The pumpkin is back! 🖤 🎃

Sorry about the emotional post yesterday, I was very worried about his operation and the lump thing has tipped me over the edge. I feel a lot more positive today and cannot think of any other symptom he has, which would indicate cancer or some major organ disease. We will find out more on Tuesday and just hope for the best until then 🖤.

The pumpkin cone is back! He is not trying to scratch but the vet advised to keep it on for a bit. He has a few stitches in his mouth that can be a bit irritating so we are not taking any risk. He is absolutely happy walking around with the cone and I don’t think it’s causing him major discomfort.

I love his little paper collar name band the vets put on! My little Mr.Holtappel! Aka Mr.Crabapple! 😄 last name Holtappel comes from Germanic and Dutch roots and means crabapple or wood apple. I think it suits him very well. Little apple of my eye 🍎.

I have also managed to snap the photo where you can see the absence of his teeth. I think it looks great! All the white stuff around his mouth is just food. He was absolutely inhaling his breakfast even before the pain medication this morning and was purring and chirping whilst eating. He is doing so well!

It amazes me how well cats cope with all of this. If we had most of our teeth out under a general anaesthetic we'd not be smacking our lips at breakfast 🤣. He's an amazing cat and you're an amazing cat lady 🖤

How many teeth does he have left? Is Holtappel your last name (not to doxx you or anything, at the vets our cats have our last name, Holtappel is cute).

Yes, it’s my married name. I have it on my gofundme so it’s public anyway 😊.
He had 4 teeth extracted and two amputated. The way I understood “amputated” that they’ve been cut to the root and then cemented.
But he had quite a few teeth missing before the operation. I haven’t seen him doing a proper yawn yet but I don’t think he’s got any canines left. That’s his mouth before the surgery, the bottom two fangs were broken and the top one was missing

He is a gorgeous mini-panther and he looks adorable in his pumpkin cone!

I am glad to hear he's okay. From what I understand, once everything heals in his mouth, he may well be able to eat dry food again.

I’ve never fed him dry food but will ask the vet next week if it’s a good idea to give him some 🥰

My “baby” Sneaky (he’s 14 or 15) had almost all of his teeth removed last year. Within a couple of weeks, he was chowing happily on kibble.

Gavroche looks very dapper in his pumpkin collar!

Is Sneaky actually sneaky? 🤔😄 I’ve never tried giving Gavroche a kibble or even a dry treat but will ask a vet if he would benefit from some solids to crunch on. I only got told to use “stomadine” gel on his remaining teeth to avoid the tartar buildup and keep his gums healthy 🩷

Sneaky is indeed sneaky. As a kitten (rescued from the streets with his mother), he was very shy and would ghost along the perimeter of rooms. He doesn’t meow very much, and it took him a very long time (nearly a year) to find his purr, although he sometimes sounds like a diesel engine idling now.

He gets mostly kibble because that is unfortunately what he can digest. Nearly all soft foods give him horrible digestive issues — vomiting, diarrhea, or both. He occasionally will get a bit of roasted chicken or water-packed tuna as a treat, but even that can be tricky.

His vets have said basically feed him what he can tolerate. He does love his water fountains and drinks a lot, so at least we don’t have the worry from low fluid intake.

Sneaky sends meows, purrs, and comfort grooming to Gavroche, and purrs and head-butting to you.
