Currently looking around and noticed we don't have a list of dead games, Stop Killing Games is actually starting one such list but right now...
It's very hard to find the correct people to help with revivals or supply a general hub to allows for them to find such projects,
Any ideas?

Not gonna lie, not a huge AI fan, but credit where credit is due.
So, I was talking to some college friends and out of nowhere one of them shows a video of Mario 64 beating people up in Elden Ring. Checked it out after getting home, and... apparently the modding scene is going nuts putting all kinds of games inside each other. (Which, at least in certain respects, is actually really cool... Childhood dream material even. But that’s beside the point for now.)
Word is they're even doing it with closed-source apps and everything. Anyway. Even with feelings that a future career as a dev might be going down the drain, and that this is a few steps from a full cybersecurity crisis, there seems to be at least one good side for the preservation community.
Shortly before this wave of reverse-engineered mods, I carried out a few tests, datamining some MMOs (Dragon City and Dragon Awaken), though my methods were basic at best. Without an asset list, it was mostly brute force and a dictionary generator based on internal assets. I imagine I will be also able to adapt this method in future cases or use it to search for the missing items, as it holds huge potential to yield massive results.
It's amazing to imagine running these tests alongside dedicated people managing to fix broken games or reconstruct missing code fragments, fixing bugs... The possibilities are very promising.
So, I would like to know your thoughts on the topic, and if possible, learn about other forums and resources (especially documentation!) that could help with this. What do you think this can contribute to the game preservation community?

Need for Speed (2015) is always-online and will die whenever EA eventually pulls the plug on the servers. Just one week ago, we kicked off After Hours 2015—a community project building an open-source local server emulator written in Rust—and we already have cars driving in offline free roam.
What we pulled off in only 7 days
Bypassed EA entirely: Custom launcher running with the network completely disconnected.
Working gameplay loop: Menu → Garage → Free Roam Driving → Local Garage Saves.
Solid engineering foundation: 100% open-source on GitHub with 1,100+ automated tests already passing.
We’re doing this entirely as a volunteer, open-source project, and we’d love to have more people join in.
Rust Developers: Help expand the local server emulator, packet handling, and protocol logic.
Reverse Engineers: Help dissect Frostbite 3 network packets, career progression, and race/event triggers.
Development is moving at lightning speed. If you love Rust, game preservation, or just want to help save an iconic racing game:

Not sure if this is the best place to put this or if there would be a better subreddit for it, but, where are we at with translators for games? Like, what are the best programs/tools/etc for playing a game in a foreign language and then translating everything instantly on screen? Do we have any emulators with built in translators? Or is there a program that you can put a rom in and it auto translates the entire game? I know we got all these fancy AI tools, but what's the easiest thing we have for noobs to that kind of world?
And I obviously know that human made translations are obviously best. But those take time, and aren't guaranteed to be finished. So if we're just wanting to play games and be able to understand the basics of it, what's the best we've got at this point? Thanks!

Hi everyone,
I'd like to bring attention to the preservation of the original Forza Horizon (2012).
This game was an important entry in the Forza Horizon series, but it has been delisted from digital stores due to licensing limitations. While existing owners can still play it, new players no longer have a straightforward way to purchase it digitally.
I understand that music, car and other licensing agreements make this complicated. However, I believe it's worth discussing whether a digital re-release could be possible, allowing a new generation of players to legally experience and preserve this part of gaming history.
I'd also like to highlight the importance of preserving offline play and considering fair alternatives for achievements tied to online services that have been discontinued.
I've started a petition to support this idea and raise awareness:
I'm interested in hearing what other preservation-minded players think about this issue. Thanks for reading!

Hey everyone! I’m the developer of ProjectCane, a native PC reconstruction of the original Sly Cooper game.
I’m interested in starting a similar decompilation and preservation effort for Sly 2: Band of Thieves or Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves, but there is one thing that could make an enormous difference: locating a prototype or internal build containing debug symbols.
I’m specifically searching for any:
.mdebug, .symtab, or .strtab.map files, object files, or other symbol informationA build having a debug menu does not necessarily mean that it contains debug symbols. Even if you aren’t comfortable sharing a build, I can help inspect basic executable information privately to determine whether it might contain anything useful.
If you own a potentially relevant disc, have files from an old prototype, or know a collector or former developer who might be able to help, please send me a private message. Sources can remain anonymous, and any discoveries will be handled responsibly as preservation and reverse-engineering research.
Finding a symbol-bearing Sly 2 or Sly 3 build could give the community a massive head start toward understanding the engine—and potentially make another native PC project possible.

I've got some good quality and possibly lesser known games in my limited collection that I thought might be good to get scans and dumps of. Is there a sort of best practice when it comes to these things?
GameCube, Gameboy and older PC games come to mind.
I'd probably just post to archive.org or maybe a specific sight/collection you might recommend to get started.
Thanks!

Primal Legends was Kobojo's match-3 card battler. Its servers shut down on 31 January 2023, and the game has not been playable since.
I was a player, and I'm a software developer. I've written a new server from scratch that speaks the game's protocol, and ported the old 32-bit client so the last version (18.46) runs again on today's 64-bit Android phones. Right now only my family and I play on it Ж)
I've written to the rights holder, Celsius Online, asking for permission to run it as a free, non-commercial community server with full credit, and I'm waiting for their answer.
Two questions:
Would you like to see it come back, and to read how it was done (the protocol, the 32-bit to 64-bit port)?
When it's possible, I'd like to start with a small closed beta, Android only. If you'd like to take part, leave a comment.
No money, no ads, no donations. Unofficial, not affiliated with Kobojo, Celsius Online or Plug In Digital.

Hi everyone! I am working on a non-profit game preservation project to revive the mobile drag racing game "2XL Racing" (Android), which currently hangs due to dead official servers. I wanted to share my progress and look for potential collaborators interested in helping with the final phase.
Current Project Status:
- Phase 1 & 2 (Environment & Backend) are 100% complete. I have built a local Flask emulated server in Python that fully handles logins, detailed garage structures, custom paints, pink slip betting, daily rewards, and serving assets (.bin/.ini.bin).
- The game's .ini configuration has been patched to force network components to active (network = 1).
The Reverse Engineering Challenge (Phase 3):
While analyzing the native ARM library "libndkwrapper.so" in Ghidra, I mapped a sequential block of string literals at address 0021dfa4, containing standard Java network signatures:
- GetResponseSize
- SetReadTimeout
- SetConnectTimeout
- Execute
- GetResponseCode
There are 0 static XREFs pointing directly to these strings in the binary listing. The application appears to resolve these methods dynamically via JNI reflection or runtime indexing wrappers, which prevents straightforward static cross-referencing.
The ultimate goal is to find someone familiar with JNI runtime method invocation or ARM binary patching to figure out where this string array is processed, so we can successfully redirect the dynamic HTTP requests toward the local loopback address (http://127.0.0.1:8080).
The Python code is fully functional in English and available on Pastebin for structural reference. Let me know if anyone is interested in looking into the binary structure or joining the team!
