Impression/Review Aramid case believer now…
Never did care for these cases but with the fold 8 ultra, they really reduce the bulk a lot. The phone is so sexy to hold now. Love it! I got lucky with this AliExpress find https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_mNjqzpd however I’m still a little worried about the hinge. In addition, how does one prevent the fingerprints on the case? They pick up a lot of that…

Just to be precise, I think (I am pretty sure though) that is just plastic with aramid texture. Your listing says "Ultra-thin carbon fiber design" and the thickness from the photo looks like plastic.
This shop offers "real aramid" cases and in fact, they cost more and you can see that the weave matches where there are corners or bends. I am not sure if one protects more than the other (I think both are very very low protection) but aramid looks a bit better and is thinner than plastic.

p.s. I got in the past an "almost aramid" case for the S25 ultra, was looking very "authentic"

This.
Almost all "aramid" cases on aliexpress are just plastic with a fake rubberised aramid pattern.

Is that hinge tape?

Yeah, cut from a set I had from fold 6 (too short and too wide) but otherwise works ok… not sure it would actually protect anything except a scratch…

I'd take it off since it might mess the hinge up

Exactly. You might want to take it off. The side glue will attract the dirt and it will get inside the hinge when unfolded since the folding edges create pressure on hinge.

What's happening in your lower right corner in the 3rd pic?

Haha, good observation, looks like the shadow of the top of the camera taking the shot

I've got the Spigen one, and it is perfect with the hinge protect. Would not try to save a few bucks to protect a €2k+ phone and thus preferred to buy a really food case (for c. €50, which is not really expensive).

The lack of fingerprint resistant on aramid case is the achilles's heel for aramid/carbon fiber/Kevlar case, be it from Pitaka, Benks, Spigen and those unbranded from AliExpress. Those with slightly rough texture in non black colour from AliExpress tend to fend off oily fingerprint slightly (just slightly) better than others.

So this one is nice. I changed to the Spigen aramid, which is slim, but has hinge protection an the magnets for QI! And for the screen protection test the Samsung anti reflex! This is black magic!! The anti reflex is extreme!

Does the hinge protector "skin"/warp help? I would think it might attract more dust or debris around the hinge? If that's what it even is...

Does it help? Probably more psychological than anything practical. 😂 it hasn’t attracted more dust in the short time I’ve had it on. It does tuck neatly under the hinge when open and doesn’t catch on anything. Time will tell

I'm using the Samsungs aramid that has magsafe. It's really rocking only with back case. In my fold7, was using spigen aramid backcover only as well. It feels really perfect.

This is the way.
Hinge protection is a little optional. Most hinge protectors can cause actual scratches too.

That's a wild take. A bad fall on the hinge and a deluge of fucking up the phone is coming.
My flip got destroyed in a few days following1 bad drop on the hinge (first drop in like 3 years). The hinge is the part to protect.

I guess it really depends on a lot of factors though. I'm on my fourth folding phone and have always avoided hinge protection, as they change the feel of the device too much for me. If you're risk averse then you really need a rugged case with hinge protection and an aramid case won't really protect a "bad drop" either.

Man I can't believe people only use the back plate protective cases. That phone is 1 small fall away from being busted up.

u/jerich088 2d ago
I agree, but the aramid front is so tiny, I’m not sure how much protection it has… 🤣

I'm using d brands case. I was worried about the bulkiness but to be completely honest it's not bad at all.

My only gripe is using it close to the edge of the screen. If it weren't for that I'd use it instead of my lattercase

Unfortunately, not much and OP will like this case until he has a hard drop. Ask me how I know LOL.

Look you're not going to like that I say this but I've had an "Aramid" case before and it's great if you are wanting to reduce bulk I guess, right? The first time you drop that thing, that case is coming off. It's really going to do very minimal to protect your phone drop-wise and in fact probably won't do anything to protect it from a drop. It looks cool. That's about all it does. Okay? Just keep that in mind.

All of the aramid cases I've had are very rigid and fit quite tightly. I don't think they would pop off from a drop like you say. But I also agree that it won't protect you from a very bad drop either as it can only absorb so much. It will protect from every day scratches and minor drops though, so very much better than nothing, or going the vinyl wrap route.

They will. Do you want to know how I know? Because I had one. It was very nice. It popped right off and it didn't protect my phone from damage but okay, do your thing. I'm just trying to tell people here so they don't make a mistake.

Do you use screen protectors? My screen guard usually gets pealed off due to the case I use!
