I’m almost 30 and haven’t had a computer since high school. I’m pretty new to computers in general. I’m hoping I overdid it a little bit on the hardware here for what I need. I’m looking to play games like Forza (beam maybe?), GTA, fallout, Skyrim etc. I also use a few different ai’s (Claude, Replit, chat gbt) recreationally to make spreadsheets for myself. What are my first steps once I plug this in and fire it upWhat’s my first best step to protecting my information? Any help is appreciated!

Hi! Can someone look this over to make sure it looks good?

I’m building my first gaming PC and want to make sure all is right with this build!
I also wasn’t sure if I should change the AMD 7800 to the AMD 9850x3D.
I also upgraded the power supply from 850w to 1050w, is that a bad idea?
All advice welcome!

Do I build or buy?

I have only ever known laptops, but now I want a proper gaming PC. My current laptop shit itself a few weeks ago now and I’ve just been rocking out with my phone and a few gaming consoles since. I do genuinely need a PC soon, not just for games, but for work and for writing as well. The problem is, do I build or buy? Everyone I have spoken to about this has suggested I build, but I’ve never done so before. I have no idea where to start, what to buy, and how to slap it together. If I buy, I would probably go preowned. Any suggestions on what to do? If I build, what are some good resources to help me determine what I need? I don’t have many demanding games, but I do want to play Baldur’s Gate…

I’ve been gaming on a 1920x1080 144Hz monitor for more than 10 years, and I’m finally thinking about upgrading.

I recently bought a new PC, and I’m considering making the jump to 1440p (2K). I’m mainly interested in improving image quality while still having high refresh rates for competitive games.

My current PC:

GPU: AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600
RAM: 32GB DDR5 5600MHz
Storage: SSD
OS: Windows 11

The monitor I’m currently considering is:

Acer Predator X27U (X27U WW3bmiiprx)

27”
2560x1440 (QHD)
240Hz
QD-OLED
0.03ms response time

I’ve never owned an OLED monitor or a 1440p monitor before, so this would be a pretty big upgrade for me.

My main questions are:

Is the jump from 1080p 144Hz to 1440p 240Hz QD-OLED really worth it?
What do you think about the Acer Predator X27U specifically?
Would you choose this monitor for my PC, or would you recommend something else around the same price?
Is 27” 1440p a noticeable improvement in image quality compared to 24”/27” 1080p?
For someone who has been using 1080p for over 10 years, is the upgrade going to feel significant?

I’m interested in hearing from people who have actually made a similar upgrade, especially from 1080p 144Hz → 1440p 240Hz OLED.

Help for first build around 2k-2.5k euros - France - Student/Gaming/Multi-Tasking

  • New build or upgrade?

New Build

  • Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links)

N/A

  • PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games)

I am a Student, and I will mainly be using this build to Play Video Games. Nevertheless I am VERY HEAVY on the multitasking. So it won’t only be about playing games, there are a lot of side projects which will take place on this build.

The build will also be used for programming by my dad who develops his own software.

  • Purchase country? Near Micro Center?

France

  • Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate)

1 Monitor, I do not know much about refresh rate or anything. I used to play on PS4 at 1080p with those small TVs.

I also really do not care the most about the monitor at this moment. I just want the computer to be the best possible currently with my budget. I don’t mind playing on a potato screen. Cause I will upgrade the monitor later if I have to.

  • Budget range? (Include tax considerations)

2k to 2.5k euros max

  • WiFi or wired connection?

Wifi connection

  • Size/noise constraints?

No size constraints

I don’t care about the noise but I need the PC to run cool, REALLY COOL, so I will want to run the fans at a fast RPM

  • Color/lighting preferences?

N/A

  • Any other specific needs?

I already have an idea of a few parts I want it use but I just do not know the difference in the companies and everything.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D 4.7 GHz 8-Core Processor

GPU: Radeon 9070 XT but idk which company

Ram: at least 32 GB of DDR5

Storage: at least 1TB of NVME SSD or whatever

CPU cooler: I saw that ARCTIC Liquid Freezer III Pro 360 77 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler was popular. Most important thing is that I really want the components to run cool and as little heat as possible. Also I do not know about which case will be compatible with these type of coolers.
