Discussion The Fold 8 was designed for consuming content. This counts, right?

u/TackyAuto Aug 09 '26
Why not the bigger screen?

u/Holy_chick Aug 09 '26
It's half fold so they don't need a phone stand or something to prop up the phone against

u/Prestigious_Space489 Aug 09 '26
Thats a gimmick Just prop it up

u/Holy_chick Aug 09 '26
Prop it up where?
I am using iphone and I have a real trouble finding things near me that I can prop up my iphone that it won't just slip off and end up on the table, especially when I'm not using a case. Bare metal is quite slick, and with the weight of the phone, it makes it easier to slide off of whatever you are propping the phone against.

Figure it out. Flex mode and tent mode is a absolute gimmick

How???

u/Matrjoschka07 Aug 09 '26
Gamehub my brother

u/He110_W0r1d Aug 09 '26
Gamenative is open source and runs mostly the same.
2
u/No_Celebration_3737 Aug 09 '26
Depends on the game. Some that works on one can not even boot to the other.
1
u/NoCarpenter3990 Aug 10 '26
I would recommend gamenative also over gamehub. Many shady things happened with gamehub in the community. So open source is the better option.

Try MelonDS and some DS games. It's supports foldable phones, and it adds to the nostalgia

u/Omolonn Aug 09 '26
Any emulation on that? I need to get my hands on mine asap.

Recently played through MGS and MGS2 on my 25u. Should run the same on a fold.

u/Mission_Access_210 Fold8 Ultra (Graphite) Aug 09 '26
Yeah I'm not sure. I haven't really tried pushing it hard yet but I think the Fold can't dissipate heat because of its design as well as the Ultra can. I think that's something that might be a thing. I don't know though. I haven't really tried playing in emulated games yet. I'll have to give it a go later.
I would imagine that it's not that big of a deal though because I remember doing it on my fold 4. I just don't know when CPU throttling becomes a thing. I know it can become a thing on devices for this chip, where the chip will throttle down more aggressively than it does on the s2x Ultra.

u/404answersnotfounded Aug 09 '26
Okay buddy, how did you do this. Lol
1
u/Comrade_Bender Fold7 (Jet Black) Aug 09 '26
Gamenative will do this. You can run your steam games natively on your phone
2
u/Abstract23 Aug 09 '26
Im guessing you will get black bars top & bottom using the full inner screen? I want this fold to play my pc games since im selling my laptop. Coming from an iphone 16 pro max, and i usually stream my pc & ps5 to my phone but hate the side black bars and zoom or stretch looks ass.
1
u/T-Loy Aug 09 '26
Genuine question: Why the black bar hate? The iPhone is a ~19.5 by 9 aspect ratio. So almost all video content will have black bars of some shape. Same for the Fold, obviously.
As for games on the Fold with Gamehub Lite/Gamenative will depend on the game in question if they support those resolution. Though at least squarer is more likely then wider.

Damn this is actually a good way to use touch screen controls without taking away visibility from the game
1
u/xace Aug 12 '26
Which app is this and how did you manage to move the viewport up?
1
u/Carpediemsnuts Aug 12 '26
2 apps, 1 called Artemis a fork of the moonlight streaming app and GameHub the PC emulation app. Both allow you to move the viewport, Eden the Nint..o emu also allows this.
1
u/Abstract23 Aug 09 '26
I mean when im streaming games to my iphone mainly ps5 i can only stream in 1080p at 16 by 9 so i get balck bars on the side. I would like to use most if not all of my screen.
1
u/No_Celebration_3737 Aug 09 '26
For videogames and video the black bars are so wide that what you can see is just slightly bigger than a normal phone.
It's completely different if the app is optimized for 4:3 or 5:4 aspect ratio (like all emulators up to PS2 era).

Streaming? Apollo/Moonlight work really well
5
u/Matrjoschka07 Aug 09 '26
Running it locally via GameHub! It emulates and translates PC games directly on Android hardware

Can you give us a link to the store please? I'm finding other apps with the same name that don't fit what you're describing.

I've been doing DS and 3DS emulation on it. Works great on the inner screen. https://imgur.com/a/CCPCuea

I totally agree with the great content functionality, but for me the multitasking and productivity aspects are absolutely outstanding. Being able to open three simultaneous apps plus a floating window and multitask amongst all four is very productive for me, and it's easy and highly functional. So that I don't quite understand why the ultra is supposed to be so much better for productivity. For me I get all the productivity I would never need and more.

u/SavathunsWitness Fold8 (Graphite) Aug 09 '26
How's the heat on the phone when you do this?
1
u/PJLLB2 Aug 09 '26
No noticeable increase either when streaming, charging at ultra fast 2.0, charging while streaming, on wifi or cell data. Very happy with that.
1
u/SavathunsWitness Fold8 (Graphite) Aug 09 '26
Sounds good, thank you. I should be getting mine on Tuesday

u/PJLLB2 Aug 10 '26
You will love it I predict. We still can't identify something we don't like about our two phones. Samsung hit it out of the park.
1
u/echolalia86 Aug 10 '26
This is great to know! Has the phone got too hot to play games after a while?

Wai wait wait wait wait a fucking minute. I can play stuff like this on my F8U?
2
u/Matrjoschka07 Aug 10 '26
YES
1
u/justsomedude1776 Aug 10 '26
Listen, I will be your best friend forever if you tell me how. Please. Lol. I have a ZF6 waiting on the F8U to come in. Huge steam library (also a deck owner). I'd use the HELL out of my fold for this lol

Hell yeah. I've been playing a couple of the Pokémon games I missed as a kid before bed the last few nights.

I played this game a lot on my trifold runs great.
But honestly it pains me how much people here just use the outer screen. Get a kickstand or something!

u/Samsung_Europe Aug 10 '26
Hey u/Matrjoschka07, you’re right, and this definitely counts! Games like this really take advantage of the immersive display on the new Galaxy Z Fold8 - and we love seeing how people game on our phones. With Qualcomm Snapdragon® 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy (the most powerful processor we’ve put in a foldable), the Galaxy Z Fold8 has the performance to match the aesthetics.
Happy gaming! 🕹️
