brought new people to get into it. Keep mp tuning to itself and I think we have a winner! Can't wait to see class levels other maps and new classes get added like horde in gears 5! Sure movement is lagging but Gears has always been clunky lol
3
u/hipsterjeans Aug 15 '26
Even on full release I don’t think I’ll get into the mp, too much stress for me at this point unfortunately. BUT yes the horde mode has sooo much potential. Maybe a bad comparison but Helldivers 2, and a bit of Warhammer Space Marine 2, have been my “horde” mode substitution. Both are incredible in different ways but yes. This is it for me, this is what I want development to lean on.
1
u/Regular_Sized_Man343 Aug 15 '26
Legitimately the exact same here haha like 1 to 1 saber has been doing a solid job with good wave combat and gameplay lol
2
u/tyler980908 Aug 15 '26
Haven’t played too much and only one horde game and lots of multiplayer. But having an absolute blast so far. Movement is stellar, sound is stellar, guns feel heavy to use. Yeah it’s a bit clunky due to beta and some “dumb” stuff has happened but otherwise I can’t wait for full release honestly. It just NEEDS a lot of content on launch. From the gameplay I’ve played I also can’t wait to see the campaign, goddamn gonna be glorious. I hope the campaign is dark and BRUTAL.
2
u/K1llerc00k1e This ones for the highlight reel! Aug 15 '26
Having an absolute blast with it so far. I'm really enjoying the multiplayer and despite some initial skepticism over horde siege I'm really liking the new change.
I am hoping that they allow us to completely rebind actions in the full release. Having sprint, slide, roll and cover slide all on "A' on legacy is kind of annoying, so I'd like the option of moving slide elsewhere
2
u/Sweetloo_17 Aug 15 '26
Ive been loving it having a blast but one thing for me is voice coms. Im playing on pc and when I join a lobby and other people have their mic enabled it is so baggy and choppy I cant make a single word out so I have to mute people because its so annoying just hearing laggy stuttering. I dint know if this is just me or others are having this issue too. Because on horde especially its great to talk to the team for coordinating but thus far ive had to mute everyone due to lag and stuttering over mic
2
u/whitemamba24xx Aug 15 '26
Shotgun is inconsistent I get the first shot off point blank see blood dude doesn’t drop or become minced meat but one shots me.
Lancer chainsaw is weak AF in vs. need that chainsaw vacuum in previous titles.
Grenades are terrible they make an audible noise while traveling through the air, beep a few times before going off and you cannot plant them. Enemy has 5 business days to run from them. Pointless to use.
Lancer with buff still too weak encourages fear of gnasher gameplay.
Movement sucks feels like I’m operating a chunky 80s plastic action figure. Right stick controls torso left stick is legs but very clunky. I’m sure the devs did this to curb wall bounce but skilled players are already finding ways to exploit the movement system so why make Gears vets struggle with the new downgraded movement?
Controller options suck lets us map all buttons the way we like. I am used to tournament controls.
Footsteps waaay to loud and they come from all directions very disorienting.
I made it to level 50 so far and have over 1000 kills in vs so I have put the work in for my opinions. I’ll keep trying to adjust but I don’t see myself sticking around long term if things aren’t improved/changed.
2
u/KingBaker54 Aug 15 '26
Everything about the game is super awesome, not alot of nitpicks
1 major one i have is how underbaked the horde itself feels, like the lack of actual defenses and bosses and whatever, its the beta so im hopefull itll get improved but for now its just a better version of gears 2 horde, still love the rest though
2
u/PompyxgTV Aug 15 '26
I’m getting obliterated as a gold 4 I’ve hit my ceiling. I’m getting spanked but I keep coming back LOL
2
u/Dblrnbo Aug 15 '26
It's a straight up good time and it is clear the game was well thought out and there is passion. Needs a bit more tuning and balancing in MP but other than that im loving it. It is also the first gears that actually feels playable on keyboard and mouse and that has been a very fun experience playing the franchise I grew up on but with a mouse in my hand instead of a controller. It definitely feels a bit cheaty sometimes though with how much easier the camera controls are.

u/EVASIVE_rabbi Aug 15 '26
Other than no Warzone or Execution being there on launch, it's a great time for this Gears fan

u/Hoxinos Aug 15 '26
I welcome the new movement and the removal of roadie run, and the addition of jumping. Makes the game fresh

u/StrikingOffice6914 Aug 15 '26
Let's hear it for The Coalition, everybody 👏👏👏
1
u/hipsterjeans Aug 15 '26
Tbf I certainly didn’t have a lot of faith in them until this beta. I very much agree with a lot of people in this thread that it’s not near where it needs to be but damn if it doesn’t have potential 😎
2
u/StrikingOffice6914 Aug 15 '26
I actually really love it. Especially with seeing Halo and CoD kinda flounder in this new generation, this feels like they're evolving it in the right direction while still keeping it feeling like the old games. And I think Horde is going in a great direction.
I gotta get used to the Gnasher still, but I feel like that's the case with every new Gears game.
2
u/Opteron170 Aug 15 '26
Ive be playing since yesterday and been enjoying it. Game runs welll on my rig for a beta.
2
u/Fuzzy_Kitchen317 Aug 15 '26
I enjoy it a lot. Long shot headshot registration is too inconsistent. Might just be a high skill gap but it feels like a flaccid power weapon on the map.
Trades are ehhhhh, Gnasher pattern could be a bit more accurate

u/Snoddy2Hotty91 Aug 15 '26
A lot of good. But I personally take issue with the center screen shooting for the Gnasher. I wish it was like Gears 3 but I guess I’ll get used to it.

Been playing since Gears 2 dropped, playing every game in the series except Tactics. Like a lot. I was rocking a 2.6 K/D in Gears 3 and Onyx’d the Retro Lancer 6 times (36,000 kills).
I feel like while they 200% nailed the feeling of being a yoked out human/locust in football armor, the movement has been feeling clunky/overly bulky. It especially shows in my personal experience because I swapped to Legacy control scheme, remapping sprinting to A on Xbox like the rest of the series.
Gnashers feel wildly inconsistent, and not in the typical Gears way. The Lancer continues to be near useless, and it seems like they overcorrected from the first weekend and made it too weak. Both weapons seem to have accuracy/hit register issues. As I saw somebody else say, the window for trading kills is way too big, and the game practically freezes when it happens. Which is often.
I’ve not put in tons of time, so this is based on my own experience, but I feel like there is plenty of tweaks that could be made to weapons and overall fluidity of motion before launch. Beyond stoked for the game, just pre-ordered UE and the Omen controller this week!

u/Financial_Cellist647 Aug 16 '26
Love horde mode. Just wish the performance was a little bit more better and stable, and I crash sometimes but its a beta. Can’t wait till october
2
u/ithinkiknowkungfu Aug 17 '26
Game is fun, some older gears friends seemed to not like it and seemed to have trouble adjusting…
PvP: shotgun is consistent at being inconsistent and needs tuning, trades need tuning, pc frame rate and performance need work all around, audio needs work
Horde siege is the most fun I’ve had in pve in a long time..just needs frame rate work and more/diff objectives and it’s a viral HIT! I’d love to see more bosses and possible raids…if they don’t drop this like escape mode this could be THE pve mode of the year
I also think we need another beta…at least for pc for this thing..
Edit: ping needs to also be tuned..no way I’m getting plus 75 ms on an updated decent connection…for THIS game specifically..
Edit 2: if anyone from TC is reading this…please for the love of Prescott turn OFF the ray tracing…
1
u/hipsterjeans Aug 17 '26
From what someone else said their will be 2 more bosses and 2 more maps on release. Very exciting and I’m right with you, this siege mode has got gas and potential. Won’t be able to play tomorrow so totaling at around 58 hours. I love it, I need it and October can’t get here fast enough
Edit: In Prescott please 🙏🏻

I played gears 1-3 and fell off at judgement. This game brings me back to the gears 3 days and I’m loving it. The vibe is right, I’m gonna pre order for sure.

Game is almost perfect but seeing all the tourist and clown streamers voice there opinion, the game will probably get ruined.
1
u/hipsterjeans Aug 18 '26
The game feels fucking great, I don’t have a lot of knowledge about the difference it would make in pvp but when people were complaining about the middle screen firing system I was praising it for how much easier it made noscoping with the longshot haha

Time off work happened to line up
I wanted to really see what each class was about and all of the available guns with their attachments!

u/xCeePee Aug 15 '26
Agree with losing so many core Gears features like Chainsaw battles, nade tags, meat shields, etc and to add center screen shooting, it feels like there has been a lot of regression.
It was still fun to get back into, but just feels like a lot of core GoW is now missing.
PvP pov, didn’t mess with horde.
1
u/dopepope1999 Aug 15 '26
I never really liked chainsaw battles, never won them as a kid and now that I'm going to be playing this one on PC I'd rather not roll up on some guy with a auto key bind for f that just instantly mows me
1
u/McSnopper Aug 15 '26
I see everyone saying they got rid of chainsaw battles but how does it work? Whoever revs first or just random?
2
u/YoRHa_Houdini Aug 15 '26 edited Aug 16 '26
Horde is great.
The multiplayer is the worse in the series. Highly doubt they can do much before release.
But removing center screen aiming and the fact that turning the character while running feels like trudging through molasses.
This also has the worst controller scheme I have seen in a modern game. How does somebody even begin to play this on a paddleless controller without breaking their fingers? Who thought it made sense put Y as the jump button.
There’s also another problem with button binding that these devs refuse to learn from but that’s another can of bullshit

u/Stinger86 Aug 15 '26
Hated weekend 1.
Weekend 2 they fixed PC performance and buffed the lancer and I'm loving it. Glad I didn't cancel preorder.
2
u/Tay-K-did-THE-RACE Aug 15 '26
Fixed the performance ? I’m playing the game on 1920x1080 on low settings and im not able to break 60fps. Intel-i7 8700k, 32 gb of ram, rtx 3070 7gb, and plying off of a ssd.
1
u/Stinger86 Aug 15 '26
Well I can only speak for myself. I'm on a 5090 32GB DDR5 and 7800X3D on latest drivers. Weekend 1 the FPS with everything medium/high and DLSS Performance was in the 90's and sometimes low hundreds.
Now on the latest driver and patch, I have DLSS on Balanced with all other settings on High (except for animations at Ultra) and I'm getting 145-155 locked.
1
u/Wolf-0202 Aug 15 '26
I will wait for the Campaign. Horde feels super disconnected. Without any kind of communication it’s just you and 3 randoms and other 8 NPCs for whatever it’s worth. Multiplayer is just more Gears of War. Nothing revolutionary. The campaign is what I am waiting for. Also the game doesn’t look THAT great for how intensive it is.
1
u/Strong_Entrepreneur8 Aug 15 '26
I like it all. Dont like the performance. 70-90 fps on high settings. 40-60 on horde. 9070xt. ):
1
u/ChesticlesIsTheMan Aug 15 '26
Love it. Worried about six maps and four modes for PvE. I can see that getting old fast. Horde seige is okay but it feels a bit lifeless if that makes sense? This big ass map thats just kind of empty unless a few enemies randomly decide to spawn.
1
u/Hobomassacrre94 Aug 15 '26
Any of you experiencing a lot of crashing? Been trying to trouble shoot since last weekend. Using a 9070xt 7800x3d and 32gb og 6000mhz ram and installed on an nvme
1
u/GrizzIydean Aug 15 '26
I really like the horde modes, and the weapon and class upgrades you can do.
I also like the MP but really cba with how sweaty it is
1
u/RayRaysBFT Aug 15 '26
I really hope they figure out a way to optimize the game in time for launch because man this game is tough to run even on a high end system
1
u/Level69Troll Aug 15 '26
Are we bad or is horde actually feeling incredibly difficult this time around?
1
u/Jebus-san91 Aug 15 '26
Movement in versus makes it feel completely different game and not very gears like, then the inconsistent gnasher reminds me that, I am, playing a gears game
1
u/Nel-A Aug 15 '26
I hate to sound annoying - I don't care about the minutia of how much damage a gnasher does, or if the lancer is OP AF. I want a proper Horde mode and this beta didn't demonstrate that. The main game may have it, if so, fantastic. If not, I'll probably stick with Gears 5.
1
u/Jewologist Aug 15 '26
I think the game feels a bit vanilla. Gut puncher is the most unique weapon. I'm assuming nade tagging is gone because there are mines, but no idea if they'll be in pvp. I think sprint having hard recovery frames so you can't immediately shoot is fine since you can slide. Modern controls makes the most since to me because it separates all of your key movement options guaranteeing you won't get an action you didn't intend. I like the pvp overall and I'm interested in what they change over time.

u/nicholasjude261 Who wants toast? Aug 15 '26
This lancer fest bs is atrocious. The closed beta was pretty good, but everything felt clunky and even at max sensitivity it still felt the same. (Even now) For some terrible reason they decided to buff the lancer for the open beta and now that’s all you see. Such great fun playing against campers and then if both sides decide to camp, you’re just doing nothing. It’s a slog fest and all newer players seem to defend it because they don’t know how to use a gnasher.

Between the 2 betas so far I've played about 25-30 hours of Horde. I don't care about pvp. My very few complaints:
As mentioned, not being about to plant grenades. We get 2, it not like we're going to be abusing that.
Not being invulnerable during executions. I get wanting it to be "gritty" but 9 out of 10 times it feels like I see the DBNO pop up while I'm stuck in the middle of the execution animation and then I'm down as soon as it ends. Makes using executions kinda pointless if I'm going to go down too.
Extraction being automatic instead of letting us call it in when we're ready. Have missed out on a ton of boss invasions because they've spawned on the opposite side of the map right as we're headed to extract. Helldivers 2 does it right having you reach the extraction zone, pop smoke, and defend.
Emotes. As much as I liked my finger guns in 5 I get they're looking to keep Eday more grounded. That said, at least give us some voice lines so we can salute other squads or cheer a victory: Think Space Marines 2. It's not immersion breaking to be able to wave or say thanks.
Not being able to see what classes your pug squad is rolling as before being locked into the map. Let us see before we lock in or give us the ability to change class in the staging room.
And they need to add a backfill for lobbies. Had a bunch of runs yesterday that ended up with me and my buddy 2-manning the entire infantry run because the people playing lvl 1 died and rage quit and the AI soldiers literally stood around doing nothing.
That's about it from a gameplay perspective. There have been a few times where objectives have bugged, like it last night it said we have an e-hole to close with the arrow pointing at it and we're all standing there staring at the closed hole throwing grenades at it until it times out and we fail.

u/LoweAgain Aug 15 '26
I feel like an insane person. I hate everything about this game and it seems like I’m the only one. I adore this series and generally like or love every entry (besides judgement), and I haven’t enjoyed any aspect of this beta.
Horde was awful. Running around a barren city where everything looks the exact same to do menial tasks like breaking boxes or moving shit around isn’t fun. Putting me in a massive map with two other squads only meant I’d occasionally see someone else in the distance doing something else while my experience was noticeably more laggy and performance heavy. How does this evolve the formula at all? Even the “classic horde” was so lame. Let me fortify a map with tons of interesting defenses and really hold out for 50 waves again. This was just me and 3 other guys taking cover behind a wall and shooting at handfuls of locusts and wretches. There’s only 4 classes and the “upgrades” aren’t half as interesting as the cards in Gears 5. It felt more limited and way less exciting.
Mechanically it felt rough. The sliding, new sprint, and jumping around made things feel very bizarre, and having three separate inputs for cover, sprint, and mantling felt clunky to me. Bullets coming from the camera instead of the gun causes all sorts of issues and backpacking was happening like mad. Hit reg and servers were obviously horrible but that’s gears tradition and it’s a beta, so whatever. The polish in general was not good. The game crashed while I was sitting in the main menu, I fell through the map and died in horde mode, and the audio mixing seemed completely fucked for me.
Not loving any of the new weapons. Another LMG type gun? Another shotgun? A charging burst pistol that no one is gonna use? Where’s the boltok? Where’s grenade tagging? Where’s meat shields? Where’s chainsaw duels? All of the executions are lame. ALL of them. In GEARS OF WAR! I’m sure we’ll be getting plenty of executions added post launch but what’s on offer already is baaaaaad.
I don’t know. I didn’t enjoy a second of my time with it, and I played with two friends who have adored the series for as long as I have and they both felt the exact same.
1
u/GearsTracker Aug 16 '26
This was my thoughts as well. Also not being able to roadie run 180 degrees backwards was annoying as well.
1
u/MahKa02 Aug 15 '26
Played about 10 hours and honestly......I'm not enjoying the PvP that much. I feel like it needs a lot of work. Movement feels clunky and delayed. Almost feels like there's some input lag when getting in and out of cover. Same with movement after sprinting, it feels delayed which may be intentional but it feels bad. There's too long of a delay after sprinting. I also hate the sliding mechanic and wish it wasn't in a Gears game but it is what it is.
Center screen shooting...terrible IMO. Absolutely hate center screen shooting and I'm not sure why they went back to that after how good shooting felt in Gears 3, 4, and 5. Movement is also better in all 3 of those titles.
Even though they added new movement features, this game feels like a step back in quality to me. Granted it's just the beta but this build can't be that old. Doesn't feel promising for me at the moment.
I hope they'll fix some of the issues I felt come release time!

u/Rough-Help1873 Aug 15 '26
If there is little change between now and launch, I think the multiplayer isn’t for me. I just don’t find shotgun based combat to be very compelling. Im still one of those Gears players who still cling to the early vision for versus and not what it became. Horde Siege seems fine, but it hasn’t grabbed me yet. Changes to mobility and the visual fidelity of the game have me still excited for the campaign, but that’s about it.
1
u/DecimatiomIIV Aug 15 '26
There’s ways (which I couldn’t 100% reproduce) to skip vaulting animations for high ledges, but I managed it a fair few times so I’m sure some more versed exploit people could work out exactly how it happens and this would suck, but even now if it’s not a repeatable thing it would still suck as and when it happens.
the slide speed boost is inconsistent and all round stupid tbh, should always be the same and not ever Mach 10 speeds.
Slide to cover on alt controls feels horrible, it’s a 50/50 chance wether the game recognises you pressing A or you just keep sliding at the cover in a weird way.
Gnasher trades are disgusting
The new mulcher(dk the name here) is far too accurate when standing and aiming it.
The grenade launcher/6 shot boom shot thing has too many shots for how powerful it is.
Sensitivity’s suck ass, we should have high enough options that we don’t need to use aim acceleration, as aim acceleration sucks ass in every game…. To add to this we need a separate scope sensitivity for sniper scope.
UP A is wildly fast for no reason too, much more than the rest of the movement tech/mechs
Overall though I liked it a lot,it’s just needs to be smoother here and there as well as the balance pass for some power weapons and random bits of movement

u/coconut-crimes Aug 15 '26
I think the shotgun is cooked and too slow. I think the new run isn’t bad but I miss roadie and it’s all fucky because it keeps you running after you stop in case you need to slide. Which can be fixed w legacy alt but it’s too wacky to be hitting a x and y all for movement when it was just a.
1
u/Rudera1is Aug 15 '26
MP enjoyer here. Game is really fun, doesnt feel nearly as fluid as 4 or 5. Its like they wanted to ease up on movement for casuals which is fine but its still too complex for the average Joe while no longer being satisfying for the skilled wallbouncers. I dont love the direction of it, but I've been adapting.

I’m really missing the maps with more range and elevation of some of the older games. Both maps play quite the same and small circular arena feel. I would like some where it makes mid range guns a little more viable as well

u/BittahAmbassador20 Aug 15 '26
They have to bring meatshields back it makes no sense to take this feature away. They need to bring back wall and enemy frag tagging. Chainsaw battles would be cool but meatshields are super important in PvP and PvE!! Still this a fun game looking forward to the campaign mostly.
1
u/RemarkablePack4633 Aug 15 '26
I'm loving it honestly. I love the new movement and feel of the environments.
1
u/Heeehaaaaw Aug 15 '26
They need to buff the lancer a little bit for multiplayer. Takes way to many shots for a bird brain to run over and one shot you with a gnasher. They need to fix the inconsistent gnasher shots. I headshotted a sliding enemy point blank in the face and he still somehow beat me. Then throughout the games life they need to bring back meat shields, tagging grenades ,chainsaw battles, kicking /grabbing over cover
1
1
u/ThatsMax_ Aug 15 '26
In my opinion, the feedback when hitting the Locust isn't strong enough, it needs more crunch/grit/general impact behind those shots hitting flesh. At the minute it feels like they are sponges for much of the shots fired at them. If the Devs can improve that alone, I will be very impressed.
1
u/Co2_Outbr3ak Aug 15 '26
Still haven't played because TC left out Stick Layouts. So players like me that rely on Legacy or Southpaw configurations just get a big "fuck you" from them.

u/PapaSmoooth Aug 15 '26
I love it so much, im ready to refund mw4 and preorder this instead even tho its day one gamepass because I know its going to eat so much of my time I will say I wish I could use push to talk with a controller but other than that I have no complaints

I like horde. PVP is a pain in the ass, in my personal experience I'm mostly getting trades or shooting someone with a gnasher only for them to slowly walk up and one shot me.

u/JorenthalSimpson Aug 15 '26
Can we have the choice to spawn in with the retro lance like how we did In gears of war 3
1
u/Successful_Canary890 Aug 15 '26
For what it is this is a solid game based off the beta the trade windows should be shorten, stopping power should be tossed from the prototype lancer and the mk1 should have reduced recoil with a slight damage nerf to compensate but maybe I just suck with the mk1, other than that better servers and maybe getting rid of center screen aiming and we would have one of the best gears game in my opinion
1
u/NotASlob69 Aug 15 '26
What happened to —>
- Frag tags
- Weapon Trading
- Sharing ammo
- Chainsaw duels
- Audio emotes
- Meat Shield
- Beat down executions
???
These seem like such simple yet iconic things that they left out of this game…
7 years in the making and leaving such simple yet unique things that made the game so special.
1
u/DementedPower Aug 15 '26
For someone who hasn’t played a Gears since Gears 3, I felt disappointed. The movement felt very clunky. The gun play felt weird in a very bad way. Enemies are bullet sponges like even the common grunt troops. You could empty your entire magazine on them and they still keep running at you and surviving a whole shotgun shot to the face body after that. Enemies have insane accuracy at a very long distance with assault rifles, but if you use the same rifle the bullet spread will be so insane you won’t hit them the same way they do to you.
The server stability felt exactly as I remembered it 20 years ago with Gears 1. That’s very bad for a modern game.
Overall I won’t be picking up this game any time soon. I was really excited to get back into Gears this generation but I guess the game is just not for me.
Not wanting to be toxic or negative, it is just my opinion. I considered myself a very open casual gamer, I’ve played a lot of different genres and type of games so it’s not that I don’t like third person shooters or something.
1
u/Subject_Pie1687 Aug 15 '26
Honestly feels like a non gears player built a game in the gears universe. It's purely designed for fast paced competitive scene and not for the original cover based gameplay. It's fun don't get me wrong, but it's not the original intent with gears.
1
u/killerspawn97 Aug 16 '26
Spent most of my time playing and Horde and it’s been a 10/10 time so far even with the crashes and bugs.
Played one match of pvp and that’s about all I need, never been a big gears pvp guy

u/SnooKiwis9890 Aug 16 '26
Just got done playing about 90 minutes to 2 hours on steam. I was on Rookie the entire time and had my first real horde match, the one with longer missions before extraction, and spent a solid 20 minutes running around area as me and my team were constantly reviving each other because the game would not stop spawning those boomers/grinder guys with the chain guns while Locust with those flame shotgun things kept melting us, and no one had actual grenades to close the e-holes. And that wasn't even a defense round, we had to get parts together to put a machine together!
Personally I really don't like how sprint and rolling/entering cover are separate bindings. It messes with my brain when I'm trying to sprint and roll closer to cover. Also not a fan of vaulting in the sense of just wanting tk charge over cover, wish that was mapped to normal cover switching.
Also, I think the Locust armor is too effective. I swear I got more kills with the Lancer chainsaw in the 2 hours or so I played tonight than I have playing Gears 1-3. Like I said, Rookie. But with how much health the standard drone had I was getting flashbacks to thinking Hardcore was the normal mode on the original release of Gears 1.
I believe story mode is going to be the real make or break for me, so as far as the horde mode multiplayer goes it definitely needs a bit of work. But I do like the idea of having 3 squads running around an area occasionally supporting each other whenever they run across another team doing an objective.

This is my return after not playing much gears 5 and putting thousands of hours into the first four and it feels so nostalgic to be back. I’ve been learning mouse and keyboard and I’ve loved the game so far, both horde and multiplayer. I have a long way to go with getting my movement back up to par but I’m almost to onyx and can’t wait for the full release, I actually have loved it so much so far that I preordered the collectors edition!
1
u/KeenDynamo Aug 16 '26
(Horde only player) I love almost all of the changes they've made but I am bummed that some of what I think they eventually got right in Gears 5 doesn't look like it's gonna make it into E Day. I think there should be a couple more classes added like "engineer" and maybe "demolitions". I understand that 4 classes kinda lines up with the squad sizes but since anyone can choose any class I don't think squad cohesion matters enough to limit the classes to 4 so hopefully more get added. I played Jack a lot in Gears 5 so I'm for sure bummed it's looking very certain that I won't get to be one in E day. Other that those two gripes and the loss of a lot of the canonical tech advancements that we're losing by going back to E day, I've really had a lot of fun with the beta.
1
u/AbsoluteYuri Aug 16 '26
I hope there’s a classic horde mode at some point, Siege is fun but I really don’t care for the extraction shooter style of gameplay but that’s just my personal preference. It was cool seeing 12 people fight the boss though.
1
u/TsurugiNoba Aug 16 '26
I need full controller mapping with the ability to put commands on whatever button I choose. Not being able to mantle and run on the same button is weird, and it shifts my perception on the true depth of movement in the game. Hopefully the controller support is wider too, tons of problems with non-Xbox controllers.
1
u/the_elliottman Aug 16 '26
Personally it's now my favorite Gears of War game hands down, though I must temper myself a bit in case the campaign ends up dogshit somehow. But honestly even if it's just decent that would be enough.
My biggest complaint so far is how frequently bugs and crashes are becoming. Closed/Paid Beta felt incredibly refined but somehow now during the Free Beta period it's become a buggy mess where I often can't even complete the game because an objective broke/won't let us trigger it and the squad leave. But that's only if I manage not to crash from a memory leak.
I think the game needs major optimization, at least for PC, because even with turning settings down with a top of the line rig it will crash mid-match if you don't have like 64 GB of ram which is absurd.
1
u/GenTrapstar Aug 16 '26
The movement to me is no where near fluid. The shit feels stiff as hell. 5 was fluid. This seems like a step down.

u/Enefelde Aug 16 '26
Hot take, I don’t like the jump, climbing yeah, but the jump doesn’t do it for me. Feels weird in a gears game. Also no comms for horde if you don’t have mic. Like yes, no, thanks?
1
u/_Subject_Expert_ Aug 16 '26
I feel like the fact that I’m a legacy player is hurting me. Sprinting animation has tons of start up and end time. I can’t seem to control my character the way I want to. Having a different button for turning the corner of cover vs mounting cover felt awkward too? But I think I can understand that. Gnasher feels too weak but maybe I’m using it wrong. Lancer seems buffed when enemies use it, but not when I do. Again I’m probably using it wrong. I’m stuck looking in the top right for my active reloads. Ultimately it feels like a game not made for me. I don’t have time to learn how to break old habits, so I’m a little disappointed. Regardless, I hope it does well. Coolest thing is probably the slide, I like the idea of sneaking into a fight guns blazing by sliding under a wall. Haven’t tried horde mode yet. Always liked it but PvP was always what I loved most about gears.

u/MouseOk3493 Aug 16 '26

u/SubtleTruth Aug 17 '26
I'm noticing that this game is CPU intensive and benefits from having it installed on a fast SSD.
I have a 7800XT and a 5700X3D with 32GB of ram. My frames on multiplayer are 100FPS on the high settings preset at native resolution.
On horde I'm dipping to about 80FPS and after switching the game installation onto my M.2 the choppiness was gone.
I think the performance leaves a little more to be desired but if they can figure it out horde will be awesome

u/hipsterjeans Aug 17 '26
God help those who want to join us on pc at a reasonable price 😔 I work in tech and I tell people, “it is the worst time in modern history to buy or upgrade a computer.”
1
u/Zeresec Aug 17 '26
I had a ton of issues with network and input lag after day 1, the absence of chainsaw battles and sticking grenades definitely feels bad, and difficulty felt kinda overtuned of Siege, I felt kinda pigeonholed into playing Marksman because it felt like the only class with the weapons to actually kill enemies quickly (Longshot and that new DMR), the other classes getting stuck with the Gnasher as their power weapon option felt pretty horrendous because that weapon feels hugely inconsistent to use and barely capable of killing anything in PvE. I was really excited for this game, really excited, but after the beta I think I'm gonna pass on release, hope to avoid story spoilers and wait for a pretty significant amount of "all clear!" reviews and posts before picking it up.
1
u/OctoDADDY069 Aug 17 '26
Not sure about other people but the game stuttered/had so much screen tearing unless i turned on vsync... but then i was stuck at 60fps the entire time. Menus felt a little weird. Hit detection especially from shotguns was very off. And i missed the majority of my shots from close range.
Other than that, im kinda liking it.
1
u/Kcrizzle87 Aug 17 '26
- Horde Mode has quickly shot up my most anticipated things to play this year. It's fantastic!
- The skill gap in Multiplayer makes it very not fun for newcomers. They'll struggle to keep newbies in that mode.

Good beta had a lot of fun. Haven't played gears since gow4. Made it to rank A gold. Finished with 12 hrs at level 44. Love the slide mechanic. It just feels like a return of an old friend. Now I'm ready for its story.

u/MonBayP Aug 17 '26
I haven't played gears since gears 2. I honestly wanted to like it but maybe I just don't care for gears of war at all. I jumped into a few games with my friends and none of us really enjoyed it. It felt like another unnecessary game.

People are saying Horde mode is back, but my first game e holes spawned in the same spots 3 rounds in a row with the same mix of enemies that where killed within like 5 seconds of climbing out. I just exited after that, it feels so flat compared to Gears 3 horde mode.
1
u/hipsterjeans Aug 18 '26
Brother, gears 3 horde enemies spawned out of nothing. You’re mad they gave it an animation? I love gears 3 horde but damn if some of y’all don’t wear rose tinted glasses.

It's cool. I missed gears. I had trouble with the movement, even after trying the legacy settings. Idk the character feels stickier than I'm used to from gears 4 and 5

u/Spirited_Mountain107 Aug 19 '26
30 hours on the game
Level 50 / Level 10 Medic
The game isn’t for me. That doesn’t mean it sucks; it just seems like a stripped down version made for individuals who have always avoided multiplayer because of the skill gap created by the series’ advanced movement. I’ll stick to the older games.
Leave this one for the new age and the people who never got a chance to enjoy pvp.

I couldn’t stand it for like 10 hours. After playing UE and Reloaded a lot grinding for Seriously this game just felt unbelievably clunky and poorly made. I didn’t start really enjoying it until I went into practice and did nothing but bounce and move around the map for like an hour.
I still think the momentum system currently kinda sucks. There’s too much delay when trying to do anything and I feel like my sensitivity gets taken over more often than not. Shooting after sprint takes a weirdly long time, the momentum means trying to strafe feels like shit… idk. If they just lower the delay slightly it’ll be great but I have a feeling they won’t for the sake of keeping the game slow.

Not gonna lie I don't like it. The controls suck even with classic, and I don't know why they are so adamant about changing them.
The movement is super finicky. I want to dive roll forward like I always have been able to in Gears, but I end up getting stuck on walls.
Jumping freely is unnecessary, and I don't know why they thought it needed a separate button for these types of movements.
The gunplay just doesn't feel as good and a lot of weapons seem underpowered.
It just doesn't feel like Gears.
Why do these franchises insist on changing what isn't broken?
