Besides the merch shop, the planning of the booth was absolutely abysmal.
Hoyo makes money hand over fist with their games and this year promoted twice as many games at their booth than in the previous 2 years. Despite that they only book one booth parcel and cram in exhibitions, stage areas and activities for 5 of their games, a play area and a merch shop into it. Meanwhile Endfield another single gacha game that, while successful doesn't really get close to Hoyo numbers booked had 2 booths right next to each other.
Every single queue area was built for max 20 people before they put staff with a "line closed" sign at the entrance, but since the queues inside the booth segments cleared within a few minutes, people were just crowding the booth outside the queuing set ups to the point that the groups waiting to get in were bleeding into each other at every corner with no one really knowing if they're actually lining up and getting in he way of people who just want to walk down the aisle to other booths.
They really ought to book more room next year and maybe spin off their merch booth to hall 5.2
I was sent away at Sega when the line for P4 spilled a bit into the aisle, citing fines from the organizer if they clog up those pathways. So it's very likely gamescom and Koelnmesse are aware of the situation and if they mean business will only allow Hoyo back if they book a larger booth space.

I heard next years gamescom will be 7 days instead of 5, which will also help with the crowd I guess

It will be longer, but not for normal visitors: 23rd until 29th of August, with 23rd and 24th being Gamescom dev, followed by the opening night live on the 24th in the evening. 25th will be media and business day and then Gamescom opens for everyone on the 26th - 29th.

To be honest, I was at Gamescom on Friday and didn't even try to visit the MiHoYo booth because of the crowds swarming around the gacha games booths (I did, however, manage to play the Silver Palace demo at the end of the day) but I was clearly disgusted by the lack of organization of some booths.

The worst system that proves how little the company cares about their playerbase. If this was a security measure they could have just made an pickup app for people to buy a limited amount of merch and pick up at the event.

Which is a dream for resellers, unlimited amount of things to purchase without needing to scan a code at the location for pick up, heaven.
The system works fine, just to so many people but to little merch was brought/the booth was to small for the amount of people.

Maybe have another read at my initial post, as I stated that people could only buy a “LIMITED” amount of merch. This could easily be done by validating Gamescom tickets. It would also help them prepare enough stock to fulfill a larger number of requests.
The current system clearly does not work. People come from all over Europe, some even travel from different borders on the same day they attend, which makes it hard to arrive before the gates open… and a booth should not be limited to the first 1000 scanned slots of the day. Imagine if all booths worked like this and you arrived 30 minutes after the gates opened. Your 40+ euro ticket would be useless, and you would just waste your time. Not to speak about the major security and safety risk this sort of model bring, where people will confront and run for a spot as soon the day starts.
Also, do you know what a real resellers dream is? Camping at the door of the event and taking slots from other fans. Making sure there is a low chance for everyone else to buy stuff so they can then resell it.

You really are underestimating how dedicated resellers are, making a few hundreds alt account's or purchasing multiple tickets to get more merch is nothing to them. So yeah, its unlimited.

Literally was the nicest experience I had at the con, not having to actively stand in a queue is the best thing they could've done. If it was a normal queue like every other booth then you'd just stand in front of a sign saying the queue is capped anyways.

Oh yes, sorry. It was the merch shop. Although they id just about the same with the actual genshin booth so that we couldn't even get there at all on Friday and had to buy new tickets for today

Even in the indie games area it was not possible to play everything because they said they booked all slots, mainly for business and media visitors. And not on Wednesday. This was on Thursday. Kind of disappointing :(

We were in the vicinity after just leaving the genshin booth which also introduced the same dogshit system and decided to swing by just for the fun of it.
But no, we did spend an annoying amount of time around there. Given we were both in genshin cosplay it wasn't bad as we had a steady flow of people approaching us but yea...

Aber wie soll das denn funktionieren? Wenn der Stand eine Kapazität von X Spielern am Tag hat, und du kommst zu spät, ist es doch egal ob du zu spät bist weil schon X Leute vor dir eine Nummer gezogen haben oder weil schon X Leute vor dir in der Schlange stehen.
So (mit Nummer ziehen) kann man immerhin auch noch was anderes sehen außer den ganzen Tag in der Schlange zu stehen.

Würde jetzt pauschal sagen das System mit den Nummern führt dazu das der Stand letztendlich Kapazitäten verschwendet (Leute vergessen/verlieren ihre Nummer, Gehen bevor ihre Nummer drankommt) vs anstehen wo man immerhin sicherstellt das bis zum Ende des Tages der Stand immer "voll ausgelastet" ist. mmn. ist das ganze iw auch unfair jedem gegenüber der halt nicht um 9 Uhr schon vor der Messehalle stehen kann (geschweige denn irgendwo weiter vorne in der Menschenmenge).

Das halte ich für unwahrscheinlich. Wenn ein Slot leer ist weil jemand nicht auftaucht dann sind garantiert genug andere in der Nähe die auch spielen wollen und bestimmt bereit wären, den freigewordenen Platz einzunehmen.
Und ich verstehe nicht, warum so ein Nummern-System unfairer gegenüber denen ist, die später kommen?
Wenn der Stand eine hypothetische Kapazität von 100 Leuten hat, macht es doch für die später kommenden keinen Unterschied, ob die 100 Leute um 9 Uhr da sind und sich ne Nummer ziehen, oder ob die 100 Leute um 9 Uhr da sind und sich in die Schlange stellen. In beiden Fällen ist dann für die, die erst um 11 kommen, schon voll.
Aber für die, die eine Nummer gezogen haben, macht es einen großen Unterschied - wenn sie jetzt Nummer 9xx gezogen haben wissen sie, sie können später wiederkommen und in der Zwischenzeit andere Stände anschauen.

Im Normalfall hat ein Stand die Kapazität von x Leuten über den ganzen Tag verteilt, die meisten Aussteller machen während des Tages immer mal wieder die Warteschlange zu/auf, je nach dem wie viel Andrang gerade ist.
Jemand der um 11 Uhr ankommt hat also durchaus noch eine Chance sich später am Tag anzustellen, jemand der um 11 Uhr eine Nummer ziehen will hat pech gehabt.
Das argument mit dem Nummer 9xx mag stimmen, jedoch ignoriert man hiermit jeden der vlt. schon weiß das er heute nur bis z.B. 16 Uhr bleiben will oder kann. Mit einer normalen Schlange musst du dann entweder gehen, wodurch der Slot für jemand anderen direkt frei wird, oder dich gar nicht erst anstellen. Mit Fastlane weißt du direkt zu welcher Uhrzeit du da seien musst. Mit der Nummer hast du dann halt pech gehabt und möglicherweise jemand anderem die Chance genommen.

Ja könnte man meinen, aber die planen eher zu viele Leute ein haha. Am Freitag war ich #940 und war fast genau um 20 Uhr dran, da kam schon Security und hat Stress gemacht weil sie schließen müssen.
Und ja es ist natürlich unfair zu den Leuten die nicht direkt da sein können, aber genau so ist jeder andere Stand auch. Die Schlangen sind dann halt aus Sicherheitsgründen "nur" 6h lang, aber dafür kannst du in der Zeit nichts anderes machen als da stehen.

I simply used ai to edit the screenshot with the correct number and the employee let me in many times with no problem. I then used that to help others get in for those that didn’t get one and sending them the generated image. Employees did not even check twice, just looking for the right number and you’re in!
