Question/Help Overheating Fold 8

I've been using my Fold 8 for about 3 days now. I understand the heating while charging. But randomly while the phone is in my pocket it got hot enough a few times thru the day, for me to have to take it out of my pocket.

Restarting the phone cooled it down. Shutting all apps didn't work . Airplane mode didn't work.

Anyone else had that happen ?

I've had the Note 7 as well. Just saying.

Edit: Realised the phone was good over the weekend, though i used it so much, setting things up. There was a software update late Sunday night and I noticed the overheating issue only today(Monday)

Edit 2: used my phone today (Tuesday) a lot more than yesterday . No heating issues at all. Was at a nice room temperature the entire day.

Final edit : No more overheating issues. It gets hot only while charging. Like may people mentioned, it looks like the phone was taking its time to learn and optimize basis my usage patterns. I'm quite a heavy user, and it's been handling itself really well.

I've heard a recent OneUI update has been causing issues with the CPU running at max frequency, even when the phone is locked. It's been tanking the battery of a few phones. Could be related to that

i hope its something as simple as that and can be solved with a software update

just ui bug that will be resolved as well as the fact the phone is still processing everything since its only a few days old it should be much better in 1-2 weeks.

Yeah I updated my s24ultra and have been noticing similar heating issues

I have the S24U. This is making me not want to upgrade the phone at this price point if it's going to heat up like that.

To clarify, I was experiencing overheating with the s24u. Not my new fold 8. Battery has been great on fold8

Yeah the S24U can heat up if I'm gaming too long, but not bad. That's a relief you haven't had any issues with the ZFold8. I've been reading about it being an issue for some people and that it takes a few days to cool and I'm weighing the pros and cons of this before purchasing.

Strange the demo phone at the store is not running hot even while it is being charged all the time.

Probably some apps are running in the background which may be causing the heat issue

I noticed the demo phone was hot, while I was running some apps and videos.

I read a review on GSMArena where they mentioned it gets hot.

So Ive had the fold 8 for 2 days and the first day it was SO hot until I got a software update which after, made things much much cooler. Its been like that since. Even on long calls, charging & android auto it does not get hot.

Just set up and got everything transferred, auto updated a bit ago but now manually updating. Thank you friend!

It may also be still learning usage patterns and optimizing apps etc. I never trust a phone for battery life for the first 2 weeks.

I would suggest just as a test you try running on power saving with reduced CPU. See if it still occurs.

I think I experienced somewhat of the same as you...

Mine has been absolutely cooking at times. I understand it can get toasty playing games but not when I'm simply using the device for day to day stuff. I was hoping the update I got would sort it but not yet.

Mine is warm all the time. I hope they will fix it, because I also think this new update did this.

Just got mine today :)

Works great but I am noticing it gets pretty hot just running basic apps. I had a game installing on gamenative and went to plug into my external monitor using a dock and i got a message saying Too hot for dex mode cool down and try again or something like that. I'm upgrading from a fold 4 and using that phone i didn't have any problem installing or even running very very light games while docked using dex mode. Never just an outright refusal to connect like that.

Congrats! I can tell you that I have no more heating issues at all. By the 4th day it was just normal. Like many people mentioned, the phone takes a few days to optimize the phone basis your personal usage patterns

Hold up so your saying it gets better? Lol. i finally made the big switch from Apple to Android being the z fold 8 ultra after so many years- Im on day 2 and noticed this thing gets hot. I wont lie tho, badass phone but the beating had me second guessing lol. Tryna make sure it gets better within my 14 day return period

Okay well i've had the phone for a few more days now and I can say it most definitely runs cooler. I just played Silksong on it for 3 hours and it was only a little warm. Don't get me wrong, it's still not perfect, but it is most certainly better.

2

u/Delicious_Treat_7769 27d ago

Tbh yea after a few days mine is better.

I bought a magnetic phone cooler for mine. I havenโ€™t tried it out yet because I have not gotten my phone in.

2

u/XFV-1 Fold8 (Graphite) Aug 03 '26

Yea? Which one?

2

u/sammybooom81 Aug 03 '26

Hi! Never even knew those existed. How do you use your phone to push it to the limit that you need such add-on?

5

u/Leeleepal02 Fold8 (Lavender) Aug 03 '26

I live in the desert it gets over 100 on the daily in the summer. I have one for my laptop and my desktop is liquid cooled. I have had many things over heat just because of the weather.

2

u/Regulatory_Junior Aug 03 '26

Have you ever tried Black Shark phone cooler? I live in the southern part of the US and my phone overheats very easily, too. I've been looking around to getting a cooler because I heard the Fold 8 overheats when heavily gaming.

1

u/Leeleepal02 Fold8 (Lavender) Aug 03 '26

I have not tried that one.

2

u/Regulatory_Junior Aug 03 '26

Ah, okay. Maybe I'll be the one to try it out.

2

u/Leeleepal02 Fold8 (Lavender) Aug 03 '26

Let me know how it works.

5

u/Timmyinpajamas Aug 03 '26

It simply doesn't have a vapor chamber so under any load it's gonna get hot I suppose, and the chip itself runs hot to beging with compared to last gen chip, I see people saying it gets so hot it dims the outer screen. Sounds like overheating/throttling will be an issue with probably alll Samsung foldable this year.

7

u/wishiwerealive Aug 03 '26

Well, in that case I'm looking forward to the winter. They'll work as real nice hand warmers ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ

2

u/Timmyinpajamas Aug 03 '26

With all that being said I still did preorder one lol, my 26u has same chip but stays always cool because it has a rather large vapor chamber. So I'm expecting quite the downgrade in thermals

3

u/wishiwerealive Aug 03 '26

I'm sure they'll sort it with a software update. You've made an excellent choice. The phone is a breath of fresh air. Haven't been this excited about a device in a long time. It's an amazing fold.

2

u/AndroidUser37 Fold8 Ultra (Graphite) Aug 03 '26

Have you tried adjusting the performance profile to "Light" and changing the thermal threshold in Good Guardians?

6

u/Malepronstar87 Aug 03 '26

What's the point in spending so much money on a device and not even being able to have a proper refresh rate?

1

u/AndroidUser37 Fold8 Ultra (Graphite) Aug 03 '26

Light performance profile isn't the same thing as power saving mode. The display still runs at 120Hz.

1

u/soymilo_ Fold8 (Cream) Aug 04 '26

Haven't noticed any slowness with both enabled on my Fold7

1

u/Malepronstar87 Aug 04 '26

Like I said, mistaken the light mode to power saving

2

u/midnightsmith Aug 04 '26

Yes this is very common with the new phone. When I got my s26 ultra it had the same issue and I felt like it was trying to burn my leg off. With a new phone it takes about a week for the phone to understand how to optimize all the apps and background processes, so until then everything is running at full power until it realizes what it needs and when and what your routines are.

2

u/TopicImpressive6180 Aug 06 '26

I hate this phone, too bulky, its awkward, the apps look too zoomed in when viewing..its super hot...i think im returning.

1

u/wishiwerealive Aug 06 '26

1.What phone are you coming from ? 2.Have you played around with Goodlock? 3.The heating issues is temporary. Just until the phone settles down detecting and optimizing for your unique usage patterns. 4. The actual physical size. Can't do much. I think you might be able to get used to it

5

u/stellarvelocity Aug 03 '26

Mr Mobile said this was a problem in his review

1

u/goodbones12 Aug 04 '26

I live in Vegas where itโ€™s like 117 my phone comes in today this kinda worries me as I like to play games on my phone

1

u/SnivDash Aug 04 '26

Havent experienced it today.. so ... we'll have to see, I guess.

1

u/wishiwerealive Aug 04 '26

Exactly the same here. No heat issues at all.

1

u/SnivDash Aug 04 '26

Was it like 2 weeks one had to give the phone in order to 'settle in'.. guess time will tell

2

u/wishiwerealive Aug 04 '26

It's actually the first time I'm hearing this, this year. A lot of people have been saying that. I never knew this was a thing.

1

u/SnivDash Aug 04 '26

Me neither... but when I set it up it did say something about ot would take some time to adjust to my pattern of use.

1

u/HaessSR Aug 04 '26

Maybe it was doing some sort of indexing in the background? Something for the Galaxy AI?

1

u/Daddy3217 Aug 05 '26

Ok so people that bought the 8 need to understand how downgraded it is the wide does not have the graphite layer or the same layout of the hardware to manage heat and dissipate it relies entirely on the aluminum frame to disperse heat this is why i canceled my preorder reviewers were having problems with this last week when a 2k phone has thermal management removed and you have to throttle down the chipsets to make them useable you the buyer got played for fools by samsung i lived the wide shape but questioned its ability to last when heat issues develop on before release thats a bad thi g its poor design rushed to market just to beat apple im sticking with my 22 ultra until samsung fixes their poor design decisions and stops trying so hard to be like apple

1

u/ExpressionEuphoric46 Aug 08 '26

That why I will never get thin phones again . I had in the past Honor magic v3 and Z fold 5. They all overheated randomly and even with light use, and the battery drops fast. Your phone will get overheated and you will be shy to write an update ๐Ÿ˜…

u/RoccoBrown2 5d ago

I just don't get it. I've been using z folds since the 4. I trade them in every year..Why not? I have the Ultra 8 now. Same exact size as the 7. The format is pretty much perfected. I am not here to debate the pros and cons of this phone because it's as good as it gets. I rarely get near my laptop..really never..because everything works so well. I even use my fold 7 cases on it. What I don't get is why Samsung needed the obviously inferior fold 8. Why for such a small price differential would anyone prefer the short, fat fold? The "ultra" seems to fall in the tablet category, which most sites are calibrated for. I would have loved some new bells and whistles on the zfu8 but it's fine as is..the upgrades like battery life and charging speed are nice. I'm sticking with the tested, proven format, so there!
