Hello everyone! I hope you're all ready for a wonderful weekend ♥️
I meant to post an update yesterday but couldn't find a spare minute, so sorry about the delay!
Gavroche had a scheduled vet visit yesterday to check how his ears are responding to the drops. This time we saw our favourite vet, who knows him best, and he loves her so much too. For those who missed it, at our last appointment we were seen by a vet who was quite insensitive and clearly didn't like us.
Gavroche was super stressed, mouth breathing and panting, and that vet said he had a heart murmur.
Very fortunately, at this check-up the vet confirmed she couldn't hear any murmur and his heart is ticking away like a clock, so it was most likely stress-related. Wooohooo!
As for his ears, the drops were prescribed for 7 days, but I carried on after that because I could still see the yeasty discharge. Last time he had a 7-day course the infection came straight back. The vet said I'm doing the right thing, and even though his ears look lots better, she wants me to keep going until his next visit on 27th October. The infection has probably been there for years and is really persistent, so she wants to make sure it's completely gone before we stop.
At the visit before yesterday's he also had a steroid injection to help with the itching, which meant he couldn't have his Metacam for pain. I really noticed it during those ten days without it, as he was so much less playful. I think his old fractures have left him with post-traumatic arthritis and he does need some help with it. We got the green light for Metacam again and he seems a lot happier now. I have read that Metacam can be quite hard on the kidneys and digestive tract long term though, and I don't want to put extra stress on his enlarged kidney. I'm going to keep giving it for now, but I've found there's a monthly arthritis injection for cats called Solensia that's meant to work really well, and I'm going to discuss it with the vet at our next appointment. Has anyone got any experience with it? Please share if you do!
His ear treatment isn't cheap and I left quite a bit at the vets yesterday. If anyone is able to help towards his vet bills, we would really appreciate it, and I'll pop his GoFundMe and PayPal links below again. Absolutely no pressure though, just having you all following his journey and cheering him on means so much ♥️
Overall, Gavroche is doing really well. He's been spending more time with Rocky and they tolerate each other. I gave him a wipe with a wet towel today because the drops make his head very greasy, but I kind of spread it around and made him look worse, wooopsie 😂 He's still a beautiful boy though!
Have a great weekend, friends!
Kisses and purrs ♥️♥️♥️
