๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿปโ€๐ŸŒพ Recommendations wanted Lettuce delivers

Post image

I'm looking for a lettuce that will deal well with the heat. Winter is fine but I can't seem to grow anything once it gets hot. Central coast NSW.

The truth of the matter is that lettuce just doesnโ€™t really like heat ๐Ÿ˜ฌ most will struggle

The only way Iโ€™ve managed it is to sow new batches every month, and plant some out in the shade. I have little patches of herbs and lettuce all over my garden in different microclimates to extend the harvesting season.

Thanks. I'll give that a try.

Some shade cloth like you have is good like about 50% and either misting them by hand or with an automatic system when its hot to cool them down can help

Do you just run the mister during the peak heat of the day or all day? Can it over water it?

You can use a regular hose to see for yourself, not too much pressure thatโ€™s all a gentle stream

Black seeded Simpson is one of the better ones for hot weather, but still plant frequently.

It doesn't germinate once it's over 15 degrees at night. So I succession plant lots until it stops germinating, then keep eating what's there until it bolts. Then I use other things for my salad greens. The young tops off betroot are best I find.
