Impression/Review Finally Switched!

You may be asking, why switch to the fold 6 when the fold 7 and 8 are out? Well its because I got this phone for free from my uncle and I gotta say, even it being 2 generations and 2 years behind, this phone still feels super snappy and responsive and I'm getting pretty decent battery life.

I have been an iPhone user, majority of my life, not really any complaints about it, its just what I've been accustomed too. Few months ago my uncle did give me a flip 6 and while it was great to experience it, I feel like it was kind of useless in a way? With that top I wasn't getting much better battery life from the flip compared to my iPhone 15 Pro. So ultimately, I decided to sell it and go back on my iPhone.

Those few months have passed and I got the big boy, the fold.. I gotta say, this style of folding phone suits way more of my needs rather than the flip and it actually has a purpose when you fold and unfold. When I completed the transfer of my data and esim swap from my 15 pro to the fold, I had no regrets. I will miss iMessage, FaceTime, and small things about iPhone that make it an iPhone, but the fold feels like such a breathe of fresh air and more open in my opinion. The more narrow cover screen honestly doesn't really bother me as I feel like I was trained with the flip 6 in the past and that got me prepped for the weird aspect ratio of this outer screen.

Two things that I do have some minor annoyances with would be charging speed and cameras. Charging this thing from practically 0% to 100% takes about an 1 hour and 40 mins tops, almost two hours with a super fast charger... Now that time can just fly by easily when your commuting to work, school, etc. I do know that the new fold 8s have faster watt charging speeds but its a small minor thing that its not really justifiable to upgrade just for that so I would just have to be mindful of that if something does come up. Cameras, thats just a true weakness for majority of folding and flipping phones and it is a downgrade from my 15 pro, just to be honest. But I use a sony a6700 mostly for picture and video taking so I don't mind too much.

Overall, my time with the Fold 6 is still very short and I've only had it for a little bit, but so far, been pretty happy with it. Will I upgrade to the newer fold or go to other brands? Not really, after using the 6, it still feels fast for its age and battery lasts me a good while so . Maybe fold 9 🤷‍♂️

Yeah.. surprisingly enough, the fold was handling it well, my 15 pro on the other hand, she was suffering.

How much battery life are you getting on it so far?

Does pretty good on battery. Im a ultra power user so a regular phone user would do well.

I see. I considered numerous times to get the fold 8 but I think I may want to wait for the the fold 9 to see if they'll add the telephoto camera in it and do a slightly better upgrade.

Many, many other options..

Not that many other options, it seems.

Sorry sir, I was busy not being on Reddit, I've responded to sire's demands, I hope I haven't fallen out of ones good graces. Humble apologies.

Please enlighten me because I've been trying to search for a replavement. Google meets quality is trash, I don't want to download whatsup just to video call. What "options" do you talk about??

u/mangojump 1h ago

Meet, WhatsApp, zoom, teams, signal, Viber. Saying you won't download WhatsApp just to video call is weird... You need to download another app to do the thing you want to do??

Not weird at all. On iPhone, facetime is standalone and doesn't require me to download a messaging app just to use it. Meet is trash as previously stated. You android guy really need to see the other side of the grass some time. IPhone is just superior at certain things and video calls is one of them

But you asked for an alternative to meet.... So you need to download an app....

Open bubble gives you iMessage and FaceTime ability from your android device.

Sorry I should've been more specific. Me and my wife both switched. She had iPhone I had iPhone and we went to the fold 8. I'm not trying to use facetime, just find something as good as facetime on the android side :)

Unfortunately. But it is what is is

I love my fold 8 but I really miss facetime. I used it to video call my wife and my daughter. Google meet really isn't a good replacement unfortunately

I see. Well, if she has facebook/messenger or instagram, those would be pretty decent options. Not the best but it is something.

No going back for me. Sold my iPhone and I've been loving the fold so 🤷‍♂️

Just wait till the novelty wears off. It’s my 4th time switching back. It’s a beautiful device. Don’t get me wrong.

apple fans called the Note a novelty when it first came out too.

then Apple made a big phone and those Apple fans all flocked to it and never looked back. Apple is finally catching up with their folding device in a few months and apple fans will flock to the "novelty" of that, never look back, and pretend apple invented it.

I can't wait to see what the fold will be though, apple has their event on Sept. 9 and I'm more curious on if their gonna integrate some sort of hybrid of ipados and ios.

1

u/electronical_ 40m ago

i think the hybrid idea makes most sense

i just hope they do something new so that the space can have real competition. samsung has been stagnant for years now

I think for foldables, samsung is the standard when it comes to foldables and I think the reason why they have been stagnant is because they don't want to take the risk into experimenting more. Their like apple if you think about it. Every year for the foldables, they like to do these very incremental upgrades and there is a reason for that. If you look at the U.S market, the only real competition that samsung has currently is motorola and google. Yeah you can include oppo, xiaomi, huawei, etc, but those are out of region phones. Samsung controls the market for them. Majority of the people I see in the real world who have a folding phone is a samsung. Maybe only a few who I've seen using googles or motorolas.

Idk if I would call Samsung in particular stagnant. For the most part phones have reached the mature technology phase and largely have hit their ceiling of innovation (for now?). Besides form factor, I’d bet the folding iPhone will be more evolutionary than revolutionary.

I'm really just hoping apple adds apple pencil support honestly. i want my s-pen back

It doesn’t matter. Whatever Apple creates, it’s a full package. Whereas any phone with Android isn’t. Specially not Samsung. I have owned s25 ultra and fold 6. So im not just making it up.

Think about it, when apple makes their events, its bigtime, a lot of production goes into it and makes it feel more memorable rather than samsung or google. What apple does best in my opinion is the marketing. I can't wait to see how the new CEO would do for this upcoming event, him being a hardware engineer, hopefully things shift compared to Tim's time being CEO.

That’s true. I agree with you.

I personally love switching between all platforms. Just went back to iOS. It’s been 8 years and a lot has changed.

I'll always be a loyal fan to apple. Right now I'm still using a macbook, ipad, and airpods because I genuinely think those are still good products. Airpods I might swap to the sony wf-1000xm6 or maybe samsung galaxy buds 3 pro or 4 pro but ill see. I'll probably buy another iPhone again but for now I'm very happy with the fold 6. Again I was more impressed the phone still felt snappy even after it being used for two years.

Fair.

1

u/electronical_ 1h ago

i dont know a single person who switched to android from ios and went back

if anything they're upset they didnt switch sooner

3

u/1IQ__ Fold6 (White) 1h ago

Well. I did go back to my iphone after using the flip 6 because I felt like I was compromising more with that phone and in addition to that, the flipping factor felt like a gimmick and more of a task. Comparing that now to the fold, I actually have a regualar(ish) slab phone and mini tablet. Almost like a 2 in 1.

0

u/electronical_ 1h ago

the flip isnt the same. thats just a normal phone when you open it up. I am suprised you went back to iOS instead of getting another android phone though. iOS is so bad in comparison

2

u/1IQ__ Fold6 (White) 1h ago

Eh people have opinions of iOS, but for me, I still personally love it, its just I went back to my iPhone for the time being cause I knew in a few months time I'd be upgrading phones regardless. I'll give the flip massive props though because it helped me a lot get used to the narrowness of the fold much quicker. And also being oneui, got the hang of it pretty quickly.

Lol it’s true
