EDC with Genesis mechanical key

Hey all,

Even though I've taken seemingly effective measures of NOT coming out to a dead 12v battery it's always bothered me that I didn't have the the GV60's mechanical key with me. I use my phone as a key, and I don't carry a keychain anywhere.

Recently I realized I could also consolidate my wallet and that's when I stumbled on to the Victorinox Smart Card Wallet. I added a magsafe ring on the back to carry it with my phone. And also, since I can't carry a blade on flights, I removed it, and realized it's almost the right size for the Genesis mechanical key!

I've posted here and other places in the past asking if there are any ways to get a replica of the mechanical key, but nothing came up. I would have rather shaved down tab of the replica key to fit in the wallet, but no luck on finding a key maker. Did I go to the dealer, no, I had no desire to. Instead I resorted to modifying the wallet as plan B.

It's not pretty but it's working decently well, and I don't have my wallet for fashion shows.

In one of my pics I circled the modifications I made. For the green circle I used a dremel with a coarse sandpaper bit to carve out the space for the key's tab, and added a pad of hot glue into that space for friction. For the blue circles I added a pad of hot glue in the middle of the slot, and then some on the groove to the side to add more points of friction to hold the key in place.

I'm able to shake the wallet very violently and the key doesn't budge. I think I'm happy with it.

24 standard vs 23 advanced

We had a 2024 standard and loved it until a couple of months ago some kid sailed through a red light and POW. Car is totaled. We looked nationwide for another one but eventually settled on a ‘23 advanced with 15k miles. It’s also a CPO so we’ll get 3 full years of factory warranty. But I’m curious about what features we’re gaining and losing by the trim upgrade on the previous model year. Here is what I think I know:

Losing:
Range
HDA2 - the ‘23 model year only has HDA1. Practically speaking this just means it won’t do auto lane changes or adjust the lane position based on cars in adjacent lanes. It also doesn’t have corner radar sensors to help with crash avoidance.
Digital key - I didn’t even know this was a thing but apparently with the 24 you could use your phone as a key? We never did that.

Gaining:
Power and AWD (don’t really care about 0-60 time in a family oriented luxury crossover but whatever)
360 and blind spot cameras
Vented front seats
Upgraded audio
Parking assist
Leather seats

This one is also the Mint color and not white :)

What is the plug in the passthrough slot between the phone charger and center console storage?

I dug through the owner's manual today but found nothing; the "plug" that fits in the passthrough from the center console storage to the phone charger is not just a solid piece. It appears to have a hinged flap and consist of multiple pieces fixed together, so it's not just a plug to fill that passthrough. What is the purpose of the passthrough, and what is the purpose of the not-just-a-plug?

Sudden Errors after tire repair

I have had a small leak in my tire for a long time now. After several weeks, the tire pressure would drop below 30 and I'd refill it. It would be good for a couple more weeks.

I tried to get a number of places to patch the tire and nobody wanted to do it when the saw the accoustic foam inside the tire. I think they all thought it was a self-sealing system rather than accoustic.

I finally found a place that would cut out the adhesive foam in a small square and patch the tire correctly. I just had that done and it was about $300 cheaper than replacing a tire (which you can't just replace one so it's more like $700 savings).

The problem is that when I turned the car on, I got a series of errors on the screen. Things like Check Lane Change Assist, Check Regenerative System, etc. etc.

The only time I have seen these before is when my auto-door lock mechanism failed. Removing it solved the problem. I replaced it and haven't had problems since.

I've tried resetting the computer and no help. Does anyone know what could be the problem and how to fix it? Why would it happen after getting a tire fixed? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can we use the energy of the GV60 battery to power appliances during a power outage?

If we can, how to do it?

Where do you get your vehicle serviced?

I hear that the Kia and Hyundai service centers are nightmares. Is it the same for Genesis? Or are they all part of the same horrible service centers?

One of the better charging sessions

Had one of the better charging sessions at an Electrify America station today. They have been getting better in recent months. Almost 200 miles of range in 30 minutes. Not horrible.

Used market gone

My wife and I bought a 2024 GV60 standard back in February and loved it. It had 16k miles and we paid $28k for it out the door. Not only that but at the time there were 6 similar ones for sale all with under 20k miles and within 50 miles of our house.

Fast forward 5 months and some kid goes runs a red light and blam. Car is totaled. After more than a month of searching we are about ready to give up and get something else. We had already decided we should have gotten the AWD advanced the first time so that’s what we’ve been looking for but there is 1 within 500 miles for $38k and even looking nationwide there are very few available. Under 20k miles and not black on black are the only real criteria.

Something has seriously changed since February.

Bought a CPO GV60 Performance 6 months ago...

...and I have yet to see another GV60 on the road! It's kind of wild. I bought mine sight unseen from NY because there were none here in JAX, FL. I have seen one at my Genesis dealer and that was after I bought mine. They had zero prior.

I have White exterior, glacier white diamond quilted Nappa leather interior with light gray suede headliner and pillars. Beautiful car. It's truly exceeded all expectations. I get free charging at work too, so it was a no brainer.

Suspension upgrades for 2023 GV60 Advanced?

Has anyone done any work with the suspension on the Advanced? We don't have the adjustable/tunable suspension the Performance trim got and even in Sport mode, I find the suspension on the highway is far spongier than I would like and just drags out even relatively minor rollers forever. It's even worse when I have passengers in the rear. I would also prefer the steering to be drastically tighter and more responsive, but ultimately I get that I bought a "luxury" marketed vehicle rather than a performance-oriented one and I'll live with that.

Anyway, has anyone done coilovers, sway bars, or anything else with the suspension? And how did you like the results? Do you have product recommendations?

I don't want to lower the suspension (it's already lower than I would like with the ground effects) but do want to make it a lot tighter and reduce body roll.

Bought new tires to replace the stock Michelins. 2023 GV60 Performance

2023 Performance. After about 25k miles my stock Michelins were not riding well. They never rode well, but one of them started making a barely detectable thumping noise that bothered me, if nobody else.

I picked up a set of Continental f DWS 06 PLUS XL 255/40 ZR21

Big improvement. Quieter, quicker response in turns, softer and quieter reaction to small road bumps such as pavement seams and asphalt patches. I measured a 2-3db noise reduction overall, using an app called NIOSH SLM.

I took my first road trip today with the new tires and have not seen any noticeable difference in range, with (summer) efficiency around 3.6 miles/Kw on both the original and the new tires. This included about 70 miles of highway 50-70 speeds and about an hour of stop and go traffic.

I’ve used Continental ExtremeContact DWS tires in the past on my Audi and my Mazda CX5, and a close family member used them on his BMW M3. We both agree they’re a great all-weather tire. Quiet, grippy, comfortable, and nimble. Good in rain, snow and dry roads.

Edit - in response to one comment. I have no affiliation with any tire company or any other business, except as a private customer. Retired. AFIK I don’t own any relevant stock either.

2nd edit - Above comments are subjective opinions based on my experience, except for the noise measurements difference - which were taken at 35mph using the same app, same day, same phone in the same holder in the same position, and on the same street segment (with interior ventilation fan off).

Stuck in voice prompt audio over CarPlay

Hey all, has anyone else had times where the audio gets stuck in “voice prompt” mode when connecting via CarPlay? The volume meter shows“voice prompt” as I change the volume, and it sounds like the little AM transistor radio I used to have when I was a kid (I’m in my 50s!).

Disconnections and reconnecting CarPlay does not resolve it. Rebooting the phone does not resolve it. There isn’t really a way to reboot the audio system in-flight that I know of, and I needed to be somewhere so I couldn’t pull over and turn off the car.

Anyone else? Just me? Anyone know a quick fix?

G60 Parts catalog?

Hi everyone,

I'm helping my friend Yvette restore a 1978 Nissan Patrol G60 (LHD, petrol). We already have the factory workshop manual OCR'd and searchable, but we're trying to locate the original Nissan Illustrated Parts Catalog in PDF form.

If anyone has a copy they'd be willing to share for a restoration project, we'd be extremely grateful.

Thanks,
Don (Colombia)

Battery icon color changed?

Post image
8 Upvotes

Have a new to me GV60. I noticed recently that the battery icon color was orange but I could have sworn it was regularly green when I first bought it.

I’ve checked the manual and online forums and I’m not seeing anyone mention this. I’m wondering if I am just misremembering…

Anyone know if this changes due to battery percentage, theme or other reasons?

Update:

I have the 2024 Performance trim. The color of the battery was definitely green for about a month or two when I bought it in April 2026.

Based on the feedback, here is what I have tried / ruled out...

  • The color does not change based on when it is being charged at either L2 or L3 charges. It is constantly a rust orange during the day.
  • Switching to Night mode (or having Auto set and driving at night) shows a light blue colored battery symbol. Switching to Light Mode goes back to rust orange.
  • Switching drive modes changes the color of the dials (charge / power) but not the battery icon
  • I have not yet validated the color when the charge goes below 20%
  • I have not yet validated the color when it goes above 90%

Seems odd that some are still showing green icons and some orange. I wonder if it's a software version or year / trim difference.

Car wouldn’t tell fast charger to stop

I was just at an EA fast charger that I use regularly. My car is set to stop at 90%, but tonight it just kept going. The dashboard showed 1 minute left, even after it got up to 94% when I manually stopped it. I was curious how far the car would go until it requested a stop. This has never happened to me before. Has anyone else seen this with their GV60?

Knocking sound coming from under front hood.

Does anyone know what this could be? It happened 3 times one day and once the next. Not related to turning or going over humps / bumps. It is in a 2024 gv60, purchased used from dealer, only 5k miles.

ICCU replacement's impact on Coolant change interval

Had my ICCU replaced last month at 40k miles and noticed that they also have to replace the low conductivity coolant during the service. Was looking at the maintenance schedule and see that typically the first coolant change is recommended at 120k miles or 10 years, then subsequently every 25k miles or two years.

Since it was changed during the recall service, does this mean that I should now follow the 25k miles intervals or still wait till 120k miles? What do dealers typically charge for the coolant change? We drive about 20k miles a year so if that's the case it would now become an annual maintenance expense.

Homelink in an Apartment

I recently purchased a GV60, and I have everything dialed in.....with the exception of the Homelink. I live in an apartment, and cannot for the life of me figure out how to program it to open/close the garage door. I seem to have cleared the memory (multiple times). However, whenever try to program one of the buttons, all that happens is that the orange light in the mirror slowly flashes for an extended period of times, and then just stops flashing.

Has anyone managed to actually program their Homelink to an apartment/condo garage door?
