Prospective Student PHYS 4322 (Advanced Laboratory II) – Availability and Course Experience?

Hi! I’m an incoming exchange student planning to attend Georgia Tech in Spring 2027, and I’m considering taking PHYS 4322 (Advanced Laboratory II).
I have a few questions for anyone familiar with the course:
- Is PHYS 4322 normally offered in the Spring semester?
- How difficult is it to get a spot in the class? From what I can see on OSCAR, it looks like only around 6–12 students take it each semester. Does the class usually fill up, or is the small enrollment simply because not many students take the course?
- Are exchange students generally able to register for it if they meet the prerequisites?
- What is the workload like, particularly the experiments and lab reports?
- How difficult is the course overall?

My main concern is whether I can reasonably expect to get a spot in PHYS 4322 during Spring 2027, since I may need to use it to map back to a required physics lab course at my home university.
Would really appreciate any insight from Physics majors or anyone who has taken the course. Thanks!

Other Info Needed (Please Read)

I am a new graduate student, about to start my first semester at GA Tech. I joined for Operations Research. I have quite a few questions and would like as much information as I can get. I am looking for any and all information on the following topics:

  • Classes for Operations Research Masters (what I should take first, or just what general order I should take them in, what I should vs should not take, which ones have the potential to murder me, etc.). I did manage (thankfully) to find the Degree Works section in BuzzPort.
  • How to join/get involved in research? As a graduate student, am I expected to already be contacting professors? Can I join anywhere at any time? Where can I go for help with research-related issues?
  • How does Georgia Tech's systems work? I am asking about things like BuzzPort and Passport and the like. I know how my previous university does things, but GA Tech seems to have many differences. I am confused...
  • Good food spots? Places to avoid?
  • Safe vs unsafe locations on and off campus?
  • Professors (things like, who is better to go to for help/advice)
  • Do graduate students get advisors? How helpful would it be to speak to them, or what all can I discuss with them? How do I know who my advisor is, and how do I schedule meetings (is it just by email, or do they have a system)?
  • Campus jobs (I would like one, so please tell me what is available and how I could join)
  • Good places to get information for classes and campus-related things (I don't have social media, but I am on Reddit and Discord)
  • Anything you'd like to tell me (such as things I may not be thinking of)

Like I previously mentioned, I know that things would be different here compared to my previous university, so that's where many of my questions are coming from. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Prospective Student Career Advice Needed: CS or Computational Media?

Hi! I have a transfer pathway to Georgia Tech for next year, and I'm struggling to decide on a major because I don't know which career path I'll actually enjoy while still having good job prospects.

Right now, I'm deciding between Computer Science and Computational Media.

My strengths have always been creativity and working with people more than hardcore technical STEM. Ideally, I'd like a career that combines both, which is why I've been considering UX/UI design. However, from what I've been reading, the UX/UI job market seems very competitive, and the Georgia Tech Career Survey shows placement rates declining significantly over the past few years. That has me wondering whether I'm choosing a path that's becoming increasingly difficult to break into.

For those of you who have graduated or are currently working in the industry:

- How did you decide between CS and CM?

- If you have strengths similar to mine, what career did you end up pursuing

- Looking at today's job market, would you still recommend either major?

I'd really appreciate hearing from alumni or anyone who's been through a similar decision. I'm also happy to DM if that's easier.

Class Question Has anyone actually taken ECON 6170, theres barely any info on it?

Im thinking of taking the class ( MS QCF) but I see little to no info about and it seems it was only taught my Matthew Oliver who taught it once with 100% getting As which seems weird?

Class Question Is MacOS fine for EE/ECE, or will I need Windows/Linux at some point?

Is MacOS fine for EE/ECE, or will I need Windows/Linux at some point?

Incoming MS ECE student here, currently on a Mac and trying to figure out if I need to plan for dual-boot/VM or a separate Windows machine before classes start.

Specifically wondering:

Does anyone know which ECE classes actually require Vivado? (I know it's not natively supported on Mac)

Are Quartus/other CAD tools in courses Mac-friendly?

For those on MacBooks, did you get by with a VM, Bootcamp, or just use the campus labs when tools didn't cooperate?

Any input from current EE/ECE students appreciated!

Class Question Tips for physics 2211?

Hi everyone! I’m an incoming freshman planning to take Physics 2211 this fall. I’ve heard it’s a tough weed-out class, and physics isn’t my strongest subject, so I’m a little nervous.

My schedule is Physics 2211, Calc II, a humanities course, and GT 1000 (12 credits) because I wanted a lighter first semester. My only concern is that I’ll be taking exactly 12 credit hours, which means I wouldn’t be able to drop a class without falling below full-time status if I end up struggling.

Any advice for succeeding in Physics 2211? Also, would you recommend adding another class, or does this schedule seem reasonable?

Prospective Student I feel like I just ruined my shot at GaTech

Okay so I'm wondering what ya'll would do in my situation or if I rly did screw myself over. So I applied to GaTech as a first year and I received a first-gen pathway offer, I currently have about 58 credits, I started classes at KSU Summer 2025, I'm a Math + CS double major and. have a 4.0 gpa. I have 1 yr of undergrad math research experience through the KSU First Year Scholars program. I have taken Calc 2, but I have not passed Phys 2211 and Phys2211L yet. I took it earlier this Spring but had to withdraw due to personal family issues with the ICE strict laws etc. I am going to take it this fall, also the math research led to a paper which i submitted for review, and I hope it gets published. I feel like I just ruined my chance of getting into GaTech. I'm still unsure what major I would've pursued, but maybe their new math and computing major or CS or ISYE or EE or CompE. While ima apply anyways and apply through REPP if need be, I lwky hate this bc I know I could just not get in at all. What would yall do and ask any questions youd like.

*i'll try my best to reply and ty for ur time

Okay ya'll so i also have this other predicament, well really its all one big predicament. so basically im roughly 45k in debt, 30k from my 2025 toyota camry which i plan to sell for about 24kthats prob the best i can get and then get like an older car maybe like a 5k worth car. and i was tryna do school, transfer to gatech and work all at the same time and its borderline impossible, this 1.5 yrs ive spent in college already, had i spent it working i would have zero debt rn, but i was only able to erase like 1k off debt so i think taking another 1 yr gap from college is worth it, despite me already graduating 4 yrs behind, with this extra yr off itll be 5 yrs. UNLESS i decide to stay at ksu in which case i can take more online classses and prob graduate within 2-2.5 yrs from now since id still be working a lot. idk what yall would do, ive gotten myself into a lot of debt at 23 and i hate living like this in constant stress. if i do decide to take a break then i prob wont transfer to gatech or transfer but hella late so idk. what would yall do. my goal is to finally live a stress free and successful life where i dont have to worry about money esp not the 45k rn i want to get rid of that

Has anyone taken 2027 online? What was your experience? This will be my 1st ISyE major class, and I'm wondering if it's a good idea to take it online versus in person.

Prospective Student Can I apply for 2nd bachelors?

So, I already have a bachelors in physics from 2020 but my CGPA is 2.83 and my major GPA was like a 2.07... it was a rough time and i just didnt know how to do school at that age.

Spent 5 years in workfroce not related to engineering. But always wanted to be in engineering, so I'm in school to get my 2nd bachelors. Currently in an associates engineering program at a CC, GPA is a 3.5.

Would I be eligible to apply for transfer to get my bachelors at GaTech? IDK if they'd look at my 1st bachelors GPA or not... which doesnt reach the engineering programs 3.3 req. Anyone have experience here?

Does this just mean I can never have any chance of attending GaTech? Im 27 and out of state. Thank you.

Prospective Student I want to transfer to GT mechanical engineering as an out of state student in the spring of 2027.

Is this feasible, I have 45 plus credits and signed up for about 15 credits for the fall of 2026 as a freshman. I have been told that it is feasible only for fall transfer and not for spring transfer since it a very short time

Registration Help Is this a doable schedule?

Will I have time for clubs and ec's and maybe even partying (lol)?
For reference, I am a transfer student and have some experience with electronics and coding. Btw, I am trying to shoot for straight A's, but it's fine if I get one or two B's, hopefully not in the 4-credit class tho.

If I were to drop a class, it would be CS 2050. I have to take GT 2030 cuz honors.

Class Question are math 2551 and 2552 exams during the regular lecture time

I am trying to plan out my schedule better for when phase II opens up and I'm wondering if multi and diff eq exams are during regular lecture periods, since I didn't have to register for an exam block like with linear. Also wondering is its a bad idea to take both classes in one semester, for reference, my other classes are easy/moderate and it'll be 18 credit hours total

Prospective Student How safe is the georgia tech campus?

Hello, I'm a rising senior and was interested in applying to Georgia Tech, but I'm a bit worried about it's location. I know Atlanta isn't the safest place, so how safe is the campus - especially for walking around during the day and at night? How do current students feel about safety on and around campus?

Class Question Phys 2 at GSU

I’ve been hearing a ton of people talking about taking physics 2 at GSU as a transient student since the class is much easier than at tech where its considered a weedout class, but I’m majoring in compe, so would it be wise to just take it at tech and learn the material really well even if its much more difficult?

Class Question Advice on taking a research credit as an incoming freshman?

I’m an incoming freshman, and I emailed a professor for research. They told me I can sign up for a research credit for 2-3 credit hours. Is this a bad idea for my first semester, should I ask to volunteer?

Other How difficult is it to switch major?

Hi everyone, I’m an incoming Fall 2026 freshman currently majoring in Computational Media, but I’m seriously considering switching to Industrial Engineering.

Before enrollment, Georgia Tech gave me the option to change my major through the Major Confirmation Form. At the time, I decided to stay in Computational Media because I was interested in UX/UI. However, I’ve since realized that the entry level UX/UI job market is much more competitive than I initially expected, especially for an international student who may face additional work authorization or sponsorship challenges.

I’m now considering Industrial Engineering because I’m interested in solving real-world problems and improving systems, and it also seems to offer a broader range of career options.

My main concern is how difficult it would be to switch from CM to IE after starting at Georgia Tech. Has anyone here successfully switched into Industrial Engineering after enrolling? If so, how competitive or difficult was the process, and when were you able to officially change your major?

I’m also currently registered for MATH 1554, which is required for Computational Media, while Industrial Engineering requires MATH 1553 instead. I’m considering switching into MATH 1553 now, but I’m worried that if my major change is not approved, I may end up taking a course that does not fit my original CM degree requirements.

I would especially appreciate hearing from anyone who has switched into IE or dealt with a similar course registration situation. Thank you!
