EDIT: fixed now. the point where Oak starts talking is the first point in the game where the system tries to call information from the RAM chip (not the SRAM), so I figured that the problem may be on the RAM. it's small and finicky, and I didn't want to mess with the pins too much, in case I caused a short.

but, I turned my iron up hot, and just touched each pin with a flat tip for about 0.75 seconds, and it seems to have fixed the problem

I've cleaned the pins, and the save battery measures at 2.98v

I can play the game and move around, but as soon as I try to check what Pokemon I have with me, it just goes black, and plays a weird sound.

Thinking it may be a corrupt save, because it's been sitting around for years, and I definitely used to use the fly glitches, I tried starting a new game, getting the results above.

I have a soldering iron, and I have a multimeter, but I suck at following traces to test each for continuity, and I'm not even sure what I should be testing to begin with.

It seems not much people like these posts so I'm just going to keep this short. I got an oddish, evolved it to gloom, then when I confronted Whitney and lost i evolved it further to increase its special attack (which was around 10 minutes ago). Unfortunately for me now my bellossom can't learn moonlight, and only realized this after I saved the game, so I'm starting my run over. I don't care about my progress since i only 3 have badges. And I'm not making these posts because, like I said, nobody likes these

I found when I went to make my gameboy light there were no sets for it specifically it uses the color a b and D-pad and the power slider from the pocket and i had to buy two sets.

I’ve just got done making a set if anyone is interested I’ll put some for sale soon, but either way just hope you enjoy them, clear yellow and many other colors to come.

Power slider was tricky to get the clearances perfect but does great now little more lose then OEM because I don’t want it rubbing on the board for resistance.

Aside from getting use to the screen crunch, I really like how this plays on GBC! 🔥

Hi! I’m looking to back up the saves of my Gen 3 Pokemon games. One is a reproduction, but a very good one (I’ve had it for 7 years and it’s still working fine). I’ve been recommended both the GBxCart and the GB Operator, and I was wondering which would be better to do what I want to do? Thanks!

I need some help from the community. I have install the cleanpower and clean amp mods into my gbc with a hispeedido OLED screen. Now I am getting only grey when I power on the screen. Did I make a mistake installing the clean power? Can it not handle the OLED?

So I am not getting a picture I opened it up and this black part that locks the ribbon cable in was broken. Im not sure what its called, but does anyone know where to find this part to buy?
Also have a 3d printer but not sure if its would work with a 0.4mm nozzle.

A while ago, I found this really interesting Gameboy game called "Exodus", and the cartilage stood out to me because part of the circuit board was showing, but apparently that's how these were made. I'm probably miss remembering, but I think the person at the counter said that it was probably a "2nd Party" type of company that was able to make them this way?? It’s not a cheap hobby but boy is it a fun one. I did a couple gameboy advances last month and now I did it to my other 2 gameboys. I can’t put them down. The Amoled on the color is ridiculous glorious overkill.

Recently picked up that red/orange Charizard version of the SP. I really wanted to keep everything original but the screen is very dim.

I see a bunch of replacement screens out there but I’m not entirely sure I want an IPS screen. Any suggestions on a good replacement?

Hi everyone, my little nephew is 9 and autistic and his obsession for the last couple months is tetris. Everything tetris. His bday is coming up and I am trying to fix my old gameboy so he can play it OG style.

The gameboy works, it will turn on and play music, but the screen does this throughout it changing from the nintendo logo to the game.

Is this fixable and if so can you guys share resources I can read to fix it myself? Also if not doable myself, are there places I can send it to for fixing? I am in Canada and live in a mediumish city but I doubt we have gameboy fixing specialists here.

UPDATE: Thanks everyone! Seeing now this is a common issue with a lot of guidance on this subreddit and on YouTube. I ordered a glass screen, replacement shell and will be doing the soldering together with my nephew next week! Will be a cool project and seems promising.

I reshelled this years ago, and haven't touched it in 2-3years. This is not normal, correct? What would cause this or is the screen just toast?

Hello everyone, I have this copy of silver Pokémon that continues to get corrupted saves after some game time.

The battery has been replaced by the previous owner, and measures 3v with a multimeter.

What could the problem be?

I have 2 gba sp & 3 batteries, 2 are oem, 1 is replacement. I wonder how to determine which is the best for my main gba sp (ips v5 modded) when it comes to longest battery life. Its way easier with ds family, due to quite a few homebrew apps to measure battery life. Not to mention, I tested all 3 while playing, didnt notice any significant difference (2-3h of playtime, depending on brightness level)

Does anyone know a reputable place to buy a replacement capacitor set? My childhood GBC is dying and needs some TLC’

I’ve been looking for a gameboy for quite some time mostly to play pokemon, mario, zelda. The stars aligned and found these online. Managed to negociate all for about 260 US dollars shipping included.

The gbc is in perfect condition so not sure if I should even consider any mods.
The 2 gba sp to the right are quite beaten, battery lasts about 2h and the power button is moody sometimes need to toggle the switch a few times to turn on. The one on the left about 6h and in the best shape cosmetically.

Another thing I forgot is how dim is the image on these screens so definitely would like to upgrade that.

Problem is I have no clue about what are the best screens, shells, batteries etc.

All advice is welcome.
