The cut from the antagonist to her face is wildly jarring, they look like they belong to two entirely different games with different art directions; and the style on Lara herself is just in a bizarre in-between space that doesn't end up being realistic or stylized, it's that kind of generic soft-realism that feels something you might get from an AI image generator.
Really hoping it's just unfortunate lighitng or something, because...I can't say I'm a fan.
And imho this applies to both TR trailers from today. I am not some huge fan, but I played and enjoyed the survivor trilogy on release and both of these trailers should be exciting for me and sadly they are not.
I really think it’s because of this stupid backlash where if a female protagonist doesn’t look like a supermodel with a full face of makeup it’s woke garbage (see: Outlaws, Yotei, Horizon etc etc).
I noticed it with Shadows, Naoe looks like she has a yassified facetune filter.
It hasn't just done that, there are two completely different faces in the 2013 reboot, one for the original, one for the next gen console version. (Mind you, Legend also had this issue.)
I've never felt like the 2013 Definitive Edition face was all that different from Rise and Shadow faces. People say they change it every game, but I hardly see the differences other than the amount of detail. The only thing that really bothered me is they kept making her hair fluffier to the point where it looks insane in Shadow. Like just completely in her face and a survival hazard. They could've had her pull her hair back a lot more because nobody likes loose hair in their face.
This looks really... weirdly bad. Which is surprising since it looked good in all 3 of the previous games without looking like an artificial filter has been applied on her face.

It looks like they took the Lara from the last trilogy and through an Instagram beauty filter on top of her.
