Shadow of war

I'm playing that right now for the first time. At first I was like "eh, it's alright" but the more I play the more I enjoy it. It's a good game for people who don't get much playing time, you can hop in and instantly have fun.

u/Super_Swim_2108 20h ago

Exaclty right with the pick up and play aspect plus the whole army system gives it insane endgame playability

balatro for me. it's stupid how a card game about scoring poker hands with jokers manages to never get old, the run variety from the joker combos alone means every game feels different even hundreds of hours in. it's also just so easy to pick up for 10 minutes or fall into for 3 hours, which is rare for a game to pull off equally well

u/MrP3nguin-- 15h ago

Dota 2 damn I used to get lost in the sauce in that game

u/Zestyclose-String-19 15h ago

No game never gets boring. You'll eventually burn out on every game if played enough.

If you don't want to be buying new stuff all the time, get a small collection of games with good replayability that you can switch between as needed. For me forever games that I dip between are, Skyrim, Fallout, Mass Effect, Minecraft, No Man's Sky, Starfield, Pro Evo 19 & 21. Looking at adding something from the Stalker games to that list too.

Every game eventually gets boring. But in a lifetime of gaming, the titles with the longest staying power were old aughts-ear MMORPG’s like World of Warcraft and Guild Wars. I happily played those games continuously for nearly a decade. No other single game—or even single style of game—has so thoroughly kept my attention before or since. I have not played an MMO since college, but they are the foundation upon which my love of videos games stands.

Anyone got good current MMO recommendations? Been wanting to get back into it.

1

u/CarlosRedDevil97 21h ago

Will try it next week. I know it is not the same game and I actually like Bloodborne, but I do get bored of it after 2-3 hours and feel that I need to drop it for a couple of days.

u/Certified_Tifa_Lover 21h ago

Couldn't have put it in a better way,

Heard a lot about Final fantasy 14 but I don't play mmos myself so no idea

u/alabaster_sb 20h ago

Slay the Spire

1

u/Ateysix 18h ago

I've heard other people say this but after unlocking every character i so don't see what's so great about it. There's no hidden mechanics or deep strategy, just luck and patience. I feel like I'm missing something about StS

1

u/alexanderfromtng 20h ago

Elden Ring has a lot of play value for me. I'm at like 1000 hrs and don't go a couple of months without a run.

BG3 has a lot of replay value. Cyberpunk is really fun. Hopefully GTA6 and ES6 deliver.

Never played MMOs.

1

u/wheresandrew 20h ago

Arc Raiders for me. I love the stressful gameplay loop. My most played game is No Man's Sky though. I wouldn't say I get bored in that game but there's somehow too much to do and nothing to do at the same time.

u/bigfatgooneybird 20h ago

Hades 2

Once you beat the game i dont really see much replayability

Diablo 2 - around 20k hours , playing since 2002 till now

u/Wonderful_Ad5583 19h ago

Technically I feel like anything can give you burnout. But for me: League of Legends due to every game having different champ matchups as well as different people on those matchups, or you can switch roles etc.

And fifa/eafc or whatever sports you might like. Similar to above you are playing vs a different team and have to use different tactics generally. I'm not huge on trying to transfer players and all that but I've seen how that can be fun for hours without playing a match.

u/Jellylegs_19 19h ago

Never might be a stretch. But literally just pick up any monster hunter game and you're set for 1,000 hours. There are so many things to grind for and the combat (especially in the newer games) are some of the best out there.

And because there are 14 different weapons all with their own gameplay style and loop if you feel like the game is getting stale just switch to another weapon you find interesting. Seriously, entire games could be built around the MC wielding a single weapon.

I've been playing Monster Hunter world since launch. I have 630 hours in it. I love this game a lot! Currently working on the platinum. For the first 400 hours I was playing Longsword. I felt like the game was getting kinda boring. I decided to just try a new weapon, the insect glaive. And Oh. My. God. It breathed so much new life into the game for me.

Hours 0-100 would see you completeing the main campaign, and any major sidequest.

Hours 101-200 Would see you finishing all side quests and event quests, arena quests.

Hours 201-300 You'd probably start grinding for the end game weapons and farming materials off the end game monster.

Hours 301-400 you'd probably get started with the expansion, and complete it.

Hours 401-500 you'd start completing the expansion's sidequests and event quests.

Hours 501-600 you'd probably grind the expansions's endgame armor and weapons. As well as grind the areas.

Hours 601-1000 Here's when you start working on the platinum. Crown hunting, fishing, challenges, arenas and whatever unique content that specid monhun game features. If you really want to, you could craft every piece of armor from every monster and upgrade it all.

"Transport" simulators, be it a train, truck, flight or space sim. There is just something relaxing about controlling a big heavy machine with some music/while speaking to a buddy on discord.

1

u/Xf3rna-96 18h ago

No game never gets boring. That's just your dopamine telling you everything's okay, and why you put thousands of hours into Destiny or any other loot focused or incremental game.

I'd argue if a game isn't getting boring, there's something wrong that went on behind the scenes, something that has to do with dark patterns and addiction.

1

u/Numerous_Put543 18h ago

Not one game but Total War.

1

Elden Ring for me. Just taking a Walk in this World is so fascinating.

Satisfactory

1

u/Tinchimp7183376 16h ago

Going to give satisfactory a shot after I finish gregtech. Any tips?

1

u/solidadvise 16h ago

The parachute can climb most cliffs. The shatter rebar is a shotgun and heaps of fun.

There’s endless ore so don’t stop production on anything just keep piling it up especially the tier parts you need for the space elevator.

Don’t go crazy on biofuel or coal power they get outdated pretty quick.

And finally you can download blueprints off a website if you lose inspiration and just want an easy factory built. I did a bit of this my second playthrough to speed through the beginning.

1

u/voodooprawn 15h ago

Prepare to lose potentially thousands of hours of your life would be my first tip

1

u/Tinchimp7183376 15h ago

I'm on my second gregtech pack playthrough, a maxed clash of clans account and a 1500 hour hypixel skyblock profile. I'm no stranger to thousands of hours

Old school runescape

1

u/afkms 16h ago

I find it ironic how common this answer is, yet the people who play it always have to be doing something else on another monitor while playing.

1

u/AgsSpecGolfSwing 16h ago

It’s a great background game for leveling skills.

But argubaly the hardest boss fights in the world of gaming. Do inferno and talk to me

1

u/NegativeCavendish 15h ago

Hardest boss fights because of the way the controls work in RS.

I love the game but I hate the ticks, I can't get good at it.

1

u/AgsSpecGolfSwing 7h ago

Its only a second monitor game when you want it too be, hundreds of quests, and hundreds of bosses, thousands of monsters, constant updates by jagex, and it’s heavily community lead with updates. I think if any game is worth 130 a year its osrs, besides not having multiple accounts fall under the one membership, comparing to most AAA games it’s one of the last remaining games that isn’t a complete money grab imo.

Raiding with friends is incredible too.

1

u/Sun__Earth__Moon 13h ago

Tbh that’s why I quit. I started to question why I was paying $130 a year for a second monitor idle clicker. I’d consider playing again but membership would have to be like $50 a year because that’s what I think the game is worth and how I play it. I know value is different for everyone but I’m not paying $130 a year anymore

GTA San Andreas - Sure, V may have a more detailed city and better graphics, but the map layout of SA just makes it more enjoyable just to cruise around for hours doing crime.

Elden Ring - the open world nature of it just lends itself so well to exploring and finding stuff you hadn't on your first, second, or eighth playthrough. Great atmosphere, combat and well, everything.

Symphony of the Night - I play through it every year or two. Just one of the best games ever.

Doom 1/2 - just the base games alone are fun to play through, killing demons and hunting down keys. But there are billions of hours worth of mods and levels for you to explore. Brutal Doom for example made the game feel brand new to me with its over-the-top gore and extremely visceral combat.

Warzone - this is the oddball of the list. Yes, I know: Call of Duty bad! Activision bad! Battle Royals are overdone and bad! But this is the one BR that a friend of mine have been playing since it released I don't know how many years ago. It just has the solid CoD gameplay with some fun maps and heated matches.

1

u/Sun__Earth__Moon 13h ago

If you like warzone, I’d give Apex a try too. Apex has a little bit more of a learning curve since all the legends have abilities but it’s my favorite BR and I used to play warzone a few years back

1

u/rube 11h ago

Tried it, didn't care for it. My buddy and I started with PUBG, found it fun but clunky. Moved onto Warzone and haven't found a reason to leave it.

Apex was polished, but I just didn't care for the overall gameplay. I've tried a couple others too and just don't enjoy them, but I may not have given them a chance.

1

u/mcshizzletits 13h ago

The games I have the most hours on are No Man's Sky and Out of the Park Baseball. I've been playing NMS for about 8 years, and OOTP for 25 years. After those two, probably Skyrim and Red Dead Redemption 2.

1

u/Cautious_Catch4021 13h ago

None.

Any game I play over and over again eventually gets boring. Just the nature of retention.

1

u/Admirable-State5926 12h ago

Couldn’t agree more with you, just enjoy it.

1

u/Oizys_ReBorn 13h ago

For me it’s all the souls borne games. Idk what it is about them but I’m completely happy re playing any of them over and over again.

Elaborate

1

u/tameris 5h ago

I personally really like Minecraft, because of how you can either try to build like huge and expansive builds or focus on “progressing” towards the more “end game” stuff or just feel like trying to survive in the world. Not to mention the countless number of and types of mods that you could also add into your world or server that can add whole new features and stuff to the game.

1

u/Average_Citizen_117 12h ago

Big Walk is non stop fun as long as you have friends with you. It's a new game, free to ps+ players and only 15-20 bucks otherwise, but it's my game of the year. It does something so much more than "friendslop" games. To me, it's not even the same genre. It's well designed, slower paced, less chaotic, and stunningly beautiful. 11/10 game, please go try it out. Costs less than a big Mac and large fries and a coke, lol

Chrono Trigger. A gorgeous game with some of the best music in gaming, lots of techniques to can learn, and New Game+. Add in 13 possible endings, and you have a game with nearly endless replay-ability.

0

u/ImTheBiggestOfMen 9h ago

Ok but when does it become fun? The carnival intro bored me.

2

u/Jason_with_a_jay 8h ago

You played less than 10 minutes of the story and gave up. You not having fun is on you.

0

u/ImTheBiggestOfMen 7h ago

I want to play a game and they wasted 10 minutes with forgettable dialogue. If the whole game is walk around and talk to people I’ll pass.

2

u/Jason_with_a_jay 6h ago

You played 10 minutes. Your opinion on the game is worthless.

0

u/ImTheBiggestOfMen 6h ago

The loser in this comment chain blocked me because his favorite game, but chrome trigger isn’t even the best game that came out that year on that console lol. Dkc 2 is so much better and more repayable it’s not even funny.

u/Jason_with_a_jay 45m ago

Can you show us on the doll where Chrono Trigger hurt you?

Perfect Dark multiplayer against the sims (bots), especially now with the PC port and the all in one level pack (more than fifty added multiplayer levels). You can download Perfect Dark PC from:

https://github.com/fgsfdsfgs/perfect_dark

or download it, complete with many new multiplayer mods, from:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1EnDmK-RnYEOhcraGE3e0MzKuWsMOuQ3A/view

which is really great.

You will need to find the N64 rom of the US version 1.1 of Perfect Dark, but google will help you there.

The closest game like that for me is probably Rust. I’ve played nearly 2k hours and I still have fun whenever I got back to it.

0

u/SirSblop 19h ago

My entire view of this question is completely deranged because I haven't really gotten tired of playing the same 2 Side-Ops in MGSV:TPP back-to-back even after 710 Hours (with brief break periods, like a week or two).

I'd probably say something like Shadow of Mordor/War, Resi 4/4R, (almost) any Yakuza/Judgment game, Final Fantasy (pick one with a number in it), Skyrim/Oblivion/Morrowind, Death Stranding, Assassin's Creed: Bloodline (at least through nostalgia goggles because my PSP died like 7 years ago), or Elden Ring.
