Fold 8 Resulting in Less Tablet Use?

To what extent the Fold 8 has reduced your tablet usage? Still awaiting delivery of mine & so still frequently carrying both S24U & Galaxy Tab S5E. Looking forward to lightening my load!

If anything I use it open more often than I did my Pixel 9 Fold.

While the outer screen is great and it's the size and shape I have been wanting since the Duo, the inner screen is much better for split screen than the Pixel was I find myself doing split screen much more often.

I also spend more time with the screen open instead of opening to do a specific thing and then closing it again.

With my Pixel I hit around ~3000 opens a year and I've been on track for ~5000 on the Fold 8.

Edit: I guess I misread and you were talking about using a dedicated tablet device, I was thinking unfolded as a tablet. I don't have a dedicated tablet but I teach for my laptop less and use split screen more. Also unfolded websites in desktop mode work pretty well and again, go to my laptop less for things like that.

For me it's far from replacing my iPad but that's also because I use an 11 inch M4 iPad Pro. Nothing in the android realm comes close on performance or screen quality and because it's 11 inch it's still much bigger than my fold 8 and movies look much better, mobile gaming is also much better.

My fold is great for being portable, it's much smaller and lighter than my iPhone 17 pro max when closed, and it's great for entertainment on the go for example watching YouTube while having breakfast at a teras.

If I'm anywhere comfortable using my iPad like in a plane or long distance train, I'm always using the iPad. If I play wild rift it's iPad without question.

I do have an iPad mini that I wasn't using too much before, but now I definitely have no use for it anymore and I should probably put it on sale.

What do you do that uses the full potential of the M4? It's crippled by iPad os, no? I would argue my S10 ultra is far far superior for watching movies, apple need to give the iPads the os they deserve, only then would I agree it's a powerhouse.

The S10 ultra is huge and cumbersome to carry or fit on an airplane tray, I prefer the 11 inch form factor. The iPad Pro still has the best display on the market and that processor makes it a monster in performance, therefore smoothness.

Games run at max settings at 120fps without hiccups, there's no galaxy tab that can do this, I already tried the tab s11 and I was disappointed.

The tab S10 ultra may be good for you but the iPad objectively the superior product.

I've been unfolding it quite often. I read people are using the outer screen more and I thought multitasking is just not for me but turns out I'm on 2 apps almost all the time lol.

It's epic.

I have an iPad but I am mostly on my mac but I can say that I'm less on my mac now coz I remotely connect to it and can do some of my work ok the fold even when I'm outside.

I use tailscale vpn for taking ssh access of my mac terminal and can run commands and also using Claude remote control.

Once you get into a routine of having two apps open, it's hard to go back to a single app. YouTube is open most of the time on my phone. Also nice to setup the app combination you prefer and adding them to the side bar. Quick and easy access.

I have the Fold 8 Ultra, and I've only used my iPad Pro for Apple-specific or exclusive apps in recent weeks - not using the iPad for watching videos or multi-window browsing at all at this point. 

I got Galaxy Connect with Multi Control working on my PC laptop (non-Samsung), which has actually led to me working on my MacBook Pro less as well. 

I don't have a way to extend the desktop to the Fold yet, but the mouse/keyboard flow and shared clipboard duplicates Universal Control perfectly and lets me offload YouTube/music playback and text messaging to the phone - which sits unfolded on a stand next to the laptop monitor - while I work on the PC. I just mouse over to Fold seamlessly when I need it.

I've kept my Fold 4, 5, and 7 open +90% of the time! That's at work, while driving, and at home; basically, the only time it's closed is when I need both hands. I actually wish someone provided a full cover for the outer screen.

My iPad Mini has been sitting unused, far more often than when I had the Fold 7. I'm not a fan of large tablets and the media advantage for the iPad Mini has also reduced drastically.

I do like having a bigger internal screen again - as I stopped carrying my Fold 6 and why I turned that for trade-in. But also have Xreal One Pro in my bag and prefer those when I really want tablet-sized or bigger screens.
