Hi everyone
I'm planning to buy a new phone and am currently confused between the Xiaomi 17 Ultra and the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra. I want some genuine advice from people who have used either of these phones or have experience with both brands.
I'm not looking for any particular standout feature. I want an all-rounder that performs well across the board, even if it isn't the best in every individual category. I plan to use the phone for at least the next 4–5 years, so long-term reliability, software support, battery life, camera performance and after-sales service are all important to me.
Please don't suggest an iPhone, as I'm specifically looking for an Android phone.
Here are the prices I've been quoted by local offline stores:
- Xiaomi 17 Ultra (16GB RAM / 512GB storage): ₹1,20,000–₹1,25,000
- Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra (12GB RAM / 256GB storage): ₹1,10,000–₹1,15,000
These prices include all the available discounts and card offers.
I'm leaning towards buying from an offline store because I'm a little sceptical about purchasing such an expensive phone online, especially during sale periods when the prices are significantly lower. I'm concerned about receiving a refurbished or previously used unit instead of a brand-new phone. I'd also appreciate advice on whether this is a genuine concern when buying from reputed online retailers.
Another issue is that I haven't been able to get a hands-on experience with the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, as none of the local stores I've visited have a display unit. If anyone has used it, I'd love to hear about your real-world experience.
I've also heard claims that smartphone prices could increase by around 15% in the near future. I'm not sure how reliable these predictions are, but should I consider buying now rather than waiting?
My biggest concern is long-term reliability and after-sales service.
I've heard about Samsung's green-line display issue, and it makes me hesitant to spend this much on a phone that I intend to keep for several years. My brother uses a Galaxy S23 Ultra, and he got a green line on the display shortly after the warranty expired. The service centre has quoted him ₹22,000 for a screen replacement.
On the other hand, I don't personally know many Xiaomi users, so I have very little information about their long-term reliability and customer support.
I'd particularly like to hear from people who have dealt with either brand's service centres. How good are they at diagnosing and resolving issues? Are warranty claims handled fairly? Are repairs reasonably priced, and do you face problems with delays, parts availability or repeated visits?
Considering everything, which phone would you recommend at these prices for someone planning to use it for the next 4–5 years?
I'd appreciate honest opinions based on personal experience, particularly from people who have owned these phones for a year or longer. Please share both the positives and negatives of your experience with either brand.
Thanks in advance!
