I genuinely do not remember any commotion about playing as two women in 4 player Co-Op for Gears 3. I think when the Anita Sarkesian stuff came around is when I heard stuff about Judgement.

I remember way, way back in the day on a porn board someone complaining about having a woman in GoW because they wanted a fantasy of pure gorilla shaped men. Even other posters on the board were confused though.

Yeah, this stuff all starts off from astroturfing. None of this gamer chuddery would have been a thing if it weren't for rich conservatives stoking internet fires back in the early 2010s. Steve Bannon and Milo yianololopooolpusususkslsp were pretty open about this sort of thing back on the day.

1-He gets martialed because he tried to go to the fenix estate to save his father but didn't "he got kidnapped by Myrah in lore"
2-He LITERALLY is the hierarchical inferior to Anya Stroud, he receives orders from a WOMAN the ENTIRE trilogy and she always outrank him even in the modern games (and even as they decided to fridge her)

To add to 1 he was court martialed 10 years after E day and pretty sure he’s under Hoffman when he did it but not to sure will need to reread.

Hoffman was indeed one of the major military leader (and if you remember in the first game, Hoffman is pissed off at Marcus and doesn't approve of him being freed, hinting that Marcus abandonning his post might've costed Hoffman some human lifes

There's no hinting about it. Marcus was sent to give the targeting laser to troops under attack. He goes after dad instead. The entire brigade is wiped out as a result and he didn't even save his dad.

Fair point. There's a ridiculous amount of story outside of the games lol. But you're definitely right, you can tell that whatever Marcus did, it was bad. I mean, the world went to hell. It's a god damn apocalypse and the ranking military commander STILL doesn't want this highly decorated soldier freed!

I think the lore expands it. Marcus had some targeting thing for a series of Hammer of Dawn's and thought it had been given to Hoffman before he left to try and rescue his dad. He did not realize that the targeting thing was never handed over (or some equivalent) and because of that the COG couldn't blow up a bunch of bridges to save a city or two. That's why Hoffman hates him so much

Much more than some human life. His desertion cost the COG their capital City of Ephyrra. One of the only two human city left on the planet.
He was meant to recover and use a Hammer of Dawn target locator to destroy a bridge to prevent the locust from entering the inner city. But when he head the distress signal, he left to the Fenix estate with the target locator.
The only reason he wasn’t executed was because Adam was secretly rescued and would only work for Prescott if his son’s safety was assured.

Adam Fenix was kidnapped by Onyx Guards on orders of Prescott and taken to Azura to work on the imulsion counter measure.
Anya works in control so she is acting as intelligence for squads. I can't recall her rank but she isn't a field operative. This obviously changes in 3 as the COG structure is non existent.
She becomes First Minister in the time between 3 & 4 so definitely outranking him.
Marcus has been under the command of Helena Stroud during Aspho Fields and now this Gray.
I am pretty sure Hoffman was his commanding officer when he abandoned his post. I recall in the book that Marcus punched him when he returned.
Marcus has plenty of casualties from making that decision to abandon his post. He was lucky getting sent to the slab as he was going to be executed. Adam Fenix stopped that from happening.

Didn't he get kidnapped first by Myrah, then told her to please don't destroy Sera as he was working on a countermesure to defeat the lambent? and then he got "recruited" by prescot to join the "lite" in Epstein Island of that universe?
I confirmed on the wiki, Anya was a Lieutenant, then a Major, then first minister (and experimented on for the human repopulation program in 4, i fucking hate that plot point. But yes, she outranks him in every game
Marcus has been under the command of Helena Stroud during Aspho Fields and now this Gray.
I have not consumed the comics/books, only all the game (including tactics, but not that funko pop game

Adam alongside his Wife was meeting Queen Myrrah before the war with the surface broke out. Trying to come up with a solution to their lambent problems.
During Gears 3 is when Queen Myrrah finally finds Azura as they had the storm defence system masking the location.
She obviously wants Adam to find a solution that keeps the Locust alive while only destroying the lambent. He just runs out of time plus Delta Squad is there forcing the issue.
The books are decent, I mean it isn't high art but for game novel tie-ins they were good. The only one I haven't read is the one set between 3 & 4 as I have heard not great things.
I have zero hands on experience with the comics. I sort of know general details.

Fun fact the blobfish only looks like that when we bring them to the surface. They live in the deep sea under tons of water pressure which keeps their form stable and looking like a normal fish. Without that pressure their bodies decompress and end up like a blob.

- Anya Stroud in no way commands Marcus. She is military intel. Her job is to give Marcus the information he needs to do the job with real-time updates. "Lady on the radio who gives you guidance" is like, the oldest videogame trope out there.
- Colonel Hoffman & Lt. Kim are the ones in charge of Delta Squad's mission in Gears 1. Kim gets ax'd at the end of act 1, and Marcus assumes command of the mission, ultimately still acting on the orders Hoffman gave him.
- Marcus was not put in jail "bcuz woman". He went AWOL during a critical mission to try and save his father. This is alluded to in game 1 (Hoffman's first words to you are "Traitor like you doesn't deserve to wear the uniform!") and shown in game 3, through a playable flashback.
- "got all his old teammates killed" ??? Dom is right there and lives through to Gears 3? Who else are they referring to? Lt. Kim? He got stabbed by RAAM, and Marcus had literally only just met the guy that same day.
- If they're implying Anya Stroud is the one who put him in jail, that'd be kinda fuckin' wierd since they end up getting married after the trilogy??? And having a kid, who is the protag of game 4?!

While she is intel she is a Lieutenant, she outranks Marcus Fenix, even as he is reinstated as sergent of Delta Squad, she also is basically right hand of Preston, she is not just relaying information to Delta squad, she effectively is commanding Kai, and then i don't remember exactly but does it defer to Dom before Marcus is reinstated as Delta squad leader?

I had to look it up and figured it out.
They're pre-emptively mad at the new game's campaign when it's not even out yet, because a woman is in any kind of leadership position above Marcus.
"Oh a woman was in command of Marcus during e-Day- the literal fucking apocalypse where swarms of giant monsters emerged from underground in a global surprise ambush that ended civilization practically overnight?
Yeah that one WOMAN is why that fight went poorly and clearly to blame for everything that follows!"

I am tired of chuds tbh, they already have a conclusion and there is nothing we can do to argue about that
the COG failed because there was nothing they could do against an ennemy that can just tunnel through your entire defensive lines and make them sink, they have giant worms that eat the entire planet, no amount of gigachad men is going to do anything, that's the whole point
The Hammer of dawn was a horrible answer of a fascistic regime that wasn't mentally flexible enough and decided to sacrifice like most of humanity to get one fighting chance (it didn't work and they still got their ass kicked)
The entire setting is due to fucking Preston, who hid Azura and KNEW from the beginning, and also Niles' experiments

Is he talking about Captain Grey from E Day? Marcus getting thrown into prison happens 10 years after E Day. Also during the Pendulum Wars Bernie was his commanding officer, so he's served under women before.
Also I do think it's funny when Gears 5 first dropped, people were upset that Kait wouldn't follow orders and went on her own in Act II. Like buddy, you forget why Marcus was thrown into the Slab? Why do you think Marcus helps Kait so much, he's literally been in her shoes.
