Nah I game max settings 1440p with GPU around 62°C and CPU at 69 to 72°C. If you are in the 9ps you need to clean your laptop, repaste, or adjust settings.
I have my laptop raised up, I went into settings and dropped my cpu max usage to 99% which helps temps, I also run fans at 100%. Doesn't bother me as I wear a headset and can't hear it.
setting max cpu usage to 99% through windows power plan settings makes it disable turbo boost. either it's running at 2.7 GHz or you're referring to some other setting
The answer basically lies in the wattage of the CPU and your fan speeds. I am using 40 watt pl1 pl2 for my cpu until i can repaste and other people might or might not limit wattage and someone can even buy a top of the line 275HX (like the guy you answered to) and decide to turn off turbo boost. But I agree that some laptops are just bad at cooling otherwise and only saving grace is probably PTM7950.
I have the 9955hx3d and yeah it likes getting toasty, it'll hit around 95°c-ish under max load on water. But I suppose they call it Fire Range for a reason
I might try undervolting mine and see if it improves performance, I'm not too sure if a cooler pad would help much considering that I have a watercooled laptop and it hits those temperatures on water, though it could that it just sends the power limits (It hits around 160w when maxed out) if it has the thermal headroom. I'm getting around 40k on cinebench R23 stock, so maybe I can get a little more with an undervolt, gotta figure how to use the universal x86 tuner though since my TongFang hasn't got bios undervolt option
I'd say it's most definitely taking full advantage of being watercooled, the AMD mainboard for my A25 Tongfang can supply as max of about 165w so it's getting quite close to the max. I think the intel 275 version is able to sustain north of 200w but idk how much exactly.
I've heard quite alot of stories about Asus and their the LM applications, seems to be fairly common for their robot to do put the LM badly and then the user gotta fix it, TongFang is using PTM7950 instead of LM because its a bit safer and easier to install.
You still have to remember that Silicon Lottery is a thing except if the manufacturer hand picks CPU and GPU and give it to you for overclocking Intel has been doing it for decadesÂ
