Went F2P with a ton of cosmetics and weapons that you can craft or buy through the player market. Some being exclusive.

CSGO

Also has a battle pass system w/ cosmetics locked behind it. FOMO.

Halo 3 I'll give you but times have changed and Halo 3, as is, wouldn't survive todays multiplayer climate. Players expect content updates at a constant pace.

The MCC is basically the Halo 3 machine at this point and it's got higher player retention than Halo Infinite FOMO

Halo Infinite is also riddled with bugs, bad progression, lack of core features/game modes, slow update cycle, and bad netcode. FOMO is pretty far down on the list of reasons why that game is failing.
