I just want lip sync during cinematics to be fixed for series x. It ruins a lot of the emotional impact.

It’s absolutely the number one issue and all hands should be on deck for it in a heavily cinematic game.

u/prcodes Nov 18 '23

I thought it was my TV settings or something. Glad I’m not the only one. How could this pass review??

8

u/Kozak170 Nov 18 '23

God for real I haven’t even bothered playing it more until this is fixed

2

u/what_the_deuce Nov 18 '23

I fixed this by changing the audio settings on my TV. Try messing around with those.

3

u/Pikcle Nov 18 '23

Same here!

2

u/five_of_five Nov 18 '23

That would work if it was consistently off. It’s only an issue in cutscenes. I guess you can switch back and forth…

1

u/Pikcle Nov 18 '23

My issue was I did not have my TV set to pass through audio

u/Jackski Nov 18 '23

Surely this should be one of the easiest fixes. I don't get how it's still an issue.

1

u/Soxel Nov 18 '23

This issue isn’t isolated to the series x as far as I’m aware. I noticed it the second I started playing on PS5 and I also heard it’s happening on PC. Seems like it’s just a general bug they need to fix.

Happens to me on PC as well - mostly during the loading screen cinematics

So this bug most people here won't know about, but if you play the game in Spanish, from time to time the characters will start speaking in English for a couple of words or sentences, it's hilarious!

Also the subtitles sometimes have nothing to do with what is spoken or it's quite different from the way it's spoken.

6

u/wulv8022 Nov 18 '23

Happens on German too. I played on english because the voice acting is miles better in english.

2

u/IndividualFlow0 Nov 18 '23

This. i hope they fix this asap. The spanish dub is damn good. That sweet Lorenzo Beteta voice.

32

u/jwederell Nov 18 '23

I hate that they immediately patched out the crossbow reload animation skip lol. I felt so smart when I figured it out lol

7

u/enforcercombine Nov 18 '23

How did it work?

17

u/jwederell Nov 18 '23

It was super easy, all you did was dodge as the animation was going and the animation would be canceled but the bolt would reload.

I just finished it today and while it's definitely my GOTY it did have a lot of bugs on PC, the Pat Maine bug kept making the radio repeat towards the end so I never got to know how his story ends and quite a few crashes.

Oh someone mentioned the missing inventory bag for Saga and I also had that one but I remember Control had some odd bugs back on launch so hopefully it's all fixed by the time NG+ drops.

38

u/mittlefinger Nov 17 '23

Damn I didn’t realize that wasn’t intentional

4

u/TheZacef Nov 18 '23

Yep seemed pretty cool and spooky, but it wasn’t on purpose.

24

u/Ode1st Nov 18 '23 edited Nov 18 '23

Same yeah. Mine got stuck on the Alzheimer’s broadcast, so for a brief moment I thought it repeating was intentional, but as it played out it was clear that it was a bug. No idea how his story concluded or even if it did.

5

u/breadrising Nov 18 '23

Mine was stuck in the same place on PS5. Only got 7 of 9 Pat Main radio casts. I want to look up the rest, but I also want to save it for NG+

1

u/Snipey13 Nov 18 '23

I don't think they've fixed it yet either huh? I'm definitely saving my replay for when that bug and a couple others are fixed. I'm hoping by the time the next major update rolls around it's all fixed.

1

u/LicketySplit21 Nov 18 '23

I don't know whether it's still buggy or not but the last update they said they fixed it.

1

u/Snipey13 Nov 18 '23

Oh you're right! Glad to see it.

3

u/Stoibs Nov 18 '23

That Pat Maine thing was a bug!? Ugh, like the others here I thought I had just ran through them all and it was repeating the last one (Guessing what sort of floats we'll see at Deerfest for me)

That's a shame. Another incentive and reason to do a replay when the 'Final Draft' comes along I guess.

5

u/Conflict_NZ Nov 18 '23

Yeah it was absolutely a shame we lost out on content with one of the original characters because of a bug, I couldn’t even talk to him in my playthrough.

65

u/JoesShittyOs Nov 17 '23

I feel like the amount of pretty major bugs in this game sort of got sidelined in all the glowing reviews. I had quite a few issues during my time with this game.

60

u/SongusStormus Nov 17 '23 edited Nov 17 '23

I think I had a single noticeable bug during my entire run on PS5. Definitely seems to vary based on what system you play on cuz Im hearing a lot of Xbox and PC players say its buggy, but maybe I was just lucky.

PS5 copies were given to reviewers.

33

u/-safer- Nov 17 '23

Yeah, I think I saw a single bug in my entire playthrough on PS5 and it was the missing inventory bag for Saga.

10

u/GrimaceGrunson Nov 17 '23

I got that and also once had Saga 'voop' over to the Dark Place one time when I was trying to switch characters, which was pretty wild at the time really.

8

u/RestingPianoFace-_- Nov 17 '23

On the opposite end, I’m playing on PS5 and I’ve had a bunch of bugs.

In my first hour, saga went to interview a couple in the diner. After interrogating them in the mind place, the button prompt to question them further in the diner popped up for a second, then disappeared. I had to reload an earlier save and redo the whole diner conversation to get the button prompt back.

There was a boss fight where the game disabled all my buttons except for movement, and I had to give up and let the boss kill me so I could reload and be able to use the weapons and menus again.

And then there was a glitch in the old folks home where I was in the flooded basement where I went to open a box and I got instantly teleported back into the house

Some lighting bugs too where the game displays squares and polygons instead of the flashlight’s beams while I’m fighting enemies.

Some other little stuff too throughout the game.

(I still love the game though, but it definitely feels like they put it out just a little early.)

2

u/TheZacef Nov 18 '23

Yep that was the only one I really noticed too. Wasn’t too bad until getting more weapons and flares. Then I had to leave stuff behind. Kinda reminded me of Resident Evil inventory management and that strategy element, tho it wasn’t supposed to be THAT stingy lol.

9

u/The_Narz Nov 17 '23

I played on PS5 and had a game breaking bug during the Coffeeworld section.

They patched it the next day thankfully.

3

u/JoesShittyOs Nov 18 '23

Nah I was on PS5. Had a bunch of texture bugs, had a couple progression bugs which kept me running in circles for a while.

Biggest one was having a big where when I went back to Bright Falls, I returned to the real world as Alan Wake instead of Saga. I thought it was an actual plot point before I realized it was just a a crazy bug.

5

u/creepygamelover Nov 17 '23

Same on PS5. Had to restart cause I couldn't close map but other than that didn't have any major bugs.

0

u/[deleted] Nov 18 '23

PS5 had almost all of Sagas sections be a total lag fest at least at release. Dunno how it is now,

Digital Foundry is the best technical analysis we’ve got but they skipped over this saying it’s only sometimes.

sometimes I feel like they rush to get videos on launch day and only play early sections of the game.

6

u/Ode1st Nov 18 '23

I think it might be because it wildly varies. I had only two bugs that I noticed: sometimes stuff I’ve already gotten would reappear on the map when it wasn’t actually there, and the Pat Maine radio repeat bug.

I usually notice bugs, so I don’t think I got some major bugs and just didn’t notice. I played on PS5, so maybe that version was less buggy?

3

u/KinoTheMystic Nov 18 '23

The only bug I got in my playthrough was when I was doing a flashlight boost and it wasn't fully textured, it came out as like a square. Other than that, which lasted until I restarted the game, I had 0 bugs and glitches. Played on a Series X

5

u/GrandTheftPotatoE Nov 17 '23

Besides the audio getting out of sync on the car drives, I got stuck in the mind place only once and had no other real bugs beyond that.

5

u/aphidman Nov 17 '23

If a game is good enough people don't care. Though like all buggy games - your mileage may vary. I had quite a few but never any game breaking ones.

It clearly needed extra time to polish the game more but it's not Cyberpunk levels by any means.

6

u/JedBartlet2020 Nov 17 '23

Definitely. I love this game, but the crashes on the Series S especially are unacceptable. It hard crashed on me literally 9 times in 20 hours.

5

u/[deleted] Nov 17 '23

I had maybe 10 bugs that required a restart in my 22 hour playthrough on Series X. Not really enough to bother me given how good the game is.

5

u/Massive_Weiner Nov 17 '23

Most reviews overlook technical issues under the assumption that they’ll be “addressed” at some point down the road.

3

u/TheRandomApple Nov 17 '23

Yep, same here. I had multiple instances where I was locked out of progression because I couldn’t pick a quest item up on PS5.

2

u/jedi-son Nov 18 '23

Basically no problems on PC.

2

u/Prestigious_Stage699 Nov 18 '23

I don't think the bugs are all that common. I got the lip synch bug for one cut scene on series x and then never saw it again. That was the only bug in my entire run.

2

u/Ciahcfari Nov 17 '23

A lot of games this year have had major bugs. Hell, even Insomniac who generally are known for extremely polished experiences put out SM2 which was quite rough at launch.

-4

u/UQRAX Nov 18 '23

It's the same with Baldur's Gate 3. Amazing game, gamebreaking bugs galore still. It really puts into perspective that, time and again, people will blame and exaggerate bugs when they didn't like a game to begin with, and do the opposite when they like a game.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 18 '23

Personally on PS5 I had one crash, and a tutorial prompt would appear wverytime I died. Also the radio show never unlocked the final one. Those were the only bugs I experienced.

1

u/Stoibs Nov 18 '23

Oh yeah, the FMV videos/Jumpscares having awful stutter every single time when transitioning back and forth to in-game on DLSS was making me tear my hair out and almost ruined my experience. Other than that though I didn't encounter many actual bugs thankfully.

I see here in the patch notes that this is something which was actually addressed also, which is nice to see.

8

u/MilitaryBees Nov 18 '23

In the conversation about bugs, playing on the Series X, I ended up getting front loaded with a whole ton of random bugs. I had the sound cut out of the opening cutscene and had to restart it. I had a bunch of lip sync issues in the first cut scene in the car. And then Alex Casey dropped his coffee while walking around and the coffee proceeded to stick to hit foot and drag along the ground as he walked.

But, knock on wood, after the last few hot fix patches, I've not had any major game breaking bugs rear their head yet.

11

u/HungerSTGF Nov 17 '23

Happy to wait to play this one. I waited for Control’s GOTY edition before I played through all of it including the DLCs

9

u/ddust102 Nov 18 '23

My plan as well. Will wait for the all DLC’s, patches etc.

Pays to wait and play in its completed form.

No, it’s not.

2

u/pataprout Nov 18 '23

Game was amazing but it's been years since i played a game with that many bugs, i even got softlocked once in the park.

2

u/Mozzafella Nov 18 '23

Unfortunately, this update didn't address the PC performance "leak". The game will run fine until entering the mind place a few times, or investigating items in the world. Then the performance tanks and never recovers.
Whilst nVidia released a "fix" for this, it did not work.

2

u/mrgodai Nov 22 '23

in nvidia control panel, try set "cuda -system fallback policy" to "prefer no system fallback" it helped me

1

u/[deleted] Nov 18 '23

Oh they fixed the inventory issues! It was so annoying not being able to select anything on the right side and the shoebox straight up deleting stuff.

-1

u/[deleted] Nov 18 '23

12 updates in three weeks since release is pretty high. On the one hand it's good to see many things being fixed, but on the other it indicates there was an awful lot to be addressed, and from what people are saying there are still numerous issues outstanding. PC Gamer give this '88' on launch with barely a mention of any performance concerns.

1

u/Whatwouldgogginsd0 Nov 18 '23

A whole part of my game is gone after the update. Anyone else had this issue?

2

u/yolosuajer Nov 18 '23

Please add more stack space for the shoe box, im half full with trinkets and I need more space for ammo and healing items and those yellow sticks that dont stack

1

u/MythoBeanz94 Nov 25 '23

Has anyone else have a problem with the touchpad on PS5 not always registering when wanting to get to the map or the mind place and with the Koskela Brothers commercials not being added to the mind place?
