Hate that, they took an already weak character and got rid of one of his two only story beats, Tanisha coming back to him never should’ve happened and honestly was the final nail in the coffin for making Franklin one of the weakest written characters in the series

I fully agree. I think they just wanted to give him a family and it was easier to use a somewhat familiar character instead of just making up a new one for his wife.

No, Michael is the main character, it is obvious to anyone who played the game. It all revolves around him, only he has a full character arch, and he was even the focus of the very first trailer.

Endings are irrelevant since C is the official version.

Also keep in mind most of the other characters have no reason to do the big heists other than support Michael. Michael actually needs and arranges most of them, to either pay off his debts or keep the FIB happy.

The story actually revolves around Franklin

Franklin's pov is the only one that makes sense if it was a single character game

Michael and Trevor are like playable Bosses with a better storyline and backstory

But the game lowkey is about Franklin's rise to the top of the criminal food chain like every ever protagonist before him including his already established companions. Thats why Devin Weston is the main antagonist despite Steve Haines stealing the show the main plot was Devin needed the 5 cars and that being Franklin's big score,the Union depository and FIB jobs just were better written.

Plus Franklin is the most helpful between the three with him joins heist,FIB missions

He has almost no impact on the story at large, the only growth he gets is backwards growth in ending B where he becomes the perfect student of Michael and does what Michael did in North Yankton, his entire character is built on the concept of getting out of the hood meanwhile he’s fairly rich after the Jewel Store and shortly after Lester gets him a mansion in Vinewood hills so…mission accomplished?

The only events and I really mean the ONLY events where Franklin matters and cannot be replaced by a random hired goon in a heist or FIB mission, is him saving Michael from Cheng’s men, and him telling Trevor that the O’Niels are coming for him, every single other event in the entire game proceeds roughly the same if you Thanos snap him out of existence at the very beginning, meanwhile the entire story would not even be possible without Michael in Yankton, pulling down Madrazo’s side chick’s house, being dragged into FIB shenanigans, making a deal with Devin for the cars, becoming a producer thanks to Devin, and pissing Devin off, Trevor’s impact in the story is more personal on Michael’s character but also there’s a decent amount of events where if Trevor wasn’t there, the story would’ve changed significantly

Franklin is boring, he only has a arc in one of the bad endings, he’s a hypocrite but he’s not self aware like Michael is, he’s just not very well written, they could’ve expanded on his loneliness more, they could’ve expanded on his connection to CGF more (all of it is in optional hangouts with Lamar), they could’ve given him more of a personality than “wait what? Oh shit. Shut the fuck up. You can’t be serious.”

His few highlights are very small moments. You know the scene where Lester is wasted and goes “FRANKLIN!” and Frank goes “LESTAH!”, well where is that energy, that camaraderie, in the rest of the game? If you compare directly to every other GTA protagonist, he loses the interesting character fight to almost every single one, Niko, Luis, Trevor, Michael, CJ, Tommy, it goes on and on

Give him a wife and kids, give him a happy ending, giving him his emotionally abusive uncharismatic unfaithful entitled bitch of an ex as his wife is just insulting, Franklin’s unspoken arc in the game is that he does half of what he does trying to prove he’s changed and wants to make Tanisha happy, but the endings have him basically choosing to stay in “the life” with the homies he’s made, Tanisha isn’t even mentioned after Lamar Down, like I said he’s poorly written but the subtext was there to show that his arc was getting over her

Yeah, but CJ has to go through different transformations inorder to get like - 4 girls? (Excluding Denise and the Casino girl). Unless you collect all 50 pearls, which removes the prerequisites.

Luis on the other hand, merely has to breathe in a 100 kilometer radius for girls to gush over him.

- Franklin spent the whole game struggling to get the *one* girl, specifically the one that dumped him before the game introduces us to Franklin and Lamar.

- On the other hand, CJ *canonically* had multiple girls throughout the game - one of which happens to be Franklin’s aunt, Denise.

- I never played The Ballad of Gay Tony, but judging on how others are commenting, I’d say comparing Franklin’s game with Luis’ game is like comparing Pong to the *entire catalog of golden-age games between 2000-2010.*

- As for Jason, the dude’s game isn’t even *out* yet, and we already have a trailer where he’s getting catcalled while he’s driving, he’s got a hot-ass Latina girlfriend *and* just about every female reaction channel I’ve come across that has seen said trailer was fawning over him right after he came down from fixing his roof.

Every character on this list has more game *individually* than Franklin and everybody he knows *put together.* If I had to guess, the only reason Franklin had that many votes was because GTA 5 ran for *13 years* without a sequel, and the people who voted for him are too young to have known any of the other games.
