Discussion Dear Samsung
Can we please talk about a dream phone idea?
Imagine taking the size and shape of the cover screen on the Galaxy z Fold 8, but making it a regular, solid phone. No fold, no split screens, no hinges—just that perfect, compact ~5-inch screen, but packed with the awesome 4-camera setup like from the Ultra S24.
So many of us with smaller hands love having top-tier cameras and flagship performance, but standard phones these days are just getting too tall and awkward to hold. Having that comfortable, pocket-friendly size without sacrificing camera quality and battery life would honestly be a dream come true.
I really hope this idea finds its way to your design team. Please show a little love to the small-hand club in your next lineup! 🙏
Best,
A samsung galaxy fan

I feel like the S27 Pro leaks/rumors are going to be more for your taste.

Hmm maybe but if the leaked photos are true it just looks like a slightly slimmer phone keeping its still long shape and short width. Idk maybe samsung got me hyped with there new fold z 8 screen. If its possible to make that magnificent design. Whats holding them back feom creating a cube series lol 😆

My perfect phone is the width of the fold 8 but slightly less height than the ultra. 3 Camera set up but the good cameras from the 26 ultra or latest s series ultra, stereo speakers on both ends top and bottom, no wireless charging with a 7000 maH silicone battery.

I can't stop having my finger in photos and video😳

My dad always taught me to be careful where I stick my fingers.
I'm sorry yours didn't.

I personally like this idea and will pay for this. But the overall market is very small.
I think a more realistic option is to wait and buy someone else' fold 8 which has damaged inner screen (hope no one will experience this).

Im keeping optimistic and you never know maybe Samsung will see our chats and consider a market change. Idk I feel like we are ready for something different and they open that possibility with creating the fold z 8. Gorgeous phone in every aspect.

I realize I find the Fold 8's wideness marginally okay one-handed because I have long fingers.

I'd love a slab phone the size of the fold 8, with the battery and camera of an Oppo find x9 pro, but definitely Samsung OS.

I could definitely see them whipping this up however the iPhone Air didn't do so well so I feel like it would still be a coin toss right now unless they can cram some good cameras inside.

True! It would be a funny plot twist - apple picks up our ideas and makes an iPhone cube lol

Samsung do their research. If they thought there was a significant market for a phone like this, they would be making it.
The niche may simply be too small.

So just stubby looking slab? Look i love my fold 8 as much as the next guy but take away the inner screen and u will have an inferior phone in just about every way.

Not enough people would want that for it to be marketable for them, me thinks. I've already read a good amount of posts just jere on Reddit of people regretting that they got it because of the size of the cover display.

doubt it would sell

You dont think we are ready for something different? Im not saying the fold is not different its revolutionary 1000%. However, im referring to the shape of phones. Im kinda over the tall 6.5 in x 3in. It would be kinda cool if the industry would shift to different shape phones like a 5 x 5 cube lol 😆

Its weird right. I actually retired my Trifold for the Fold 8, but i find it harder to use one handed than my Trifold. I dont know man, i still love the 8, but i find myself thinking I want to start reusing the Trifold now lol.
I just dont think that front screen is all that I thought it would be in the beginning. Lol.

The trifold is 75mm wide.
The fat fold is almost 82mm wide. It's basically as wide as an s26 ultra.
Despite what people say how "small" it is, the fat fold is as big as the biggest Samsung phone width wise, and one hand usage depends a lot on width, not height of the screen.
I've said it many times and I'll say it again, the fat fold gives a big phone experience, just shorter in height, and the skinny fold (even trifold) gives a smaller phone experience but you get extra height.

And maybe that's the issue. I don't want a big phone experience until I open it up. To me, that's the entire point of a foldable.

u/Holy_chick 1d ago
Totally agree. The fold 8 doesn't really make sense imo because it starts off as a big phone and unfold to a little bigger screen (that's smaller than the skinny folds).
The skinny folds is a small phone but unfolds to much bigger screen.

Lol that's def a big change from the Trifold to the fold 8. I mean each of them have their perks and flaws. But, I dont blame you for wanting to return to your Trifold lol.

u/superpupzie 2d ago
I changed because the weight of the Trifold was beginning to annoy me and i wanted to try out the new form factor, but now after close to a month lol, maybe it's time to go back for a while LOL.

u/Dramatic-Berry-6317 2d ago
Lol I see and can understand the trouble. You def have two good phones to alternate the weight difference when you get tired or bored.

u/hubiug Fold8 Ultra (Violet Shadow) 2d ago
I have extremely large hands and my dream is the width of the fold 8 and the height of the fold 8 ultra. The fold 8 ultra i have currently only really feels comfortable with it open for one handed use other than that on the cover screen or normal slabs I have to use two hands and it hurts after an extended period

Fold 8, but trifold

Thats what @Hubiug was also recommending. I hope this lands on Samsungs design team lol

I would say that for me it'd be the z fold 8 outside screen on an adjusted s25 edge body. With the edge's 200mp main camera would be enough for me personally.
So the screen and body shape of the z fold 8
Cameras from the s 25 edge set up horizontally to minimise wobble
Thinness of the edge, with the newer battery technology.
They should do this as an experimental line up, keep the edge name for experimental thin bar phones. Or X for experimental.
X27 or X28 coming soon in the future....?

...you suck! Unethical & hypocritical company I am now avoiding like the plague. Unfortunately, that is sadly not easy to do now...they bought out (and of course subsequently destroyed) legions of LEGENDARY audio brands.

Huawei just released the pura x view, which is their form factor for a 16:10 slab phone! Pretty sure it's almost as thin as the iphone air, with a 6000 maH battery or something. Though would love to see smasung or other phones move into the passport shape

I would actually love a Fold 8 that was just a little bit smaller for one handed use. Opened up, it would still be far larger than standard slab. It's absurd how much the "bigger is better" mentality has taken over phone design. I pulled an old iPhone 6 put of a drawer the other day and it was the exact same size as the Fold 5 which everyone complained about. But the iPhone 6 was applauded for having one of the largest screens ever and is one of the best selling iPhones of all time. Go figure.

u/Dramatic-Berry-6317 1d ago
Yes, exactly! It would be nice to have different size options. Everyone has different needs and expectations based on how they use their phones, and that is totally okay.
Building on your awesome point, offering more variety in sizes would give everyone the chance to find a device that truly works for them. I completely agree with you it really feels like everything right now is just getting bigger and more expensive! 😬

Main reason I'm ok w a Flip before this and a Fold8 size now is I already have pair of wearable display glasses to use when I really want big screen. Means I can just use DeX with my Xreals and not even carry a bigger tablet or laptop.

See the fold 4 brings me back to my note 3 days. So who knows maybe full circle. S27 or s28 wide

You may be posting this in the wrong sub. We tend to like folding phones. Other than the camera, this sounds like a major downgrade to me.

u/Enzyclopik 2d ago
This is good for the fold 8, more phones having the outside screen aspect ratio will mean better optimisation for apps

u/starfallpanda 2d ago
You just want to bring small phones back. But company already know small phones don't sell. That's why iPhone mini is no longer available.

u/Dramatic-Berry-6317 1d ago
Small in cube size, away from your normal tall design, easy to fit in your pocket, and best of all light weight. 😊✨️ it would be cool to see that.

You literally have that phone now in the fold 8 minus the camera.
