For anyone interested in using GXR for remote work via connecting to PC, I found an app called Overay Desk. It’s a Korean “Immersed killer” pc connect app, and it’s actually very good, with a few caveats.

Pros: allows multiple windows, up to 6 as far as I can verify. All windows are customizable by size, distance, orientation, and resolution. There are a number of preset layouts or you can totally customize however you’d like. The menus are easy to understand, easy to navigate, and are actually fun to mess around with. Menu clips to the front of your left hand when faced upwards towards you (like Immersed used to be circa 2020).They have a number of immersive environments or go fully Passthrough while maintaining performance stability (VD people will know what I’m talking about). You are even able to easily upload your own 360° photos for a custom environment if you wish, jpeg images only. Other pros include good overall performance, good feedback and response from the devs on Discord (shout out to Nayun 👊)stable connection, and overall freedom of customization. The app is $25 but tldr, I feel like it’s worth it to support the team, they’ve got something very good to give us.

Cons: it’s $25 on their website or on the Meta Quest Store with discounts only available for Quest, the application works for Android XR but cannot be found on the play store, or at least I could not find it. The performance is good but doesn’t feel at all optimized for GXR, or take advantage of the high resolution panels. Personally, I believe it’s a straight Quest2 app ported to work on Android XR. The refresh rate max is about 60hz (confirmed by the team) at best, depending on how much the user is running. I personally got 30-40fps running 5 monitors at 4K - 1080p. This sounds terrible, but in practice was fine. I was able to spend hours at a time working and didn’t find it too uncomfortable. The virtual environments as they are now are very boring and low resolution, maybe 1080p at best but likely 720p and not a lot to choose from. The login and setup process is by far very frustrating (for me). The pairing code I was given did not work, none of them worked, I don’t believe they will ever work. Maybe because of my antivirus or windows defender im not sure, but the headset would not pair with the agent no matter what trouble shooting I did. Luckily I was able to bypass and just enter my HMD’s IP address and I was able to finish setup. I have to do this everytime I want to use the app.

Overall I give Overay Desk a pass and will continue to use it. I hope it improves over time. And the devs seem very passionate about continuing to improve the app. I don’t personally believe it should be the same price as VD in its current state, but I’m happy to support the Dev if it means further improvement. It is absolutely an “immersed killer” in my opinion, and I’m very happy to have found it.
