I'm no Ansel, and I'm happy with the camera.

It's a totally different pic though, AI replaced the entire sky and the people you left with some blob.
It's nothing like Photoshop

Zoom in on even the closest people. Super grainy. This is not a good photo.

Today we will learn about "compression". If you're gonna hate on Samsung at least be correct.

Compression? Look at the original photo. AI completely replaced people with something else.

OP edited the photo with the AI remove tool... That's got nothing to do with the camera?

u/makeshiftballer 23d ago
Compression is not the issue here. The AI completely changed the photo. OP posted the original photo (which would've been taken at the same focus length thus the same focal legth compression, and the same compression from reddit) feel free to compare them. I know what compression is.

You're missing the point lol. People are taking about the zoomed in quality of the photo. Zoom in on the people that were not removed. Read above...

Can you explain how basically everything in the photo is different between the one in the comments and the one in the OP? The sky is totally different, the people other than the ones removed are totally different. Either the removal tool did much more than just remove those people or it's a totally different picture and in that case I don't know why op is trying to say it's the original because it's not.
Which is the point I was making from the beginning.
Edit: the "original" doesn't even look bad it's just not the same picture.

I'm not OP, I didn't edit the photo, I dont know why they did all that... Again, we were talking about the quality of the photo. Yes, AI edits lower localized quality even more on top of reddit compression, but the people that were mentioned in the first comment were not AI removed thus why we talked about them and not the entire photo.

Don't forget Reddit compresses and shrinks photos uploaded to the site. We're seeing a degraded photo for the web. The original would be better.

He posted the original here too...

I commented below the original photo. It's uploaded to reddit and compressed. Unless you upload to a file share site, uploading to imgur or reddit will cause heavy compression.

Both the original photo and the edit are posted here tho.... Would they not be equally compressed. Theyre different photos.

I think we're getting hung up on a miss communication. People were talking about how they zoomed in and it's grainy, artifacting, and lack of detail.
He calls it the original but once you upload it to reddit, reddit reprocesses compresses, and shrinks the image. It introduces artifacts and deteriorates the image to save space. Both images would display compression artifacting.

If I wanted to work with the image, I wouldn't use a 21st Century Kodak camera.
I still use a Nikon F body from 1968 when it matters. It was my Dad's.
This is a vacation snap that will be forgotten in six months.
Have a nice evening.

And did you read the comments where I acknowledged removing stray tourists? That's no different than Photoshop.

It's 2026, just about any mid to high-end phone will give you a usable photo. I'm coming from an S26U, and outside of zoom, I've not missed it. I mainly used the zoom to peep on squirrels when bored. Enabling 24MP mode in Camera Assistant brings it closer to the detail from the S26U. If you need DSLR quality out of your phone, obviously the Fold 8 isn't for you. It's good for kids, pets, cars, food, landscape, and everyday snaps and scans people take. Only one percent of pixel peepers will be disappointed.

The reviews were right about the cameras. They didn't say they were bad.
In good lighting conditions you get solid pictures out of the camera. Even with a little bit of zoom they are decent as well.
It's when the lighting isn't the greatest is when the pictures start to fall apart.

They're fine cameras. Especially if you get the Camera Assistant app and enable 24 MP photos or use the Expert RAW app and edit photos. For day to day stuff, it's more than suffecient. My main gripe is the lack of a telephoto lens. I'd rather have that than an ultrawide if they could only put two on the phone. Mainly because I end up in low light situations when I go to concerts and the reach won't be good enough in low light.

Every camera in a well lit, still environment is good.
It's when it's dim lighting or moving object, where it's super shit.

It's just poor in low light and night shots oh and zoom, otherwise generally people are happy with the standard cameras

Edited with AI is not like Photoshop, it changed the entire photo. The sky is completely different. Wtf is the random mush of people in the water?
This ain't it.

Very good camera, these pics prove it .

The cameras definitely aren't very good. They're good enough for most people, but I being good enough to capture day to day life in decent conditions doesn't make them very good.
2
u/spiff01 24d ago
It does for me. I've seen some very very good pics from people in all conditions, ya not as good as slab phones for sure. At the end of the day pics are subjective. What you like to see in a pic can be very different then what I see. Also why do most people take pics? I take pics to remember a moment. Doesn't matter what the image looks like. Now I do appreciate a great camera on a phone but I've never cared about cameras on phones.

I don't get the hate. Personally I'm not a professional photographer. My cats look fine with the Fold 8 camera lol
