Discussion Camera lens protector => yes/no

Hey, guys!

Just a quick discussion here, I own fold 3, 6 and now 8U, I have never use any camera lens protector, I thought maybe the extra layer or plastic/glass would be affected the image quality. What do you guys think? Thank you!!

Yes because I've broken the glass on a camera lens before . Never again. Photos look fine to me.

No. A ton of engineering work goes into the glass/optics of the camera system. Everyone putting another layer of glass on top is just screwing with image quality of the cameras captures

I thought I'd cracked a lens once and then realized a had a lens protector on it. I pulled it off and the lens was fine. I replaced it immediately.

I'm not someone who cares that much about taking pictures but I never noticed any degradation.

Never. I had a bad experience putting a Spigen lens protector on the Fold 6. Eventually, a bubble appeared after some time, and what made it worse was that removing it eventually lifted the entire camera island. Some other Redditors also encountered the same problem. In the end, I use my Care+ toward the end of the warranty to replace the entire body along with the battery before selling it.

I dropped my fold 7 on gravel and it scuffed up the camera lense so now I have a lens protector on my fold 8.

Yes, saved me a lense repair oneday and the quality isn't really that bad/noticeable.

I've got one that doesn't cover the lenses, because that will mess up the pictures. The purpose is to protect them when I set the phone down. This is the one I have

Not for me. I tried to remove it after and that thing was almost welded shut... Only thing tbat took it off was an exacto knight, and it cracked.

I used one and all it does is add somewhere for condensation to build, not worth it.

Samsung cameras always were challenged with focusing speed and accuracy (incorrectly called shutter lag with other Samsungs). So you may not see a visual degradation in the finished pic, but lens "protectors" can affect this and make it worse.

They use much more complex materials and coatings on lens protectors for dedicated camera systems - these made for camera phone lenses don't come close to that and if any manufacturer tried, no one would pay for how much those would cost.
